Premium Bonds, what is the most you have ever won?

Interested in the reality of winning a large sum.

I've had bonds for donkeys years but the most on a single bond is £500, last year

Considering we have £80k in there, not much!!!!!! I think he most I’ve won is £150 and the most DP has won was £175.

Quebeccles · 08/05/2023 10:38

DH won 10k about 20 years ago, nothing approaching that since. He won £200 this month and I won £125.

I’ve never had anything more than £200 on a 25k holding.

Roseyleaf · 08/05/2023 10:40

I hold almost £50k and my biggest prize has been £250. That was three months ago, nothing since then.

I hadn't thought of that- maybe keep everything in their until they are 18- withdraw it all and split it? They are twins so that makes it easier.

I know I over think, but even with adult children, I wouldn't want to have set up a situation where once becomes very rich and the other doesn't!

Staggersaurus · 08/05/2023 10:43

My mil won £25k about 10 years ago. She very kindly shared it with her children. The delight it gave her to do this was brilliant, she’s never had much money to spare and it seemed like being able to share it was better than the actual winning for her.

It’s become much harder to win a lot. I’ve the max amount of bonds (£50k I think) and in five years have never won more than £75 in one go. On average I win a total of £150-200 in a year.

Don’t expect to win big - when interests rate are higher then fixed rate ISAs can give a better return (and even savings bonds too despite the tax).

My PBs are the first thing to go when/if rates pick up. I wouldn’t recommend them tbh.

What do you mean by harder to win a lot?

As interest rates have gone up it's more likely that each individual bond will win something

It's not easy or hard, it's a random draw

Obviously you have certainly with a fixed rate savings product but the two things aren't meant to be comparable

Carpediem15 · 08/05/2023 17:09

I won £1.000. a few years ago but have met someone who won the Million.

dameofdilemma · 09/05/2023 19:33

Visions - in 2020 there was a significant drop in the NSI prize fund and both the odds of of winning and the amounts to be won decreased significantly (there was a lot of negative press around it at the time).

A lot of the examples PP have given of significant wins (eg £5k) are from pre 2020. I’d be interested to see how the wins compare pre and post 2020.

Even though rates are now back up there have probably been fewer winners in 2021-2022.

Lovegossip · 09/05/2023 19:50

I'm in a group of 6 and we won 5k earlier this year

In my own premium bonds, usually just £25 which I reinvest

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 04/06/2023 09:21

I've just won my first ever prize. £50 after nearly 40 years of owning premium bonds!

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/06/2023 09:25

£0

Fandabedodgy · 04/06/2023 09:33

£50

I've had £5k for 12 months.

BluebellBlueballs · 04/06/2023 14:28

Won for the first time today the grand sum of £25! Whohooooo!!

Sewingdufus · 04/06/2023 17:13

£25, £25 and £100 for me this month. Better than usual!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 04/06/2023 17:26

Well I forgot about my £100 I stuck in, 28 years ago.

Found the certificate a few months ago so sent off for change of address.
Got a letter yesterday and it's now £775!

Lots of £50's and £25's on the statement so I'm guessing those are wins Smile

2022NewTimes · 04/06/2023 17:37

Most in one go was £400

NewUserName2023 · 04/06/2023 17:57

I got some bonds as a christening present in the 60s. Winnings to date (despite updatinv my address, ever hopeful) = £0 🙄

Lira715 · 04/06/2023 18:03

I never win on mine .. my dd has £5k and she’s won about 10 times in 2 years nothing huge £25s and £50s but def better than interest she’d get on that small amount I reinvest anything she wins.

eurochick · 04/06/2023 18:09

I've had bonds since I got bought some as child 40 years ago I've added to them over the years and recently won £1250, my biggest ever win.

mrsbyers · 04/06/2023 23:11

£1,000 my biggest single win

PlipPlopChoo · 18/08/2023 07:44

Does anybody have some big prizes to add to this thread? The rates going up should have helped.

Thisisnowmyusername · 18/08/2023 08:16

Zilch. I've had mine for nearly 50 years, but admittedly on about £50 worth.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 18/08/2023 08:37

£100 last month, the most I've ever won in one go. DH won £30 on the National Lottery too :) Go us Grin
