If you were a child in the 90s, what book series did you enjoy ?

I can remember reading a series of books when I was around 10 and enjoying them, but I cannot remember them. It wasn't babysitters club or sweet valley high or any particularly girly books but I have a feeling there were maybe romantic books and maybe 'scary' books that each had their own series if that makes sense . Can you think of why I'm talking about or am I going nuts ?

Aww I’m so glad other people liked Anastasia! I thought she was so cool😂

IceCreamWithSprinkles · 01/04/2023 23:12

I read all of the above, and a lot of Judy Blume!

I’m thinking point horror and was there other point things like point romance etc? Is that maybe what you mean?

i used to read a series about friends who all lived on an island in Maine but I can’t for the life of me remember what that series was called, it had a Dawson’s Creek vibe.

I loved babysitters club and sweet valley twins/high

Was it the making out series by katherine applegste. I loved it

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/04/2023 23:17

I loved SVH, any of those Usborne puzzle books, plus the books which you choose an action and you have to flick to a new page (Ian Livingstone?) and Tamora Pierce's Alanna series.

@Cakeandslippers I know which one your talking about, it was Nightmares rather than point horror, it was called Class Trip.

Impressive memory! I used to like Nightmares too, think I read these then moved on to PH. I still read loads now but would never choose horror these days!

TheEarlofButties · 01/04/2023 23:23

Oh god! Point Horror! I’m immediately back there wearing sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden, buying Forever Friends cards and carrying a tiny backpack!

Yes! The making out series, I think I got the first book free with a magazine and then was hooked.

Oh yes, I can recall any book I read as a teenager but I can't go to the shops without forgetting the actual item I went for!

We had the tiniest teenage section at my local library so I often used to take myself off to other libraries around the city to see what they had on offer. I remember we used to keep a reading list of all the books we read in English class, my teacher was impressed by the volume I was reading but was concerned they were all horror.

Mariposista · 01/04/2023 23:32

I loved the Ally's World Series by Karen McKombie.

burnoutbabe · 01/04/2023 23:34

Yes I loved making out and also got my first one free with a magazine!

I still have my Trebizon books. And sweet valley confidential.
freshman dorm was also a good series. And roommates. A bit more adult!

I also still have all my fighting fantasy books. With sone signed by the author!

mintich · 01/04/2023 23:38

I used to read Sweet Dreams (series of separate romance novels) Sweet Valley High, Sisters (series about 4 sisters) the Saddle Club, Point Horror, Nancy Drew, Malory Towers, Babysitters Club, Ramona, Judy Blume. Probably loads more I can't think of!

35965a · 01/04/2023 23:40

I loved Point Horror! They were amazing.

DivaDroid · 01/04/2023 23:43

My DD(12) has my old Babysitters Club, SVH, Nancy Drew & Anastasia books.
Bloody loved Anastasia. Actually, all of them - rereading them now Blush
Loved Point Horrors - my favourite was the one about identical twins, Madeline & Isabelle maybe

DivaDroid · 01/04/2023 23:49

It was Twins by Caroline B Cooney. Characters were Madrigal & Mary Lee

IceCreamWithSprinkles · 01/04/2023 23:56

I also vividly remember reading a series of books about teenagers with series health issues - one about a girl going blind (called the dying of the light I think), one about a girl with anorexia, and one that had me in floods of tears about a girl (a twin?) with cystic fibrosis, who I think made a book with her twin (and/or friend) but died before they finished…….I wish I could find the series!

magentastardust · 02/04/2023 00:11

I loved Anastasia Krupnik, I remember the covers and her huge glasses! I used to like an American series called Cheerleaders too. I read all the SVH and Christopher Pike books. Judy blume I used to love too. I also used to read my mums flowers in the Attic books too!

cardboardbox24 · 02/04/2023 00:20

@BobbinThreadbare123 the Tamora Pierce books were my all time favourite, and got me into the fantasy genre. Love love love that series, and still have them on my shelf!

Also Point Horror, Trebizon, Anastasia Krupnik, the cheerleader series and the Vampire Diaries...I just used to devour books.

BeautifulWar · 02/04/2023 00:22

Ah I loved Point Horror books! There was one, particularly excellent one, which introduced me to the concept of an unreliable narrator. I think it was about a summer camp where everyone gets killed till only two people are left and suddenly thr twist comes that the person telling the story is the killer.

This definitely was Class Trip! I couldn't remember what this book was called last year and created a post about it, funnily enough.

I was a big PH fan in the early 90s and tried some of the Nightmares books too. So many good memories of those times.

IHateLegDay · 02/04/2023 00:34

I've never heard of Point Horror! I feel like I've missed out 😂
I used to love Goosebumps and anything Enid Blyton

mozzierella · 02/04/2023 07:26

Anastasia Krupnik by Lois Lowry

I think this was 80s actually

Sorry

mozzierella · 02/04/2023 07:31

Good to see others liked Anastasia

also the worst witch series

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 02/04/2023 07:35

Loved all these series, particularly Trebizon.

fitfitfitsfitfit · 02/04/2023 07:50

Mariposista · 01/04/2023 23:32

I loved the Ally's World Series by Karen McKombie.

I remember them Grin

Remember I always wanted to be her sister Rowan who sounded so much fun. Can’t remember the names of her friends now but remember sisters were Lin (Linnhe), Rowan and Ivy and brother was Tor… used to adore those books.

also remember BSC and all its other associated series - especially the ones about Karen - and California Diaries that I read at 23 and thought were incredibly grown up!, compared to the BSC they probably were. Love reading BSC snark online now. Look back and wonder what everyone in Stoneybrook was on leaving a few 11-13 year olds responsible for their children!!

Also sweet valley, sleepover club and animal ark (I think?) and home farm twins.

fitfitfitsfitfit · 02/04/2023 07:56

Jacqueline Wilson’s earlier books were the other ones I devoured, loved the ‘Girls’ books but bitterly disappointed when they made a TV series and Ellie was neither fat nor wore glasses - nor did she look anywhere near 12-13 - meaning I could no longer relate to her quite so much 😂
