Did you win the first thread? Do you win the prize (which I believe was my respect and admiration)? If the other thread gets to 1000 come here to claim your prize.

Any more places to claim? I'll start, in honour of Pontins Prestatyn....

@Kendodd I’ve skied at Dizin.

HonorHiding · 11/04/2023 22:56

@NetballHoop Yes to Peshawar. I agree it’s not a great place to be a woman.

HonorHiding · 11/04/2023 23:00

@lifeturnsonadime I’ve been to Soweto, but not in the company of Winnie Mandela!

So impressed with the travel on this thread.

of those mentioned so far, I have visited (well, while working)
Lake Malawi
san Blas islands, Panama,
Lantau island

can offer ( also for work sadly)
Masnaa border crossing between Lebanon & syria (also Damascus & Homs)
Garowe Somalia
Samarkand (Uzbekistan)

would like someone to say they’ve been to Tahiti so I can ask what it’s like.

I've been to Tahiti! Twice in fact. Also to the smaller island of Moorea but not to any of the others in French Polynesia (e.g. Bora Bora). It was lovely. Would love to see more of the Pacific nations (have visited Fiji).

@Mumtobabyhavoc

I remember a little old lady setting up a card table and changing our money.

At one point going to the border from either Italy or what was Yugoslavia we had to wait ages whilst border guards were drinking inside. Not a place I would like to turn up to alone!!!

Deathraystare · 12/04/2023 03:04

Re Albania - One thing that amused me was our guides and other men wearing suits but never matchy matchy. A lot of navy and beige. So a navy jacket with beige trousers or vice versa.

I noticed a few girls dresses in a shop with that shirred elastic. All beige. Not a good colour as they all had darkish 'gypsy' colouring.

Itslookinggood · 12/04/2023 05:50

Ooh@Azure what’s Tahiti like please? On my bucket list since saw pictures but don’t want it to be a disappointment…

@NeedToKnow101 As a water-loving north Londoner, I am furious to discover that I’ve been deprived of a local lido!

I feel your pain. Im still in the area and have a decades-long, simmering fury about it closing. It was just brilliant, had very high boards; if someone was spotted climbing the ladder to the top, it went silent as everyone stopped and watched to see if they would do an excellent dive, a belly-flip, or bottle it and climb back down.
My DC and their friends really lost out, not having that brilliant place to hang out in.

BigBadBoom · 12/04/2023 11:32

@Time40 I'm sorry to say that I have also had to endure that terrible Nessie Museum.

My submissions are...

Cherating, Malaysia
Valley of the Beautiful Women, Hungary
Scourie, NW Scotland

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 12/04/2023 11:33

@NeedToKnow101 Sounds like crappy Finchley “lido” and Park Road pool are no compensation at all. Grrrr. We’re really poorly served for outdoor swimming in north London.

We really are! Park Road is ok if you can swim when it's not busy, but it's so horrible at busy times. And sorry to make you feel even more hard done by, but Finchley Lido used to be enormous. I went there a couple of years ago and was shocked to find it was about a quarter of its original size! 😱😭😭😭😭
Hampstead Ladies Pond is lovely.

I'm sorry to say that I have also had to endure that terrible Nessie Museum.

It's one of dc1's favourite places!!!

I haven't been anywhere particularly exciting compared to many on these threads but will try the following:

Inside El Castillo, the main pyramid at Chichen Itza. It was very claustrophobic feeling but fascinating.
Checkpoint Charlie (as a child)
Boa Island to see the Janus Stone (Fermanagh)

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 12/04/2023 12:26

@NeedToKnow101 I remember the old Finchley Lido from my childhood and am still very, very angry.

Santasoorplooms · 12/04/2023 14:44
