What have people been to see lately that they've enjoyed (and is still on...am sad I missed Come From Away).

I saw Oklahama recently and LOVED it so it's inspired me to see a few more things.

I've shortlisted 2:22 (though accidentally found out the ending so not sure if it's worth it now), Witness for the Prosecution, and Hamilton (though seats don't seem to be on sale at the moment). Interested what else is out there I should consider and haven't. No DC to consider in my choices, just for me.

Newsies is the only show I have ever been to where there has been a standing ovation at the interval. The dancing is mind blowing.

rose69 · 23/04/2023 18:30

We sat in the cheapest seats and you could see everything. Operation Mincemeat is excellent.

I didn't like Newsies. V Disney. No surprise because it is Disney. The dancing was great but script and songs very cheesy.

Beware of newsies if you don't like people noisily eating crisps during the performance. The theatre sells them so won't do anything to stop the noise.

I thought Oklahoma! was awful.
Also signed up for Come from Away, it was great.

No way! I don't usually like musicals, but I thought it was so well cast, acted and sung. I wasn't keen on one section but it wasn't long (won't say which in case people go to see it). I can see how it might not be to everyone's taste though.

I wasn't aware of Operation Mincemeat, that sounds good. I heard about SIX on the 'Not just the tudors' podcast so know a little about that one

Try TKTS on the day for half price tickets.

Yes thanks I've got an app, think it's that one, to get cheaper tickets as I'm fine with last minute.

Come from away was my favourite theatre show until last week when we went to see Six, I absolutely loved it as did my DH and two teenage DDs. It has your full attention from start to finish.

If you do get an opportunity to see Come from away, book tickets as it's amazing too!

DaisyDando · 23/04/2023 18:45

I saw Cabaret when it opened and it was so breathtakingly good. I assume the current cast are also amazing. I’ve also seen Guys and Dolls (twice!) and would recommend that too. Gallery seats are just fine.
How about Dancing at Lughnasa? I saw this recently and it was great.
I’ve seen some good deals on Newsies if you shop around. (Not seen it yet.)
I also enjoyed Streetcar.

JustDanceAddict · 23/04/2023 18:46

Definitely Cabaret!!!

Pedestriancrossing · 23/04/2023 18:47

Another Caberet enthusiast here! Absolutely loved it, not just the show itself but the pre show stuff they do, really good.

JaneFondue · 23/04/2023 18:49

Just be warned The Lehman Trilogy is v long. 3.5 hours I think. But marvellous. I wish I has hidden some snacks in my pockets though.

I had a “singer” in the seat in front of me. Quick word with an usher at the interval and they were dealt with.

Compare and contrast with Frozen (an evening performance) which was full of overtired toddlers. Some were shouting out, running up and down the aisles, parents got iPads out to entertain them, but the highlight was the toddler behind me who did a massive poo in her nappy about 10 mins in and her parents let her sit in it so as to not disrupt the performance. When they got up it was all over the seat.

I’ll take people eating crisps any day 😂😂

choirmumoftwo · 23/04/2023 18:54

Saw a live cinema screening of Lehman Trilogy and it was stunning . Highly recommend.

BirdChirp · 23/04/2023 19:02

That's hilarious about Frozen. I'd quite like to see Matilda as I like Tim Minchin and I was quite drawn to the Sponge Bob the musical Grin. But thought it would be a bit odd for an adult on their own (and don't think I could cope with noisy children).

Signed up for Come from away notifications. Had a look at Six, it's very booked up but I have quite the list to work through now anyway.

Six is great. But saw it on tour in more local theatre not the west end. Same for the king and I and my fair lady.

last show we saw in the west end was Cinderella which was amazing but unfortunately not on anymore.

was thinking of taking dd1 to see guys and dolls as an end of A levels treat. Glad to see most would recommend it. It looks amazing!

You mean the year 7 expressive dance section? Dire. I quite enjoyed the first half but had had enough after the interval.

BirdChirp · 23/04/2023 19:10

Yes, that section.

It's not out until the autumn but everyone should go and see My Neighbour Totoro at the Barbican. It's stunning.

MymblesMother · 23/04/2023 19:12

2:22 is brilliant and I would see it again despite knowing how it pans out (I'm actually seeing it again when it tours later this year)

downtonupton · 23/04/2023 16:29

Cabaret at the KitKat Club - is amazing - one of the best things I have ever seen ever ever ever...

Same here

Tried to see this first time around but was too expensive. Will try again.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 23/04/2023 19:16

Hoping Back to the Future & Tina Turner are good as we’ve booked to go in August!

JaneFondue · 23/04/2023 19:18

Tina is great! Though a bit sad. But happy ending.
If I am not wrong the lead singer is Grammy nominated for her own music.

saveforthat · 23/04/2023 19:23

2:22 is the best thing I've seen in years. Shame you know the ending but I would definitely see it again if the chance arises.

Bbq1 · 23/04/2023 19:26

Six is amazing. Absolutely love it. Anything Goes is also a fantastic musical.
