Considering the numerous Scots I know, I can say most would find it hilarious after a few drinks.

Possibly not for everyday wear however.

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 12/04/2023 11:17

No, just twatty.

OneSmallStepUp · 12/04/2023 11:17

As a Scottish person, I can confidently say I'm not offended if you chose to wear one, but I would probably class you as a bit tacky.
I think calling this hat racism is belittling real racism.

No more racist than the Guinness leprechaun top hats that come out every st Patrick day. Or cartoonish caricatures of Rastafarians

Being a britpop kid in the 90s I was accused of being racist for wearing a t shirt with black grapes stupid stupid stupid album cover (Golliwog). Has to point out that two of the vocalists were black (at the time).

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 12/04/2023 11:51

I don't think it's racist, but I also don't think the person has been born who would look good in it.

LakeTiticaca · 12/04/2023 12:19

Scottish is not a race

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 12/04/2023 12:21

Well as someone with red hair, can I be offended? 😂No, it's absolutely not racist. Or gingerist.

DoraSpenlow · 12/04/2023 13:10

My much missed Scottish FIL used to wear his at family parties.

postapesto · 12/04/2023 13:12

Scottish isn't a race. It's not racist. There are plenty of people who would find it offensive though.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 12/04/2023 13:12

Why would you want one?? I wouldn’t necessarily think it’s was offensive, but depending on the context I might think it’s a bit tacky and you were a bit thick.

Timeforachangeisitnot · 12/04/2023 13:52

I love that Amazon describe that as ‘stylish and traditional ‘.

OP I can think of no single occasion when that would be the appropriate head gear to wear, but if it floats your boat, you wear it, with the best wishes of this ginger headed Scot.

Scottish is not a race

It is an ethnic group with a history of discrimination levelled against them.

ItsThePlayBusDingDing · 12/04/2023 13:54

I'm Scottish, it's not offensive (or racist) just tedious.

It is an ethnic group with a history of discrimination levelled against them.

And an ethnic group that have participated in the discrimination of others.

potatowhale · 12/04/2023 14:04

Why are you asking? When are you planning on wearing it? Is it a weird bedroom thing?

GloomySkies · 12/04/2023 14:10

postapesto · 12/04/2023 13:59

And an ethnic group that have participated in the discrimination of others.

It's not discrimination top trumps.

Also the Scots are both a nation and an ethnic group (yes I am aware that not all Scottish nationals belong to the Scottish ethnic group) so yes it is possible to be racist against the Scots.

maddy68 · 12/04/2023 14:14

For goodness sake. People are just looking to be offended

Wear what you like. No Scot would be offended by that

Seymour5 · 12/04/2023 14:21

And an ethnic group that have participated in the discrimination of others.

That could be applied to every ethnic group.

it reminds me of Russ Abbot, daft comedian. He did a fair impression of an idiot impersonating a red haired Scottish person.

skippy67 · 12/04/2023 14:25

🙄

Not at all to the same extent. Scottish people are not exactly high on the list of oppressed peoples.

CharlotteRose90 · 12/04/2023 14:46

I’m part Scottish and definitely wouldn’t find that racist. It’s a joke if anything

PinsandneedlesinbonesOUCH · 12/04/2023 14:50

Ethnicity is not the same as race.

RunningFromInsanity · 12/04/2023 14:50

We wore them at a recent hen do where the groom is Scottish.
2 members of the party were also Scottish and didn’t find them offensive.

Why? That's a bit weird imo

Lessoftheold · 12/04/2023 15:00

I'm Scottish and would certainly roll my eyes at someone wearing that. Weird and bordering on offensive.
