Where’s the furtherest North & South you’ve been in the UK

For me Yorkshire/Whitby would be the furthest North, although I will be in Newcastle for the first time next month. Never been to Scotland but it’s on my list:

Furthest South would be Lulworth:Dorset, absolutely beautiful.

North - Thurso
south - Portsmouth

South: Isle of Wight
North: Orkney

gogohmm · 14/04/2023 16:58

North Unst in the Shetlands, most northern point in U.K. and Penzance in Cornwall, also lizard, not sure which is most southern

gogohmm · 14/04/2023 17:00

Ok checked it's the lizard. So yes I've officially done bothGrin

RhubarbFairy · 14/04/2023 17:03

South: Lizard Point, the most southerly point of the UK. Very pretty town.

North: not very. Glasgow as a child, just for the day. I'd love to go to Scotland properly.

A complete tangent but we were invited to a wedding on Lewis many years ago, that we unfortunately couldn't make. The logistics to get there were nuts.

ShakeYourFeathers · 14/04/2023 17:04

Been to Lands End and John o Groats

Also been to the Isles of Scilly if that counts

ShakeYourFeathers · 14/04/2023 17:05

Oh yes I've also been to the Lizard too

Crikeyalmighty · 14/04/2023 17:05

Lizard and fort William

AnotherEmma · 14/04/2023 17:06

North - Inverness

South - Cornwall, I think the Lizard Point but my memory is hazy as I was a child! Otherwise it would be St Ives or maybe Penzance. I'll have to ask my parents Grin

Why not East and West, OP?

East - Lowestoft

West - as for South (would like to visit NW Scotland though as I hear it's beautiful)

Notegoat · 14/04/2023 17:07

Lands end south :)

gogohmm · 14/04/2023 17:09

@RhubarbFairy

Yes the Scottish islands aren't east or cheap to visit. We have relatives there so free accommodation, and we need a full week off work plus the extra weekend for just a few days there - we drive up north of Preston after work on the Friday (3+ hours) then onto Aberdeen for the Saturday overnight ferry, we head back on the Friday ferry overnight in the lakes on Saturday getting home Sunday. Can only do this because no kids and use a motorcycle that means we don't get caught up in the traffic as much, oh and it's a lot cheaper than a car on the ferry!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/04/2023 17:09

Orkney
Lands End

EyesOnThePies · 14/04/2023 17:12

Achnasheen in Scotland
Salcome in Devon

merryhouse · 14/04/2023 17:16

Cornwall - don't think I've been to Land's End but I've been to St Michael's Mount. Fairly certain we visited Mousehole too. Possibly went to the Scillies? No, probably not.

Inverness. Also been to Skye, probably to the northern part (we were there for a week and did beaches and moors), so that might be further north, looking at the map.

merryhouse · 14/04/2023 17:18

Actually I can't believe we'd have gone all the way to Mousehole and not popped across to Land's End. Will have to trawl the family photos (or ask oldest sister).

Theresamooselooseabootthishoose · 14/04/2023 17:18

Lizards point and John o Groats.. almost done the whole gaff in between. Amazing places (although John o groats’ gift shops were a let down 😅)

MrsWidgerysLodger · 14/04/2023 17:23

Edinburgh and Lands End

Lucienandjean · 14/04/2023 17:25

North: Unst (Shetland). I've been to Skaw (most northerly house) and Hermaness (most northerly point)

South: Lands End and the Lizard. Though I've been to Guernsey too - not sure if that counts.
