Do you spend time in your bedroom

I'm decorating my house room by room . I was going to do my room first as I always do everything for the kids before myself. I asked for some ideas and it seems people spend time in their bedroom . I had suggestions like a nice reading corner . A place to enjoy the view. A comfortable place to chill out etc. Then I thought whats the point all I do is sleep in my room . So maybe i should do the kids rooms first .

I had not realised adults spend time in their room other than when they sleep. ?

I only sleep and get ready in my room, however I have 2 dc primary age. When they are teens, occupying themselves more and with friends etc I plan to spend a lot more time in my bedroom. A reading corner being exactly my plan!

LlynTegid · 30/04/2023 14:39

Mine is for sleeping only. Different for large families and for children I am sure.

Passthecake30 · 30/04/2023 15:30

I chill out in mine. My partner has different tastes in tv than me so I watch Netflix on the iPad, read, mooch on my phone etc.

It seems a big thing on MN to spend a lot of time in bedrooms watching tv etc.
Ours is simply for sleeping in although I used fo spend more time in mine as a student!

GOODCAT · 30/04/2023 15:47

No just sleep, change in it and put laundry away. Have a living room, kitchen and spare bedroom which I use for wfh that I spend waking time in. Prefer to be out though.

Nimbostratus100 · 30/04/2023 15:50

what a waste to have a whole room in the house never used except when you are asleep - you dont really need it in that case, do you?

I have my desk in mine, and work here, also watch TV on the laptop, read, etc

Where do you do those things?

Hbh17 · 30/04/2023 15:51

I spend loads of time in my bedroom (aside from sleep). Probably as much or more than any other room in the house.

I only sleep in mine or get ready in it, dry my hair etc. however I have a home office and also a second living room with another tv, or I can read in there, so don’t need to use my bedroom for those things. I imagine if you don’t have any other rooms to do those things in but your bedroom then it needs to be a room for multi tasking.

shivawn · 30/04/2023 15:54

Yeah I like to spend time in my bedroom. My husband will often tell me to go take some time to myself to chill upstairs in the bedroom while he minds our toddler. I like to curl up on the bed with a good book or just scroll through my phone or listen to music. We don't have a tv in the bedroom.

Also why would I not need it. We have a super king size bed in there and our wardrobes and drawers. Where else would I put this stuff?

Motheranddaughter · 30/04/2023 15:55

I chill in mine
After work I go straight to bedroom, change into lounge clothes, take make up off, light a candle ,put some music on and read for an hour then

Piony · 30/04/2023 15:55

I think a TV in a bedroom can be an easy way to give a second "living" room as children grow into teens. We need/use that second space a lot now that the kids are older.

But no to extra furniture. I've never had the space, and anyway I can't imagine a comfier place to read than on my bed.

Confused Sleeping is quite important.

Anyway....yes I often use our bedroom to chill out. We have a superking size bed, sofa and tv in there. It’s a nice space and I feel the most relaxed in there.

I can understand doing all these things in your bedroom if you don't have the space but I would rather not work in my bedroom. We have a home office to work. We watch tv in the living room except before bed when we may watch tv or sleep before bed.

I still need a bedroom as that's where we sleep!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/04/2023 16:24

I only sleep and dress in mine
No TV, tiny flat

Dacadactyl · 30/04/2023 16:32

Aside from when i sleep (or if im ill), on a day to day basis, i spend an absolute maximum of 35 mins in my room. So thats getting ready in morn and taking make up off at end of day.

If im going out and want to pick outfits, then itd be longer but im not out on nights out very often these days.

Id always decorate the kids rooms first because they use their rooms and we dont.

aSofaNearYou · 30/04/2023 16:34

I only sleep in mine. I don't like feeling like I've spent all day and night in the same room, so I prefer to spend my awake time elsewhere.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 30/04/2023 16:36

I do since I did it up a year or 2 ago 😍😍😍

I sit in bed and crochet, work, internet, do my groceries etc. Plus we got a bed with a tv that comes out of it.

I LOVE bed.

Ragwort · 30/04/2023 16:39

Yes, my bedroom is my sanctuary... I love spending time there alone (my DH has his own bedroom Grin). Even though I had the whole house completely to myself today I still spent a quiet hour curled up with a good book on my bed after lunch. I do have a tv in my room but prefer to watch in the living room, but only if I can be on my own ! I am just not very sociable.

wheresmymojo · 30/04/2023 16:46

I chill out in mine on the bed with my phone - Mumsnetting, watching YouTube videos, researching hobbies, reading. I also love a bloody good afternoon nap.

I also tend to spend an hour or two like this after waking up on the weekend unless I have specific morning plans.

(No DC in case it wasn't obvious from the napping)

mondaytosunday · 30/04/2023 16:48

Sleep and get dressed. I do read in bed before I go to sleep, but wouldn't go to read there during the day

WinginItAtDIY · 30/04/2023 16:51

Sleeping only oh and the ironing

TheChosenTwo · 30/04/2023 16:59

I’m in my room right now! Sorting out my makeup drawers and having a bit of a clear out. I often come up here to read or just have some quiet time. We have a telly in here aswell.
My bedroom is my favourite room of the house 😂
we have an office for when I wfh which I’m grateful for otherwise I imagine I’d end up lying down on my breaks!

howaboutchocolate · 30/04/2023 17:09

I only sleep and get ready in my bedroom. It's really small, only big enough for a double bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. And that's a squeeze. I hate lying in bed unless I'm ill or sleeping so it's impossible to just hang out in there.

Fatandfunny · 30/04/2023 17:11

aSofaNearYou · 30/04/2023 16:34

That’s how I feel. I think it’s also bad for sleep hygiene to spend so much time in the one room doing different things. If no option of other rooms though then you have to.

if we sleep on average eight hours a night, and say you’re in it either side an hour a day, so 30 mins in morning and night, getting ready, putting clothes away etc then that’s 9 hours a day in there making it one of the most used rooms in the house, unless you don’t leave the house much.

im really bewildered someone said you don’t need a bedroom if you only sleep in there, it’s literally what it says on the tin, a bed room. A room where you keep your bed. As well as wardrobes, drawers etc . Where else would I keep my bed and wardrobes if I don’t have a bedroom.
