Have to psych myself up to wash my hair!

Anyone else have to psych themselves up to wash their hair. It is my number one most hated job. I'd rather put away laundry for 3 hours a day than wash my hair.
I'm far too reliant on dry shampoo. My hair doesn't really get greasy but from day 5 onwards I use it to freshen up and then my hair looks dull and waxy.
How do people convince themselves to wash their hair? Mine is so long and thick and frizzy that it takes forever to dry and straighten. Plus I shower at night so by 9pm I really can't be arsed with the whole rigmarole.
I start work at 6.30am so not a chance I'm doing the hair routine at 5.30am on a week day!
I just need to force myself to do it don't I?

I've actually done it tonight after 8 days. But I'm still seething at the fact I have to dry and straighten it now!

I have to psych myself up to brush my hair 😄 worse than ever since having 1yo, frizzy state! But never been good at brushing.

Don't get my started on brushing! I live in a high pony. It just gets ran through with my fingers and put back up each morning!

I hate washing my hair too. I'm not keen on the sensation of water on my face. Sensory issues I think.

bellac11 · 08/04/2023 20:35

No I love washing my hair, every morning in the shower

What I do notice though is that if I leave it too long in between cuts and let it get below shoulder length, I start missing every other day, then a few more days, then leave it tied up because its such a mess and annoying

A nice cut to make it more manageable and looking nice and so its not hard to wash needs to be fairly regular.

ItsCalledAConversation · 08/04/2023 20:36

You couldn’t afford to have it done (or washed, dried and styled) every other week could you? Might be worth thinking about if you hate it that much. Not necessarily in a salon, a visiting hairdresser might agree to a cheaper deal.

savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:36

Mine is just poor laziness. It's such a faff of washing, conditioning, brushing out tangles, then serum, dry, straighten, brush again etc etc.

The dream would be to have it washed and dried in a salon once a week. But I work 6.30-2.30, get the kids from school, deal with their after school activities and collapse into bed at 9pm.

Cut it? Won’t take as long…

Lastnamedidntstick · 08/04/2023 20:39

Yep. Up there with putting petrol in the car 😂

I cycle to work so shower at work. I wash my hair on Monday but there are no drying facilities just the hand dryer. Between that and helmet hair it just gets tied up so no point styling it etc. hate having to get in early on Monday to deal with it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/04/2023 20:39

Why can't you have it cut and thinned out?

barelyfunctional · 08/04/2023 20:41

Is having it cut short an option? I have thick wavy hair that’s a massive hassle to wash and dry, I usually keep it around shoulder length but I’ve had pixie cuts and even fully shaved down to around 1 inch long all over before, it’s very liberating and can still look very feminine with good accessories and makeup

ScarlettDarling · 08/04/2023 20:43

I don’t mind the washing but hate hate hate the drying and straightening faff. My hair is coarse and curly but so frizzy that I straighten it. I can’t wear it in a ponytail as I have a halo of fine baby hair around my hairline which looks ridiculous when my hair is tied back. So I have to go though the drying/ straightening palaver far too often. I hate my hair!

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/04/2023 20:46

I'm asking honestly as someone who has no choice but to wash my hair every 2 or 3 days (even at 60) because it gets greasy. Obviously we have very different hair, but washing my hair frequently is just essential. I think I'm failing to imagine "working myself up" to it.

savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:49

Can't really have it cut short as the first sign of drizzle or humidity and it looks like a mushroom. So it's actually harder to maintain short with daily straightening than it is to keep long and tie it up. It's frizzy with weird kinks in it and the weight of it being long means it's actually less frizzy than when it's short.

I have thick hair I had mine cut short and thinned out as much as possible. I still have a lot of hair but drying now takes about 5 minutes (olaplex hair oil cuts drying time quite a lot for me and I blast it with my dyson), straightening about 10-15 minutes, I don’t use conditioner as it’s short and will get greasy quickly, just heat protection.

TedMullins · 08/04/2023 20:50

Pixie cut? shave it off?

savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:50

I did used to have about half of it thinned out, but new hairdresser is rather against thinning out hair. I've had keratin treatment before which was great, but only lasted 6 weeks and was ££.

we have the same hair for sure 😭

savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:51

I would love love love to shave it off! But I'm overweight with a huge double chin, so it's never going to look attractive on me! Other people look great with shaved heads.

Is permanent hair straightening an option? My friend did it and loved it.

RoyGBivisacolorfulman · 08/04/2023 20:51

What is it like if it dries naturally?

I wash mine everyday as I hate the sensation of dirt and percieved itch. Drying is a faff so I leave it and it goes wild but at least in my head it's clean.

savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:53

I went through a phase of just going to bed with it wet for a few months, but where it's so thick it makes my head scabby and itchy if I don't blow dry it. Think it's because there's damp hair sat on my scalp for 8 hours in bed.

OP posts:
savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:54

If it dries in the day naturally then it's super curly. But more of an 80s perm than anything attractive! But I need my hair tied up at work as it's quite physical so can't have it flapping around.

iminvestednow · 08/04/2023 20:55

Agreed, wash my hair everyday as it’s what I’m used to (have very fine straight hair though so it dry by the time dressed!). Why don’t you do the keratin straightening (Brazilian straightening??) thing, and then you don’t have to worry at all!
