Have to psych myself up to wash my hair!

Anyone else have to psych themselves up to wash their hair. It is my number one most hated job. I'd rather put away laundry for 3 hours a day than wash my hair.
I'm far too reliant on dry shampoo. My hair doesn't really get greasy but from day 5 onwards I use it to freshen up and then my hair looks dull and waxy.
How do people convince themselves to wash their hair? Mine is so long and thick and frizzy that it takes forever to dry and straighten. Plus I shower at night so by 9pm I really can't be arsed with the whole rigmarole.
I start work at 6.30am so not a chance I'm doing the hair routine at 5.30am on a week day!
I just need to force myself to do it don't I?

I used to hate I washing my hair. I tried to explain to my husband but he didn't get it. I had really long hair down to my bum but neck pain made me cut it off. I now have a "lob" and it's been life changing! I can finally wash my hair in the morning and still make the school run or do it at night and not have my arms hanging off by the time Ive finished.

Granted it's not the answer for everyone but chopping off 14 inches was for me lol.

I've met my people! I thought it was just me. Sensory issues too, I have problems with showering as well, I just hate the feeling of being wet and cold. It's long enough now to just bung it in a messy bun. It does look nice when I can be bothered but mostly I can't.
OP, your hair looks gorgeous in the photo btw.

Sensory issues here too. I hate showers, and far prefer a strip wash in front the sink. Of course, on MN, it means I am the epitome of poor hygiene.

Washing hair is sooo annoying, such a thing/process.

However the worse thing ever is changing a bed. It takes me about 10 minutes to do...and that's after I've ignored it for hours.

Aww bollocks, you've just reminded me I need to make my bed! It was off my radar as I'd fully stripped it yesterday & remade it yesterday. But this morning spilt coffee on it 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️ THIS is why I have two mattress protectors on it! So only the sheet & top mattress protector needed washing today. all washed & dried in the sun, smells great! But forgot all about remaking the bed this evening.... 🤬

I do have other sheets & protectors so I could have easily made it any time today.

Naturally curly thick and very dry hair which I straighten, so used to very much be like you although I only wash it once a fortnight. Sometimes, once a month - even at this point, it's not greasy.

Now, it's no longer the chore it used to be, in part because I stopped dyeing it, so it's in much better condition. Also, I have a microfibre hair turban which my hair is wrapped in immediately after washing - most of the moisture is gone within 30 minutes. For me, this was the game changer.

I then let my hair air dry completely, and once my hair is totally dry, I use a Babayliss big hair and then run a straightening iron through it. Sometimes I leave the straightening iron to the following day as if I rub a few drops of Moroccan oil through my hair after using the Babyliss big hair and sleep on it, it's straighter the next day which means less time with the straightening iron.

QueefQueen80s · 08/04/2023 23:49

It takes a couple of mins in the shower and dries overnight

SorePaw · 08/04/2023 23:50

Sorry @savagelover I'm easily distracted!!

Yes I have had to psych myself up for the last while.

my hair is halfway down my bum. It's very very fine and tangles dreadfully now. I need to get a good blunt cut about 8 inches from the bottom.

what's been doing it for me though is driving with the car windows open. (Driving the kids & their friends to & from school. I'm very vulnerable to covid & other virus etc, so that's the deal. They can get a lift but the windows are open (couple of inches) plus my jacket collar/scarf etc. Really highlighted by the holidays, it's a breeze to wash & not masses of tangles!!

I often wear it in a pony tail or plaits & it doesn't seem to help, which makes NO sense really .

one of the reasons I've never had it shorter than a few inches below my shoulders is that it's brilliant for wash & go. It's dead straight so all I had to do was comb it and I was done. I don't have the inclination to get a style that requires drying or styling.

I was in hospital for a week a couple of years ago and it was an absolute birds nest, no amount of conditioner etc was helping. I bought a tangle tease brush and it was a amazing ! Tesco sold them at the time, but don't now (I bought a couple more recently online) it HAS to be a specific one out of their range. None of their others worked in the past.

This one!

