For me Yorkshire/Whitby would be the furthest North, although I will be in Newcastle for the first time next month. Never been to Scotland but it’s on my list:

Furthest South would be Lulworth:Dorset, absolutely beautiful.

A couple of years back I took my camper around the UK and did the four cardinal points of the mainland starting at Ness Point then down to Lizard Point, up to Dunnet Head then onto Ardnamurchan Point. Caught the ferry to Orkney and went all around there before heading back home via John O'Groats. I was away five weeks in total but did those in three. Covered over barriers to get as far out on my GPS too, right to the edge. Most enjoyable tick list! Had previously been to lands end so didn't bother with that.

Done northern and southermost tips of Africa too.

WeeOrcadian · 14/04/2023 17:55

Kind of surprised so many people have given a trip to Land's End as their most southerly destination but not then ventured to Lizard Point (the actual most southern point).

Anyway, Lizard Point is the most southerly I've been, Inverness is the most northerly.

Is Lizard point privately owned and you have to pay to go there?

Last time I went (2019) you'd to pay for parking but you could wander round the area freely - plenty of shops and cafes nearby.

North - Inverness

South - Cornwall, I think the Lizard Point but my memory is hazy as I was a child! Otherwise it would be St Ives or maybe Penzance. I'll have to ask my parents Grin

Why not East and West, OP?

East - Lowestoft

West - as for South (would like to visit NW Scotland though as I hear it's beautiful)

On reflection it was Land's End.

(Why is it called Land's End, I wonder, if it's not actually the most southern point?! I suppose it's the most westerley point in England... not UK as that would be in Scotland.)

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/04/2023 20:50

Furthest north was Aberdeen. Furthest South was Cornwall.

No, the other way round. Lizard Point is National Trust and free to visit (might have to pay to park). Land's End is privately owned I think and you have to pay for some things (having your photo taken next to the sign for instance).
