cheap stuff is better than posh stuff

Not just better considering it's cheap but you actually think is superior?

I used to buy clothes detergent pods etc, not I use bargain own brand powder and it's great. Likewise own brand washing up liquid I think is better than fairy and co.

Big tubs of hair mask for four quid always seem better than posh conditioner I sometimes buy.

How about you? What are your bargains?

Aldi Q10 day and night creams. More expensive creams make my eyes run like taps but I can slap these on and no problem. A poster up thread said they are being discontinued, please no😢

MrsWidgerysLodger · 23/04/2023 17:19

Aldi Moser Roth chocolate is better than most other chocolate in supermarkets these days. I like the packs that have 5 mini bars in. We always have a selection in the cupboard in case any of us fancy some.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost body lotion is far more moisturising than my usual Dermalogica body lotion. And it’s £5 versus about £40.

I rarely find a cheaper and better alternative. I am a fan of originals though - eg a standard chocolate eclair is better than the deluxe salted caramel with gold flakes version.

Oh me too! All those hot cross bun flavours were never as good as the original.

Aveeno - the cream in a tube - £4 - is the best face cream ever. I have tried ones costing hundreds and none are a patch on it

LondonMiss1 · 23/04/2023 17:43

Aldi Pomegranate Hand & Body Wash it’s stunning, every visitor complimented it in the downstairs toilet

weaselwords · 23/04/2023 17:45

East End chick peas are big, floury, gorgeous and cheapest I’ve ever found. No other chick pea compares.

LadyMuckingabout · 23/04/2023 17:51

Aldi Titan Bars - knock-off Mars Bars and nicer than the original.

I agree about washing powder: less convenient, maybe, but much better at cleaning.

Also agree that the “plain” originals of food are much nicer. But my dcs say that’s a sign I’m an old person Grin

I bought them a couple of weeks ago in my local store.
I'll be gutted if they discontinue.

Polkadotpjs · 23/04/2023 18:00

What's this about Aldi creams ?? Nooooo

Wiglio · 23/04/2023 18:54

I was in Budapest recently and bought a nice cheap body cream from Aldi for my dry as dust shins, couldn’t bring it home and it’s been long discontinued here

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/04/2023 18:55

Baby lotion beats any brand of eye makeup remover. It takes anything off.

HRTQueen · 23/04/2023 19:15

Aldi plain and their cheese and onion crisps are really good prefer them to walkers

Aldi and Lidl chocolate and the full fat greet yogurt

Aldi no added sugar and salt peanut butter is delicious a little oily but I like that

Aldi and Lidl Olive oil

MummyJ12 · 23/04/2023 19:20

Chocolate, (really don’t like the fancy expensive stuff like Hotel Chocolat etc. give me a bar of dairy milk any day!)

TwoMonthsOff · 23/04/2023 19:22

@JoeLovesGina
i made the error of buying mcvites the other day absolutely rank…..but they were lemon and lime thought they’d be nice ….Lidls are perfect ( I stopped buying them as ate a whole tray at a time)

Mum2jenny · 23/04/2023 19:24

Cheap stuff is usually cheap for a reason. I prefer consistency with quality.
Some own brand stuff is ok, but much isn’t. I guess it depends on how much money you want to use to ‘try’ the alternatives

TwoMonthsOff · 23/04/2023 19:25

@PensionPuzzle and their cornflakes have no added sugar but the weetabix are horrible, Tesco weetabix were okay last time I got some which was a while ago.

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/04/2023 19:28

Sainsbury’s no added sugar high juice squash is way better than robinsons, I also think that cheap cadburys type milk chocolate has a place in the universe equal to fancy dark stuff..

Other than that not a lot, but agree with PP that your standard item - hot cross bun, chocolate finger, bagel is way better than the inevitable double chocolate salted caramel version.

Sausages. Love a cheap sausage.

Agreed.

Niftythrifter · 23/04/2023 19:53

Lidl bakery is better than Sainsbury’s imo.

That's the discontinued for a while now. They havent been available online for a few months. You might be lucky and fine some in store. I bought 6 tubs about 2 months ago and havent seen any more since.

drinkingcream · 23/04/2023 22:51

Lidl mozzarella is good if you compare to other supermarkets and much cheaper!

Epicstorm · 23/04/2023 23:01

Aldi mint bubbly bar is better than mint aero.

Upwiththelark76 · 23/04/2023 23:12
