The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

Of course it goes without saying that @MintyCedric and @shouldntbeonhereagain have upped their games considerably with the addition of Cats in the Corners of Loveliness Grin

What a lovely thread and so many super spaces 😄

A few pics of my home that make me happy. I like injecting colour (with a neutral base), for me it’s the best way to decorate and reflects my personality.

My French bottle drying rack. It’s unusual to see this size. I saw it in May but didn’t purchase it until December but it was still waiting for me and I bartered a better price

Such a lovely thread. I need to do some decluttering as I don’t think I have a fav spot yet

This part of my front garden which was just pebbles and half dead plants when I moved in a few years ago.

I would say that I have two favourite places, where I can relax and look over our lake.
The first one is our roof terrace which leads out from our bedroom, and the other is the guest bedroom bath which overlooks the lake too. My sanctuary 💗

I wish I had thought to do a roof terrace like this. A couple of years later I realised I’d missed a trick and yours is amazing!

These are my favourites. I love the multicoloured furniture, the dining table and the mirror. The other is of our landing. I love the reclaimed desk and matching yellow cabinet we got for free years ago from dh’s work as well as the light on the lhs of the photo. It’s massive.

There is one interior wall facing west which catches the setting sun over two weeks of September. The light casts shadows from the roses and rosehips outside and the branches of a beech tree and as the sun moves these shadow climb and fall. Overlaid with this is the shadow of a low chandelier which captures the light and spins it off in to colour up the shadows and bring them to life. It only happens at this time of year when the sun is about 10-15 degrees above the horizon. Each evening lasts just 25 minutes and then it is gone. Up the wall climbs the roselight and then it fades. Just silence. For 50 weeks of the year this bare wall is sleeping.

@Chatillon, what gorgeous writing, I mean it’s up there with the best of the best. Please tell us you share your excellent gift for writing with the world and not just here on mn.

I love every picture and every post on this uplifting thread. It’s a break from the things going on around us. I can see the beauty of every person on this thread and it gives me hope and good vibes. Op, your unique idea and title would make a lovely coffee table book.

@TwilightSkies wayfair, it was really reasonable from what I remember

Silkierabbit · 14/05/2023 06:02

Thanks marapournumber4 You have done excellent work on that garden.

I loved the cherry blossom light 🌸 but if we got one Floof would knock it over. 🙀

We have a large house and have done quite a few renovations in the last four years.

I'm really pleased with the laundry/bathroom renovation and the kitchen. We put a huge window in the kitchen which looks into a nature reserve and it's lovely to have a cuppa in the morning with the sun coming in.

Lovely thread 😍

I used to take great pride in my house, but having two pre-schoolers my favourite bits tend to be out of the windows these days! We have no spectacular view, but we do have a pleasant outlook and a third storey where I love watching the changing seasons and skies. It feels like the view is a bit different every single day and it brings me so much happiness.

Oh . That is actually my fave part of my house too. We are semi-rural so we get flocks of birds, fog so thick you can't see. Animals everywhere. The view is the best part.

However I am also really happy with my new kitchen table, which I put together the other day while the DC were out of the house! We have a living room/diner and the kitchen is only small, but I've wanted a proper table in there for a while. This one was just the job!

Gorgeous

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 14/05/2023 07:24

@Jericha - love the colour of your walls… can you remember what paint colour you used?

Rattysparklebum · 14/05/2023 07:44

This is my thinking and planning spot, the lampshade is from a trip to Vietnam, my 50th birthday present to myself.

Might be the most optimistic thread ever! So many lovely nooks, furniture, mirrors, gardens.

@Ruthietuthie that blossom is to die for, just stunning 😍😍

@Roussette love your wall colour!! Can you tell me what it is please??

Roussette · 14/05/2023 08:43

@Proudofitbabe

It's a specially mixed Valspar (B&Q) one, custom made. I took along a Little Greene sample and they copied it... and now you're going to ask what LG colour, and I can't find it!
