What have people been to see lately that they've enjoyed (and is still on...am sad I missed Come From Away).

I saw Oklahama recently and LOVED it so it's inspired me to see a few more things.

I've shortlisted 2:22 (though accidentally found out the ending so not sure if it's worth it now), Witness for the Prosecution, and Hamilton (though seats don't seem to be on sale at the moment). Interested what else is out there I should consider and haven't. No DC to consider in my choices, just for me.

Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club

I went to see Lehman Brothers last week. Incredible show. I went to a weekday matinee on a day ticket. I had a stalls seat , row J, normally £99 ( eek) for under £30.

it was much funnier and easier to understand than I had anticipated, I had assumed it would be more about the bank collapse, but it was far more about the social and economic history of the US , immigration, the economics of supply and demand, and the way money makes money -for some people!

Come from Away is touring next year so you may get another chance to see it!

Not sure if it's still on but Medea at sohoplace was amazing.

Pretty Woman last year.
Better than I expected.

Beautiful (the Carole King musical) Not at the West End though. Really good.

WoodenFloorboards · 23/04/2023 15:24

Guys and Dolls at the Bridge is every bit as good as they say it is. Go for the standing interactive area if you can physically manage it.

Lehman Trilogy is also an interesting story and great if you're interested in theatre for its own sake. Simon Russell Beale playing a six year old girl was memorable when I saw it.

BirdChirp · 23/04/2023 15:42

Interesting about Lehman Brothers, a friend recently saw it and really liked it but he is more business minded than me so I still wasn't sure. Good to see it getting more endorsements on the thread, I shall put it on my shortlist.

The thought of being 'immersed' at Guys and Dolls gives me the horrors a bit, I want to just be seated nicely and not involved in any performance. I struck off Heathers as well as some nights are singalong, so I think maybe in general it wouldn't be for me.

Eugenius at the a Turbine in Battersea. Camp and cheesy.

CocoPlum · 23/04/2023 15:50

Heathers singalongs are only once every 6 months or so and sell out really fast, you won't accidentally end up at one. Took my 13yo earlier this year and we loved it!

WillowtreeHouse · 23/04/2023 15:52

Choir of Man is great.

downtonupton · 23/04/2023 16:29

Cabaret at the KitKat Club - is amazing - one of the best things I have ever seen ever ever ever...

Haus1234 · 23/04/2023 16:31

The Lehman Trilogy is really really good.

Also excellent: To Kill A Mockingbird, Hamilton, Life Of Pi (if it’s still on)

I think it has just finished.

memo to self: Just Book It.

JulesJules · 23/04/2023 16:37

I would love to see the Guys and Dolls production, it's my favourite musical. I've signed up for touring dates info for Come from Away.

JaneFondue · 23/04/2023 16:37

Another vote for The Lehman Trilogy. Brilliant.
Also loved To Kill a Mockingbird.
Six is great if still playing.

jazzybelle · 23/04/2023 16:46

Try TKTS on the day for half price tickets.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 23/04/2023 17:05

Another saying Guys and Dolls. Absolutely amazing.

CuteCillian · 23/04/2023 17:11

Not started yet, but I'm hoping for great things from Groundhog Day- The Musical at The Old Vic.
Another one likely to sell out is The Crown Jewels at The Garrick. Some well known names and only on for 11 weeks.
Hamilton is touring next year.

🤐
my lips are sealed - but OMG so good

Bramshott · 23/04/2023 18:16

Operation Mincemeat at Fortune Theatre.

We saw it in the Easter holidays and loved it, and they've just extended the run to mid-August. There are a few tracks on YouTube/Spotify if you want to get an idea, but if you like Hamilton and Come From Away I reckon you'd absolutely love it!

Cookerhood · 23/04/2023 18:18

I thought Oklahoma! was awful.
Also signed up for Come from Away, it was great.

JaneFondue · 23/04/2023 18:23

Going to see Guys and Dolls soon. Glad to hear it's good.

Lemursandions · 23/04/2023 18:24

Not a musical but I saw A Streetcar Named Desire and absolutely loved it - was blown away by this performance. If it wasn’t so hard to get tickets I’d have gone back the next night!

standing at the sky’s edge was really lovely - it’s transferring to the west end in February and I’d really recommend ( musical about Sheffield).

Am not really a huge musical fan but also thought operation mincemeat very good and very funny!

Agree Medea was brilliant as well.

There is so much great stuff on in London atm - feel really privileged and wish I could afford it all!