Have to psych myself up to wash my hair!
Isanny · 08/04/2023 23:59

My hair is longer than yours OP, I make little effort with it . I wash it every time in the shower with shampoo then dry it and tie it up. I don't go for all these treatments and styling. I don't dread washing it though.

reallyreallyverytired · 09/04/2023 03:25

Get the GHD that dries and straightens at the same time

AllIeveknewonlyou · 09/04/2023 03:38

I'm rubbish at this as well, behind you OP! Before I fell asleep I put some of that Glaze conditioner stuff on as I know that will force me to wash it out in the morning 🤣

magicthree · 09/04/2023 04:00

IamMoiraRose · 08/04/2023 22:21

Day 5 onwards...🤮 that is revolting! Christ alive just wash your hair in the shower in the morning. You must stink, unwashed hair smells vile.

Oh don't talk such rubbish - what a weird thing to say, and not helpful at all.

Phoebo · 09/04/2023 04:03

Me. Every time. I have long thick hair and it takes forever. I hate it.

garlictwist · 09/04/2023 04:26

I also hate washing my hair because I hate the feeling of having wet hair. I wash it, do jobs around the house for an hour or so then dry it and straighten it. Not drying it straight away means it doesn't take that long with the hair dryer.

IsGoodIsDon · 09/04/2023 04:33

I’m the same, it’s not so much the washing but having wet hair afterwards. It’s takes over an hour to dry straight from shower it’s so thick and frizzy. I get sore arms drying it.
I refuse to let it go curly naturally as I then can’t brush my hair on days I don’t wash it and I can’t stand that and also it’s too cold and takes ages to dry.
keratin straightening help a bit and reduced drying time but still took at least 30-40 mins.
hate hate hate my thick frizzy hair. hair.

newjobnewstartihope · 08/04/2023 20:59

I'm sorry but this made me 😂
I'm sure you are being far too harsh on yourself but I say exactly the same at the thought of having it shaved off
I don't have many redeeming features but my hair is also a pain in the backside and I delay washing it as often as possible too

You and OP could shave it off then wear a wig or a head wrap. A bit of faffing but not as much as hair washing, much quicker once you're used to it.

Wallywobbles · 09/04/2023 05:21

I have very thick curly hair. It's cut to shoulders. Learn to embrace your curls. I only wash it in the morning. Shampoo. Rinse. Condition. Brush through. Rinse. Towel dry. Brush through again. Air dry.

I absolutely hate doing it despite it taking about 8 mins. If I had to straighten it it would never happen.

Fiftysoon · 09/04/2023 05:24

I swim most mornings so I wash it then if not I wash it during my morning shower. I don’t wash it in my night showers before bed I use a shower cap. I have very fine hair it dries really quickly. I’ve always washed my hair everyday and sometimes twice a day.

WandaWonder · 09/04/2023 05:30

I have long hair, I wash brush and tie back I just let it dry naturally

Sure it's boring but to me it is quicker to do than think about not doing it

ChillysWaterBottle · 09/04/2023 05:44

Haha same OP and I knew before you said it that you have thick curly hair. People just don't understand. It's the worst job and my arms always ache afterwards.

MyStarBoy · 09/04/2023 05:55

Your hair looks lovely and really suits you.
I feel your pain though as my hair is very similar to yours but a bit longer.
I’d highly recommend a satin night cap for very long hair as they really help to keep it smooth and very soft.
Less than £10 on eBay.

Dont get an undercut- bloody awful things and your hair/look is far too pretty for that.

leafygarden · 09/04/2023 05:58

savagelover · 08/04/2023 20:50

I did used to have about half of it thinned out, but new hairdresser is rather against thinning out hair. I've had keratin treatment before which was great, but only lasted 6 weeks and was ££.

Wow - time to change your hairdresser!!

THisbackwithavengeance · 09/04/2023 06:38

I am the same, OP.

Consequently, I go to the hairdressers once a week and pay £15 for a wash and blow dry. I hardly ever wash it at home.

Easy to wash your hair when it’s fine and dries naturally!

Divorcedalongtime · 09/04/2023 08:43

Mine is very fine so easy to wash and dry however long it is.
sayibg that I also hate washing my hair, more how it feels after. I hate how clean hair feels, all flyaway and static so easily.
luckily my hair is very dry so it doesn’t really get greasy either.

Roselilly36 · 09/04/2023 08:43

I get it, I wash my hair once a week, it makes me tired (I have MS)I used to go to the hairdresser but sometimes I don’t feel upto it. I never straighten it. Just wash and blow dry. My hair is quite long, MS nurse said it would help me to have it cut, but I won’t, I have given up so much because of having MS but I won’t have short hair, it just doesn’t suit me.
