Is your living room tidy right now?

Would you be happy for a guest to pop in right now? Or would you need time to tidy?

We are generally quite tidy but DH is recovering from an op so there's medication strewn about, pillows and blankets in the sofa and to keep the dog entertained, there's a box that's part shredded. It needs dusting and hoovering and there's a pile of washing that's ready to go in the washing machine.

Our teens have just cleaned the kitchen from last night as we ate super late and everyone had had long days at work so couldn't be bothered.

I'm feeling a bit urgh about tidying up but know I'd feel mortified if someone knocked right now.

I’m painting and re blacking the fire surround and fireplace so the lounge is full of my gear. But we’re otherwise in good shape. Would take me 5-10mins to spruce for a guest and if friends are coming they can just see that I’m doing stuff. It doesn’t need to be a show home.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 23/04/2023 09:54

No, unusually it's a tip although I normally try to keep it as the one guaranteed guest-ready space. Busy work with with H away and a few things going on that meant not much time at home. And it was my birthday yesterday, so was either out, or feet up with wine. It won't get done today either, as I'm a little behind with some planting in the garden which is more time-critical. I don't work Mondays though, so it will eventually get sorted.

SunshineIndoors123 · 23/04/2023 10:11

Nope, toys all over the show. Cushions everywhere so the baby can't crawl into/under stuff. I'd be mortified if anyone showed up unannounced but I've genuinely given up. Every time I tidy up, the house looks like it's been ransacked after a day.

RoseMartha · 23/04/2023 10:39

Fairly. A couple of things need to go in the dishwasher and there are some leafiest and hobby stuff out.

FrillyGoatFluff · 23/04/2023 11:53

Yea, but only because I've shut everyone in the kitchen and set the hoover going in the front room 😂

@NotTooOldPaul won't that mean that there's two weeks worth of dust though when you get home from holiday?

I hope it is invisible dust 😔

That would happen whether the house was tidy or not though 🤷🏻‍♀️. Honestly I’ve never noticed vast amounts of dust when getting home from a holiday.

ASGIRC · 23/04/2023 16:20

Theres currently laundry drying in the airer, so I wouldnt choose to have people over, but its not really a mess, just part of life!
If it werent for the laundry, Id have to put away one plate and a couple of glasses, and I would be guests ready!

Cherrysoup · 23/04/2023 16:32

It needs hoovering and the 3 dog beds could do with tidying up, but it’s not outrageous.

hiredandsqueak · 23/04/2023 17:05

Yes, but it's always tidy. Ddog has displaced a cushion to lie on but that's it. I vaccuumed and dusted earlier. The only time it's untidy is when dgs is here as he comes with a basket of toys.

Oh my god! People like your friend are why I love living on the 3rd floor! Confused

I can't imagine a scenario where I'd go peer through someone's windows when the door wasn't answered, unless I really genuinely thought they might be lying dead or injured and helpless on the floor.

She really is lovely — but I did think, Whaaaaaaaaat?!

watchthebloodycat · 23/04/2023 21:27

Yes. I'm a minimalist and it's always easily tidied. Life changing stuff!

justanotherdrama · 23/04/2023 21:30

We have electric gates and so people have to buzz in for us to open the gates which is ace

I have no problem telling anyone sorry it's not convenient right now I've got x,y,z on or I'm expecting a visitor

Best investment ever 🤪

PickleOfAConundrum · 23/04/2023 21:31

I'm a mimilist and my living room is clean. I did a gutting out of my flat and went to the dump, charity shops and gave my mum some things. A tidy home is a tidy mind so I can relax and unwind knowing it's clean and tidy but also for unexpected guests too.

ErinAoife · 23/04/2023 21:33

No my living room is a right mess, chlothes that my teen gas threw all over the flor when he was looking for something to wear and he removed stuff from his bag and dump it on the sofa. Only toilet downstairs are clean, the rest of house is like a bomb has exploded

Theoldwoman · 23/04/2023 22:22

Yes, I’m a minimalist so it’s always clean and tidy and well minimal!

I wipe the coffee table down daily, there’s nothing on it so easy Peasy. The robot runs over the floor daily. We take cups out when finished. I don’t fold laundry in there at all. No toys as no longer kids here.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 23/04/2023 22:35

It is because I tidied before a friend came round yesterday Grin

It is still tidy because I have done nothing today and DH is away!

LilQueenie · 23/04/2023 22:38

far from tidy here. Lots of furniture to be moved into place after work was done. Toys and art stuff all over the floor. Yes I wouldn't mind someone coming in. Things happen. I'm not a showhouse and don't expect people to think I have one.

AdoraBell · 15/06/2023 17:06

Yes, but only because it’s not used. Dining table is in the kitchen and TV and comfy chairs in the dining room.

CeriB82 · 15/06/2023 17:52

Always tidy!!
