I'm married, have a house and a beautiful baby. But a full matching set of plates/ bowls/ cups and even a tea pot a few days ago made me feel very grown up 😂
Have you had an 'I'm a grown up moment'

(Yes I am bored and just about to make my afternoon coffee at work)

Cleaning the slime from my shower drain, sink, toothbrush holder.

Plankingplanks · 25/04/2023 15:19

I'm 44, successful at work, adult DC own my own house. Never owned a matching set of decent towels and all matching crockery. The day I do, I will feel like I have climbed the ultimate hill of adulthood.

@JustAJokeLikeOnTopGear I put the tooth brush holding into the dishwasher once a week. But shower junk is mank! Worst thing is it's me that's the problem (long hair) so I can't give out!

@Plankingplanks I bought 2 bath towels and 2 hand the same from JYSK does that count.

It's funny at 35 I am very clearly an adult but I don't feel like how I thought adults would feel when I looked at them as a child.

Buying meat from a butchers
Parents evening
Hosting a play date

Doing all the boring shit that no one else wants to do - filling the dishwasher salt thing I’m looking at you.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 25/04/2023 16:05

When I buy flowers, put them in a vase and put them on shelves in the house. It just seems such an...adult thing to do!

travelmad · 25/04/2023 16:06

I had one of those moments today. I'm 37 and today I bought a season train ticket for the first time. It's really random, but it was something in my head that I'd never don. I drive so its not even that big a deal haha - it just now works out cheaper to get the train rather than pay the fuel and parking for work.

Bigpinktrain · 25/04/2023 16:08

Having my own allotment 😌

PauseTheRain · 25/04/2023 16:11

Getting a Costco card. Felt more grown up than getting a mortgage!

whatausername · 25/04/2023 16:14

I never feel like a grown up. Maybe I'm doing it wrong

frozendaisy · 25/04/2023 16:18

When the hospital handed over our first baby and said "you can go home now"

Like WTActualF! No instruction manual or personal maternity nurse for a decade or so!

frozendaisy · 25/04/2023 16:20

On a more general basis thinking "it's a drying day today" for washing on the line

My younger self would be horrified. So I have stopped that and do washing when it's needed. Line dry, great, if not hang in house.

xogossipgirlxo · 25/04/2023 16:20

When I went to doctor without my mum 😂

frozendaisy · 25/04/2023 16:20

Actually another washing one, washing a teddy bear.

mindutopia · 25/04/2023 16:21

The one time in 20 years when I remembered to order heating oil before the oil tank ran dry and we didn't have any heat or hot water. 😂Every house we've ever lived in has been old and dodgy and we've never had a working gauge so are forever just trying to look in the tank with a torch to see if it's low. I miss it/forget every time. Except one. Once I ordered well enough in advance and we didn't run out and have to bathe the kids in water from the kettle. I'm 42. 😂

frozendaisy · 25/04/2023 16:21

Calling school to say "child sick" and they believe you.

PickoftheMix · 25/04/2023 16:22

Na, I have my own career/kids/house and still look for the grown up in a situation and in denial that i'm the grown up young people go and find.

Coffeeandbourbons · 25/04/2023 16:22

House viewings. I try to stride around confidently looking like I know what I’m looking for beyond ‘omg cool kitchen tiles’
I have no idea which way my own garden faces!

frozendaisy · 25/04/2023 16:22

Going from being called mummy to mum.

yoga4meinthemorning · 25/04/2023 16:23

I bought a house with a garden and planted stuff.

I hired decorators rather than DIY.

Having a contract phone rather than PAYG (back in the days)

My own car.

Becoming a mother.

Getting called for jury duty.

Giving someone else a reference.

Going on a plane on my own.

Staying in a hotel on my own.

Cooking a full Xmas dinner for 10.

Staggersaurus · 25/04/2023 16:23

Taking charge of my parents health care has made me feel unpleasantly like a real grown up. Up until then I still felt like I was pretending to be an adult. I still live in hope that a proper grown up will come along shortly and sort things out for me 😬

elizabethsmith · 25/04/2023 16:24

when i turned 18 and legally became an adult

TheExchange · 25/04/2023 16:24

Attending university open days with my DC.

Celebrating silver wedding anniversary.

Simonjt · 25/04/2023 16:25

We found a lone young child on a boys night out, I was the only parent in the group so I was the nominated adult to look after them and phone the police.

When social services decided I was fit to be a parent and my son came home, although I did walk straight round a friends (who isn’t a parent) and ask “wtf do I do with it?”
