Interested in the reality of winning a large sum.

I've had bonds for donkeys years but the most on a single bond is £500, last year

I think you can look up all the statistical way that premium bonds and the odds on winning

It's literally a mathematical thing, unfortunately no way to game the system other than having more tickets in the hat

It must be better than the lottery

FrogFairy · 03/05/2023 17:50

Yes, NS&I prize checker. I have been using it for the last two years and normally results are available shortly after midnight.
Tried last night and got several error messages, then it change to 1 day until results. I zoomed in to delete my name.

I don't know how the statistics compare but they are two very different things. There will always be winners in a raffle, no way to predict the lottery although theoreticak calculations with assumptions will be possible.

Since they increased the winnings pot, I seem to be averaing about £150 pm, but I've never won more than £200 and I've had some bonds for 30+ years.

No idea why mine is not until tomorrow, well for a few hours I can daydream that it is because I have won a huge prize.

my apologies for not answering the question in the OP, the most I have ever won is £175.

Sewingdufus · 03/05/2023 18:02

App wasn’t working at 6am, just checked before 6pm and it’s £100 as 1 prize this month - that’s the highest prize I’ve ever had but had a bumper month a couple of years ago and got 8 lots of £25!

Frith2013 · 03/05/2023 18:02

£50 this month

Unicorn2022 · 03/05/2023 18:15

I got £325 this month on full holdings. That's the most I've ever won.

Carrieeva · 03/05/2023 18:16

I won £25k when I was a teenager, a while ago now.

My mum had been really unwell too and just got out of hospital after a stroke. When she opened the letter I thought something terrible had arrived, like a letter from hospital as she looked so shocked. Then she read it out and said that was my Nan looking down on us as it was her money she had left me in premium bonds. The timing really does make you think.

Feel like my luck was used up back then, but logically that’s not how it works so I live in hope of another big win :)

OldTinHat · 03/05/2023 18:20

Hmmmmmm, let me calculate...in 51yrs I've won a big fat nothing!

Okki · 03/05/2023 18:22

@frogfairy think there was an issue with the app. I clicked on unclaimed prizesand then back on results. They seemed to reset it for me.

My biggest win was today £100.

Purplemist · 03/05/2023 18:25

The most I have ever won is £575 . Not sure how much I have in holdings but probably around £47k .
This month I won £150, very happy with that.

fussychica · 03/05/2023 18:27

£500 a couple of months ago. Nothing at all this month.

larkstar · 03/05/2023 18:29

£50-£200 about 10 months if the year on holdings of £35k. It's usually 2-4 bonds winning £25-£100. This month equals the most I've ever won...£200.

I have £35k locked in to an Atom account for 1 year that will earn about £1500 so at the moment there's not much difference... But I could not a non winning patch... or win something far bigger. If anything I might take some money out of the premium bonds - say £10k - and put it into Atom if they put the rates up again.

stanleytheflamingo · 03/05/2023 18:51

I've got £1,200 and put £100 in each month – I've had it for 6 months and won nothing... I'm holding out hope for a win sometime soon though, and it's better than buying lottery tickets as the money is still sitting there!

user1471447863 · 03/05/2023 18:51

@larkstar one thing to remember is the premium bonds prizes are tax free whereas that £1500 interest isn't. You'll be taxed £100 if in lower rate tax band and £400 in higher rate, if I've worked it out right.

Parky04 · 03/05/2023 18:55

Won £1000 on on bond a couple of months ago. I do have maximum holding though. Before that it was £100.

user1471447863 · 03/05/2023 18:58

The most I've one in a month is £150 and the biggest individual prize was £100.

MSE has a good page on the probabilities and a calculator (currently not working properly), but the current prise fund gives a 1 in 24000 chance of winning a prize.

DeepfriedPizza · 03/05/2023 19:03

£1000 last January

Mogginsthemog · 03/05/2023 19:06

DH £500, me £50.

Until recently I've only had about £200 , and only ever won twice. Have now put a bit more £ in them.

benfolds5 · 03/05/2023 19:07

I won £500 today (I have £10k of bonds). For years I had £30-45k invested, and never won more than £25. Was v pleased with the £500 today! 😄

FuglyBitch · 03/05/2023 19:10

£200

useitorlose · 03/05/2023 19:15

£275 in total across several bonds, last December.

NuttellaAndPuppyLover · 03/05/2023 19:23

I've only ever won 25 quid or 50 in any given month. I've done a bond for my young dd and added 750 quid into it and a couple of months later she won £10k!!!!
