Do I want a Monday or Tuesday off?

having had a difficult year with lots of things, I have just gone down to working four days a week. I have been offered a Monday or Tuesday off. Which do I choose?
children are older so don’t need to worry about childcare.
obviously a three day weekend would be great, but so might splitting up the week a bit?
it is in a school so will only affect one bank holiday.
I do sport/exercise so having a Tuesday off means that it’s easier to split up workouts away from the weekend?

wwyd?

Tuesday

Tuesday, or you’ll miss out on bank holidays. But saying that, not having to work Mondays is lovely! Sorry, I realise that’s not much help.

LittleBearPad · 11/05/2023 19:38

See how your employer deals with bank holidays.

DonkeyFacedCunt · 11/05/2023 19:39

but it will only affect one bank holiday a year, so I don’t think it’s worth doing Tuesday just for that…

Tuesday - it gives more consistency at work I find.

SaveMeFromForearms · 11/05/2023 19:39

Tuesday! I always felt more on top of things if I worked a Monday, plus it was nice knowing I was in for one day then off again.

Spottysausagedog1 · 11/05/2023 19:39

Monday every time!

JamSandle · 11/05/2023 19:39

Monday

DonkeyFacedCunt · 11/05/2023 19:39

@Bunce1 why Tuesday?

Monday

JBOH2020 · 11/05/2023 19:40

I dropped a Monday and have no regrets. I'd rather get my 4 days of work done in a row. In regards to bank holidays, I get extra allowance on top of my annual leave to account for a % of the bank holiday Mondays I lose out on.

Cupoftea80 · 11/05/2023 19:41

There are pros and cons! I used to have a Monday off and the best thing was not getting that Sunday night back to school feeling, I could properly enjoy my whole weekend.

Having said that, I now have Wednesdays off and I love having a break mid-week!

Also it’s not just the bank holidays, in schools inset days etc tend to be on a Monday so you would either miss them or feel like you have to go in- would they give you a day off in lieu? Can you check your school calendar for next year and see?

Pinkmagic1 · 11/05/2023 19:42

Monday definitely. Your bank holiday entitlement will be added to your holiday pro rata, so you can take them when you wish, not when is dictated to you.

sunsunpleasecomeout · 11/05/2023 19:43

If I didn't have to worry about bank holidays, I would choose Tuesday as day off

Allschoolsareartschools · 11/05/2023 19:44

Monday. You'll be able to have term time weekends away while working in a school & save a fortune.

Gizlotsmum · 11/05/2023 19:45

If it can only be Monday or Tuesday I think I’d take Monday. Going in for 1 day ( assuming you work Mon-Fri) I would find more distributive than working 4 days straight

Gizlotsmum · 11/05/2023 19:46

Disruptive not what ever my auto correct did in my last post

AppleKatie · 11/05/2023 19:46

The inset days is a good point. Usually you would be required to attend 90% of them (on a 0.9 contract). Whatever day of the week they fall on- that could be a few Mondays next year + the bank holiday.

Agree with this

TheUsualChaos · 11/05/2023 19:46

Mondays! Bank holidays should be added to your leave entitlement so it feels like you get loads of time off. Long weekends as standard.

Curlysusie · 11/05/2023 19:47

Monday for sure

OrigamiOwls · 11/05/2023 20:00

Monday for me - 3 day weekend.

blondieminx · 11/05/2023 20:01

Monday. It’s a really quiet day for running errands etc.

Londontomadrid · 11/05/2023 20:03

Definitely Mondays off. So I can choose when I want to take my AL and not be forced to use it for BHs but also so I don't have to pay childcare for the days the nursery is closed on BHs, I'm already at home with DC anyway.

bluebird3 · 11/05/2023 20:03

I'd choose to work Monday and have Tuesday off. I've worked part time for years and don't like having Mondays off. You miss out on plans for the week. Might not seem important but I always feel on the back foot coming in on a tuesday. I also find it hard to miss out on the 'how was your weekend?' chat. Seems silly but everyone has already done that by Tuesday and it feels less sociable with my colleagues now.
