I'm married, have a house and a beautiful baby. But a full matching set of plates/ bowls/ cups and even a tea pot a few days ago made me feel very grown up 😂
Have you had an 'I'm a grown up moment'

(Yes I am bored and just about to make my afternoon coffee at work)

Seeing the number 40 on a birthday card. Finally hit me.

Vivalaive · 25/04/2023 20:37

Becoming a mum! Honestly if I think about it too hard I can freak myself out that I am actually responsible for my dc! Also transferring a large chunk of my monthly income into our bills account each month and crying on the inside of all the things younger me would blow it on!

Gindrinker43 · 25/04/2023 20:43

Despite the house, business, 2DC and a professional job, first time I felt like a grown up was when I bought my first brand new sofa.

I recently reported a pothole to my local council. Downloaded the app and everything.

😂

I once had to report a dead fox to my local council so they could come and remove it from the pavement near my house. That made me feel like an adult and also very mundane.

Last month, I felt like a proper grown up when I put air in my tyres for the first ever. My Dad usually does it for me and he was on holiday. I'm 47.

Going to vote always makes me feel like an adult too!

weegiemum · 25/04/2023 21:09

Buying new towels.

I'm 52, got married at 24 and we were given SO MANY TOWELS that it took me until last year to buy any.

It was a surreal experience, and much more than buying a house or having 3 babies weirdly.

I just supposed it was something I'd never need to do!

@Simonjt did you adopt the child you found on the night out or are they separate incidents? Intrigued by your story!

Seperate incidents! I should have clarified.

13Bastards · 25/04/2023 21:11

Getting divorced and buying a house on my own. Felt so much more adult than getting married!

I am so glad I found this! I was just puzzling over the whole thing!!

I told off four high school kids who were trying to cross a busy road on their way to school with one of their mates in a shopping trolley. There was an incline that would have meant the trolley going straight into oncoming traffic if they’d let go accidentally.

I told them I knew their behaviour was ridiculous, said I’d report them to the head and to get out right now and give me the trolley.

They did. And didn’t even backchat me.

I felt proper grown up 😂😂

GoShorty · 25/04/2023 21:17

When I was told my son (age 10) had cancer. He’s fine now thankfully but it was a real moment of having to be the adult and stay strong for him. There was absolutely no option to crumble in a corner as he needed me to be strong.

On a lighter note, I feel all grown up every time I pick up my car keys and drive my very own car 😂😂

GlumyGloomer · 25/04/2023 21:25

Reading the safety card for Bromine at work. It said something like 'must only be handled by a trained and competent person', and I thought "bloody hell, that's me!"

embolass · 25/04/2023 21:28

Noticing the grass needs cutting and then quite enjoying doing it
Flicking through the tv and coming across Gardeners World and sticking with it !? Hated all things garden when younger but now love a good potter

Londre · 25/04/2023 21:35

Flying long haul by myself, having a drivers licence, doing mundane things like MOT, paying bills & having a career! I feel like a child still!

DeNeushoornHeeftEenHoorn · 25/04/2023 21:43

When I order a very dry martini!

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 25/04/2023 21:50

I have a kid, married & divorced.
Run a big team of people at work, organise epic holidays for me and my daughter etc etc.

But actually that "oh crap, I'm an adult" moment was when cats protection let mr adopt my floofy boy. It was like "oh yeah, that's like a really grown up thing to do"

Iamblossom · 25/04/2023 22:02

My friend was driving us somewhere the other day and I just had this weird feeling that I was in the company of an actual grown up adult woman, and I'd didn't feel like I was the same at all.

She has 3 children, who all do sports and after school activities, runs a big house, has a part time busy job, a high earning husband with a corporate job, busy busy busy.

I have 2 late teen kids, work full time in a corporate job, run a house, married too.... Just didn't feel the same as her at all... Weird....

TribeD · 26/04/2023 18:43

When I'm called "Mrs Tribe"

When I realise that all of my team are younger than me, and that at least three are young enough to be my children.

When it's a "good" day to get the washing pegged out.

When I buy veg - When I was little I swore I'd never eat vegetables, I was only ever going to eat cakes.

As476 · 26/04/2023 18:57

Oh also when me and my dad went to pick up some furniture and I got in the passenger seat of the van. He turfed me out and made me drive 😂 I felt like such an adult!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/04/2023 19:00

This is a sad one but when you become the person looking after your parents Sad

MumofSpud · 26/04/2023 19:11

Making my bed in the morning- I could never understand this as a child / teen / student!

AbsoIutelyLovely · 26/04/2023 19:15

Getting married.

and then, My mum dying. I felt very grown up instantly.…. and at the same time like a small child.

VaddaABeetch · 26/04/2023 19:37

Unfortunately, I can relate to this.

squashyhat · 26/04/2023 20:31

Buying a sideboard. It's such a grown up piece of furniture.
