Is your living room tidy right now?

Would you be happy for a guest to pop in right now? Or would you need time to tidy?

We are generally quite tidy but DH is recovering from an op so there's medication strewn about, pillows and blankets in the sofa and to keep the dog entertained, there's a box that's part shredded. It needs dusting and hoovering and there's a pile of washing that's ready to go in the washing machine.

Our teens have just cleaned the kitchen from last night as we ate super late and everyone had had long days at work so couldn't be bothered.

I'm feeling a bit urgh about tidying up but know I'd feel mortified if someone knocked right now.

Right now, it's fine as it's Saturday and that's when we do our big tidy. The dining table is full of stuff as it seems to have been overtaken by DD's revision and art stuff (GCSES are looming) and I don't want to stress her by asking her to move it but besides that we're all good.

IHeartGeneHunt · 22/04/2023 17:01

Fuck no. I would be fine with friends coming round though, they know me well enough and it's clean, it's just a mess.

stargirl1701 · 22/04/2023 17:01

The living room is but the dining room table is covered in a pile of ironing!

Holycow23x · 22/04/2023 17:01

It’s today for the time of day for a change. LO is with her Gran tonight, and we’ve just arrived home after a nice lunch in the beer garden, so that’s probably why 🤣 x

GalileoHumpkins · 22/04/2023 17:16

Yes, I've tidied and cleaned the whole room this morning, even the cat tree has been hoovered!

RenoDakota · 22/04/2023 17:18

Yes. But only because I have guests in about an hour! Was a totally different story this morning.

Paperexcelandpens · 22/04/2023 17:23

Yes. I did all the housework yesterday so it's all looking lovely.

Mummytolittleones92 · 22/04/2023 17:26

My house is always really tidy as I hate clutter. I will also disclose that I have a playroom downstairs, and this dear readers is much like Monica’s cupboard full of rubbish 😬

Kim82 · 22/04/2023 17:28

There’s a blanket on the floor and another on the sofa, plus it needs dusting, hoovering and mopping. It’ll do til tomorrow, I can’t be arsed cleaning it right now.

Ah now I'm a childminder so we have a playroom and that is immaculate! I can't host guests in there though 🤣

I’ve just deep cleaned the kitchen and we did a tip run today anyway to clear some unwanted shite. There is laundry to be folded on the dining table but I hoovered the downstairs last night so if guests arrived, I’d not be too mortified!

ramanw2 · 22/04/2023 19:32

No, mine is horrific.

As soon as I start tidying, my children make more mess.

I would be mortified if someone called over but because I'm such a grumpy cow, everyone knows not to turn up uninvited 🤣

Bemyclementine · 22/04/2023 19:32

By my standards , yes.its hoovered too. Not manky, just too much stuff.

ChocAuVin · 22/04/2023 19:36

This is so timely! My friend dropped round totally unannounced this afternoon (I was out) and she afterwards remarked how tidy my living room looked – yes, she had looked through the window Confused

Bibbetybobbity · 22/04/2023 19:36

Yes- I’m one of those people who hates clutter too, so it’s pretty much always tidy. I will say though that some houses are just hard to keep straight- I moved from an old small house to a bigger new build and I was like ‘ohhhhh- this is how come everyone else’s houses always look nice’….

UndercoverCop · 22/04/2023 19:37

Tidy, polished, dusted yesterday, could do with a hoover, DH was meant to do it today but the dressing gown of doom is on and man flu abound. I'm not doing it.

NotTooOldPaul · 22/04/2023 19:43

Yes, my house is clean and tidy and has been for weeks.
We came away on holiday just over two weeks ago and the day we came on holiday our cleaners cleaned and made the bed so it will.all be perfect when we get home tomorrow.
In two days we will have it as untidy as usual

golddustwomen · 22/04/2023 19:44

Absolutely not!

nicky2512 · 22/04/2023 19:47

No it’s v untidy. Ds has been revising for his AS and I think every book he owns has been spread out on every surface. Don’t mind though. He’ll put them all away later.

AspinallaSmythe · 22/04/2023 19:47

Always tidy here, I hate clutter and don't buy lots of stuff, also have lots of storage.

AncientToaster · 22/04/2023 19:50

All public areas very tidy, bedroom has loads of laundry that needs putting away though. But my ankle biter is an adult now so much easier.

Suzi888 · 22/04/2023 19:54

Yes. All clean and tidy.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 22/04/2023 19:55

….No

loislovesstewie · 22/04/2023 19:55

You've got to be joking! I'm having renovations to the ground floor. I've got worktops, kitchen units, a sink, and other assorted items in the dining room waiting to be fitted. I've got the contents of my kitchen units in the living room in boxes and large bags. I can't move anywhere as there are tools everywhere for the trades on Monday. I've got boxes of tiles distributed through the ground floor. I've had to empty the cupboard under the stairs for the electrician to get in and sort out the wiring for new sockets So all the junk from there is in the dining room. . I think you get the picture!

Wishona · 22/04/2023 19:57

Nope it’s full of toys.
I’d still let people in though. I’m happy for people to see a lived in house.

I do a lot of home visits, most people have messy houses to varying degrees.
