Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

I've been to the Whitsundays 🤣 and the Galapagos, Takaka, Stewart Isl, and Rotto - no issue with the flies there, either, and the quokkas were very cute.

I'm going for

  • Isla Mujeres
  • Punta Arenas
  • Orkney

I'd love to get to the Falklands and Tristan da Cunha! Lucky people.

Have been to Kayakoy - lots of really interesting places to go in this part of Turkey though. So many people miss the best bits by staying in their resorts. We’ve stayed in Kabak a few times - a secret hippy commune on a beach only reachable by sea or if you can get a local resident to take you down the road by 4x4 or quad. Otherwise you have to hike down. It’s one of my special secret places! 😁

Have been to Providenciales, also Ocean Park.

Went to Yugoslavia before the war - we drove there with a caravan in the 80s and my dad was taken off for questioning at the border as they thought he might be a spy. Once in, we honked our horn every time we saw another British car, which was only about 6 times during our stay.

Timbuktu
Andaman Islands
Western Sahara

LunaNorth · 06/04/2023 09:21

I’ve been to Kapas Island, Malaysia.

LostInTheColonies · 06/04/2023 09:22

Percy Islands

Clearly far more exclusive than the Whitsundays, Magnetic Island, or Fraser Island (I had a job on a boat in that part of the world)

prettybird · 06/04/2023 09:24

• Castaway Island (Qalito), Fiji

• Mopane, Kruger Game Park, South Africa

• Haenertsburg (also South Africa).

My aunt lives in Haenertsburg, I chose one one of the lesser known camps in the Kruger and we spent a week on Castaway when I was a teenager (a looooong time ago Wink) on our way back from NZ.

I'll add in Exeter Game Park in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, which dh and I went to for our honeymoon and our 10th wedding anniversary.

talknomore · 06/04/2023 09:24

I've been to Halifax NS.

I've been to:
Green Gables Heritage Place on Prince Edward Island (Anne of Green Gables farm)
Murmansk in North Russia
Kanyakumari, the tip of India

I've not rtft but I'm mid long journey, scrolling with my breakfast, and I know I'll never catch up so:

Pangkor Laut while the resort was half built and we were the only guests (I was a cute 7yo and all the waiters waited our table each night and made a fuss of me)

Ocean Park in Hong Kong - hands down the best fairground park type thing imo (possibly through eyes of nostalgia) and now replaced by the egregious Disneyland. Boo.

Jiuzhaigou China

I remember Ocean Park- we would have Shirley Temples to drink which I thought was the height of sophistication in 1982!
Also been to Pankor Laut- wouldn't mind being there now...

MrsHamlet · 06/04/2023 09:15

I've been to Scunthorpe!

So have I @MrsHamlet . I've not been to Benidorm or Pontins Prestatyn though (we were a Butlins family mostly) so you can have those ones.

MerryHen · 06/04/2023 08:44

I think Hobbiton is the only place I've been to so far 🙈

I did grow up looking out to sea at Sealand though! You're not a pirate by any chance @RawBloomers ?

My three places are closer to home:

  1. Villach, Austria
  2. Thorpeness, Suffolk
  3. Lundy Island

I’m not, but my dad knew one and took me to visit when I was pretty young. (So he tells me, I only really remember bits of the boat trip).

According to MrsTerryPratchett, whose word is law on this thread, seeing the place from a boat counts. So presumably looking out to sea at Sealand also gives you bragging rights and my uniqueness is forever diminished!

Anonymouslyposting · 06/04/2023 09:25

Can I add Rangitukia in New Zealand? I suspect more people will have been there than my other ones but it was fantastic - we fed sting rays by hand and saw the first land sunrise in the world that day (they told us it was the most easterly land point in the world)

MandyMotherOfBrian · 06/04/2023 09:26

Love Ocean Park, I remember going there with my DDs and we thought it was amusing that (after us coming from chilly Britain) people were putting on massive parkas to enter the North Pole section at roughly 10 degrees - we thought it was a welcome respite from the heat 😁

LunaNorth · 06/04/2023 09:27

I’ve been to Ocean Park in Hong Kong! We went up a mountain on an escalator!
