The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

Thanks @mathanxiety

Loads more stunning spaces added since I last looked - I'm loving all the reading nooks/shelves of books and other treasures, garden views (particularly @Ruthietuthie's beautiful magnolia), @Rattysparklebum's gorgeous Vietnamese lantern, @Lavenderandbrown's fantastic French bottle drying rack and @Silkierabbit's pretty wardrobe (and cat!).

Because @Kitsmummy asked, I'm adding a few additional pics of our home (studiously avoiding anything remotely building-site - which there's still lots of - connected!). The kitchen is somewhere else we're proud of as it involved loads of work relocating it from a dark space at the back and removing walls/chimney breast. I particularly love my bright red range, retro-style woodburner and lovely Liberty wallpaper on the remaining chimney breast.

Also, the dining end of the living room (this was formerly the kitchen) with panelling added by DH and the fireplace we got at auction as well as the amazing Voysey design wallpaper from the US. The wonderful Art Nouveau bookcase (also found at auction) houses my prized collection of books on Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts Movement and the Pre-Raphaelites ❤

LibertyLily that is gorgeous. Where are your lampshades from please, I love them!

LibertyLily · 14/05/2023 11:59

And finally - some of our taxidermy butterflies etc in the guest bedroom, more living room including the antique Persian rug (a serendipitous ebay find because of its unusual colours) and the garden, which when we purchased the house five years ago, was an unloved space filled with nothing more than trees and weeds (still loads to do!)....

Thank you! They are from Curiouser & Curiouser.

I pretty much dislike everything about our house but having my collection of vintage cameras dotted around the place (this is just a few of them) makes me very happy.

@LibertyLily I love your kitchen-especially the colour behind the cooker.

Silkierabbit · 14/05/2023 12:32

Thanks Liberty You have a wonderful house, I especially love the kitchen.

Spare room. Was awful with dog wee stained carpets. Put in new fireplace and floorboards and bookshelves in the alcoves. I’m sitting on the bed reading now as it gets fab evening sun.

Love your painting/art - where did you source?

Chatillon · 14/05/2023 13:10

Does anyone have names for their rooms?

We have Northern Light, Holkham, Ariel, Wind & Leaves, Oak, Misteltoe and The Magic Window. We can never seem to rename the Kitchen. Stuck on that one.

Amazing home! What are the copper pots like to cook in, I love the aesthetic and how yours looked loved and used BUT do they 'work'?

This will massively out me to anyone who knows me, but we have the Phoenix Room...so named because when we moved in we had to paint over the enormous bright red and yellow eagle/mythical bird that covered one entire wall of the room 😂

SqueakyDinosaur · 14/05/2023 14:11

Corner of the bedroom. It gets morning sun and I like to sit with a cup of tea and my Kindle.

Did you take a photo? Why didn't you keep it, sounds fun! Guess depends on what it looked like! :)

MummyJ12 · 14/05/2023 10:13

It’s such a beautiful colour and a beautiful room. My guess would be slaked lime deep but could also be French Grey. I’m such a saddo with paint charts 😂

@MummyJ12

Yes! French Grey, I remember the name now. The thing is... we're clearing out the garage so I can't find the sample pot from FG anymore, I've only got the Valspar big tin, I should've wrriten on it!

kokeshidolls · 14/05/2023 15:22

People should really be more careful posting such outing details of where they live on the internet 😳

Chatillon · 14/05/2023 15:25

Maybe posters are fully aware that someone will identify them from their homes and link to previous posts. Maybe it doesn’t matter if they were outed. Maybe there are no consequences. We all have agency.

I’ve name changed. If anyone recognises my house, they already know me. They won’t see my other posts etc. It’s not giving away any secrets.

On the other side of the building was a hideous extension, built by a PO in c1999. The roof was a mix of patchwork polycarbonate and tarps.

Last year we finally got round to transforming it. First pic is from when we viewed the house. Second is today...all our own work which makes me so proud of my talented DH!

This one of you @LibertyLily striding with purpose around your new home (second or third visit before you exchanged?) is my favourite picture on this thread.

I get the impression your mind is working overtime, with its own energy and pace, the plane is hurtling down the runway and it can only do one thing now. I sense the photographer knew that too and took that shot before you continued any further. If you hadn’t already decided to buy the property before then, this was the moment you did.

I escaped an abusive relationship last year and when I moved into my rented house I had nothing, now I've got a few bits and pieces from IKEA, including this bed, but everything else I have including this bedding, the table lamps, side tables and cushions were second hand and donated by my lovely sister and niece, this might just look like an ordinary bed to you but I love the colours and the look and it's become my special 'haven' safe from the anguish I felt for so long.

That is so lovely! Having a safe space after being unsafe in your own home must be the greatest feeling and I'm really happy for you.

It was absolutely awful, looked like a giant football club symbol, 5 metres wide 😝

Although it was at least colourful, unlike the rest of the house which was entirely grey, silver or black...

MidlifeWhatNow · 14/05/2023 16:15

Love that wallpaper @Swansandcustard
