Did you have a giant baby? How did they grow as a child?

DD is 5 months and quite large. She was large at birth (9 pounds at 38 weeks). She’s above the 91st percentile for weight and literally off the chart for height. She barely fits in 12 month clothing (of a variety of brands) and I’ve bought 18 month now which fits without much room to grow. She’s wearing many of her brothers hand me downs so I know she is much bigger than he was at the same age. (Some clothes she wears now fit DS when he was walking at 15 months). She is a full 6 cm longer than my best friend’s baby, who is 1 week younger and on the 75th centile.

DH and I are average though he does have tall family members. Is she likely to just have those tall genetics or might there be something wrong with her? Or is this just an early growth spurt that will even out after six months?

Eldest was 9.11, he was small to average size until around 15 and then shot up to 6'2". Youngest was 9.13, he was always slightly above average but stopped growing earlier and is now 5'11" ( their dad is 6' and I'm 5'2")

DS was the opposite - 5lb when born and grew in to a chunky kid and teen. He's 6.1 now and skinny (19).

My middle was 9lb 10 when he was born via C-section.
He is now 15 and the smallest in his class. Skinny as a rake.
I expect he will grow suddenly and be a 6 ft rake.

Both of my DC were over 9lb at birth but it was the only time in either of their lives so far that they could have been considered big. They are teens now & both very slim (youngest is actually underweight) and average height.

Ds was 9lb 4 at birth. He's now 6.6 and well built but not overweight, he has hands like shovels and size 14 feet. however dh is 6.5 so not unexpected.
Dd was 10lb 6 at birth and is now 16 years, size 4 and just 5 foot. She also has very tiny hands and feet.

Is 9lb that big? My second was 9.10 and I was relieved they were smaller!

First was 11lb.

Both long and lean. No issues,, I just grow big babies!

No, 9 lb isn't that big a baby really. My biggest baby was 10 lb 4 oz. Very petite child who is now a tall and petite young adult bordering on underweight. We've even had tests to check why so small. In the end, I've been reassured that's just how they are and they are healthy, even though their BMI is low. Some people are just like that.

My DD was nearly 9lb and very long when she was born. She kept growing quickly and has just turned 5 and in aged 8 clothes. Size 13 shoes. We are both average height!

Ds1 and da2 were both 9.11 exactly ( ds2 born at 38 weeks)
Da1 is tall and slim, ds2 is average height and very slip.
Ds1 was 60cm long st birth which was apparently very unusual. I don't think anyone told me what length ds2 was but he was a total
Chubster and not as long definitely. So I think length at birth is a better indicator than weight
