If you were a child in the 90s, what book series did you enjoy ?

I can remember reading a series of books when I was around 10 and enjoying them, but I cannot remember them. It wasn't babysitters club or sweet valley high or any particularly girly books but I have a feeling there were maybe romantic books and maybe 'scary' books that each had their own series if that makes sense . Can you think of why I'm talking about or am I going nuts ?

I loved Paula Danziger. Was obsessed with her books - she came to our town and she signed every single one for me. She was absolutely lovely. Was gutted to read that she died in the early 2000s.

I had these too. Cassie was basically like a Sweet Valley Twin. Lydia was all politically engaged and Daphne was an introverted bookworm!

My favourite Point Horror was Teacher's Pet, about a girl on a writing retreat and a cat that kept on bringing back pieces of people.

My favourite ridiculous SVH series was the one where evil twin Margot dyed her hair and pretended to be Elizabeth. Such a far fetched storyline!

Beenhereageskeepchangingname · 02/04/2023 19:48

Ohhh yes

animorphs - loved that
sweet valley high
babysitters club
all the tamora piece books (actually re read some of them recently, who dosent love George the rouge.
lj smith night world books
I enjoyed the Wicca series as well when I got to about 14 - used to hide them from my mum because she didn’t approve haha

also a really random one I loved children of the new forest - very different to the other styles I used to read

Yes, I’ve still got Alison Albright! I loved the ‘split’ cover.

Omg! Blast from the past!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 02/04/2023 20:36

No Guns, No Oranges
The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tyler
Loads of Dick King Smith and Michelle Magorian

cardboardbox24 · 02/04/2023 20:49

Did anyone read a book called Say Goodnight Gracie? I remember being absolutely distraught reading it!

turtlemurtle1982 · 02/04/2023 20:56

I read all the rl stine books. Loved fear street and point horror. I used to read a book a night.

Ridingfree · 02/04/2023 20:56

No way. I think I got the first one free with Mizz or something similar. I had 3 books I think and they went from them getting their parts to being fully fledged soap stars.

Niftythrifter · 02/04/2023 21:03

Sweet Dreams books!

Niftythrifter · 02/04/2023 21:04

I’m thinking point horror and was there other point things like point romance etc? Is that maybe what you mean?

i used to read a series about friends who all lived on an island in Maine but I can’t for the life of me remember what that series was called, it had a Dawson’s Creek vibe.

I loved babysitters club and sweet valley twins/high

The teenagers on an island off Maine was the making out series 😍😍 I loved those when I was a kid and dh found the whole set in a charity shop and got them for me as a surprise .

Pretty much used to read what everyone else has already said but I’d like to add the author Paula Danziger to the list!

Oh I loved Paula Danziger too! Similar to Judy Blume

anon90210 · 02/04/2023 22:19

I'm so late to this but I absolutely loved point horror books. My friend used to get the audio books (cassette) and we would listen to them when I slept over at her house.

evtheria · 02/04/2023 16:01

I read Point Horror, but tbh I was so easily scared 🤣 I'd always regret it!

Loved:
Sweet Valley - both the middle school and high school books
Babysitters Club
Goosebumps
The Adventure series (Willard Price)
Nancy Drew/The Hardy Boys (not 90s, but when I read them all)
Animorphs
all the Tamora Pierce
Everworld
and there was an updated series about Barbie, where she went to an international college in NYC, I was very, very secretly into that.

Does anyone remember a high-quality hardcover series about girls from all over the world/different periods of time? Each book was a different girl and story, I seem to recall reading one following a girl living through the French Revolution and drinking hot chocolate for breakfast...

Yes! I think if the same series.. I read one with a girl during the Plague and another someone who went on Titanic.

Loved a bit of Sweet Valley. Found a Recap blog and never realised how bonkers some of the plots were back then but now....wow hahah. The one in their 30s also sounds interesting...

Starsnores · 02/04/2023 22:39

I was an avid reader when young. I used the love Enid Blyton, the famous five, secret seven and malory towers, then Judy blume and I remember the covers of those sisters books if not the stories. I then moved onto point horror and then went through a Stephen King phase.

I remember when I was in my 'I love horses' phase, someone gave me a series of books about a girl and her siblings who got into foxhunting! They all had titles with the word hounds in them I think? The thing is, I have always been very anti-hunting even as a child but remember reading these books several times and quite enjoying them!

deedeedelmonte · 02/04/2023 22:58

Sisters - it was by Marilyn Kaye and there were four books.
Paula Danziger
Judy Blume
And Nancy Drew
I also read all the Virginia Andrews...

NotAnotherBathBomb · 02/04/2023 23:00

I was coming on to say RL Stine. Funny, never heard of Point Horror but googled and see that he was one of the authors. I read what feels like all of his books, just wasn't marketed in the same way to us I guess. They were my faves!
