cheap stuff is better than posh stuff

Not just better considering it's cheap but you actually think is superior?

I used to buy clothes detergent pods etc, not I use bargain own brand powder and it's great. Likewise own brand washing up liquid I think is better than fairy and co.

Big tubs of hair mask for four quid always seem better than posh conditioner I sometimes buy.

How about you? What are your bargains?

Forgot to say the Aldi version of Marmite as @Cumberlover76 mentioned above. I'm not a great lover of Marmite but I do like this.

Lidl wholemeal bread because for some reason all other wholemeal has a bitter aftertaste. Lidl bread is like sawdust but tastes much better.

Dh has always driven higher end cars in the time I’ve known him. My very ordinary cars come with actual handbrakes and back window wipers. He has a fancy car intelligence system, that does nothing Siri and Google Maps don’t do in mine except warm the seats up.

Aldi mini cheddars are much better than the originals. They’re crunchier.

Comefromaway · 24/04/2023 09:54

Superdrug own brand hot cloth cleanser is better than Liz Earle.

Local bakery bread for me, SO much nicer than Lidl, and stays fresh far longer.
M&S lemon and lime jaffa cakes - not bought any for ages though.

rattymol · 24/04/2023 10:04

It varies. I am aware that a lot of very cheap branded shampoos were once more expensive.
I bought a LIDL body cream when I was away for the weekend and forgot my usual expensive one. The LIDL one was in very functional packaging but the contents were superior.

IdealisticCynic · 24/04/2023 10:07

The giant tubs of Big Night In popcorn from Iceland. Better than any other pre-popped popcorn I’ve ever had (even better than Joe and Seph popcorn!) and an absolute bargain!

Mabelface · 24/04/2023 10:25

Charity shop clothes, meaning I can get quality cheap.
Child's farm moisturiser is doing a far superior job in my face than more expensive ones. It's cleared a patch of eczema I had and my dry patches have gone.

Tesco used to do an amazing version of Caramel Rocky Biscuits. Sooo much nicer. Sadly I haven't seen them for a couple of years - but I haven't gone back to Rocky. They taste of sadness and loss now

I got some caramel Rocky's the other week from the co op whilst they were on offer. 2 mouthfuls and it was gone. That definitely is sadness. I had to hide the pack at the pack of cupboard to stop me eating them all at once they're that small now

Beanfield2023 · 24/04/2023 10:57

I wonder if some of theses bargains are actually rejects ? Stuff that didn't make the grade so we're re packaged as a vale brand , for example Jaffa cakes ?

xogossipgirlxo · 24/04/2023 11:04

I think any supermarket bread is better than Hovis. I.e. Asda's special range.

MrSheepy · 24/04/2023 11:25

I’ve just bought ridiculously expensive cleaning stuff because it smells of geranium leaves and I thought it would inspire me to clean more. It comes in a nice refillable bottle and it has made me think that I might start decanting functional cheap stuff into nice bottles and leaving them somewhere visible so I will just grab and use as and when rather than sticking in a cupboard. I will need to make in big letters “this is not body lotion” and the like in big letters in case of guests however!

I need to know the ingredients and carbs so find the sliced stuff is best for that. As I don't use much bread it doesn't matter that is sliced as long as it isn't bitter. I miss real bread, made with 100% wheat flour. So many have been bulked out with chickpea or soya.
17g carb content per slice in Lidl wholemeal, one of the lowest in that size of slice. If I cut the top off and leave the crusts I feel quite good about it.

Does the Lidl body cream have limonene in? I used to use Lidl until they changed it and it almost removed my skin, there used to be a really nice range with no skin removing additives (perfumed stuff). I stopped looking after that and bought something else.

Aldi foodie market nut butters. Amazing and nothing added and no palm oil. Even whole earth has palm oil ffs!!

My Whole Earth peanut butter is just 100% nuts.

yoshiblue · 27/04/2023 13:55

Definitely second the Aldi Bailey (the specially selected one)

M&S and Sainsburys baked beans

Aldi Q10 face cream was amazing. They've discontinued it and I'll be on the hunt when I run out of my stash I stocked up on!

Loads in my local Aldi today!

Don’t agree on washing up liquid, Fairy lasts far longer than any other brand I’ve tried.
Aldi’s version of Baileys is nicer than normal Baileys.

Agree with you on fairy.

DanceBeneathADiamondSky · 30/04/2023 13:10

Aldi fancy yoghurts

Lidl cornflakes are the best out there, in my opinion! They're about 60p a box!

I totally agree! I would only have Kellogg’s, the own brands are too thick… until Lidl came along.

ZiggyZowie · 01/05/2024 22:55

Asda digestives instead of mcvities
Asda malted wheats instead of shredded
Asda washing up liquid instead of fairy
Asda washing powder/liquid instead of brand

ZiggyZowie · 01/05/2024 22:55

Shreddies I mean

Aldi Moser Roth chocolate is better than most other chocolate in supermarkets these days. I like the packs that have 5 mini bars in. We always have a selection in the cupboard in case any of us fancy some.

Yes to this^
and Tesco Greek style yogurt much better then any branded Greek style yogurt.
Primark men t-shirts are very good.
