If you were a child in the 90s, what book series did you enjoy ?

I can remember reading a series of books when I was around 10 and enjoying them, but I cannot remember them. It wasn't babysitters club or sweet valley high or any particularly girly books but I have a feeling there were maybe romantic books and maybe 'scary' books that each had their own series if that makes sense . Can you think of why I'm talking about or am I going nuts ?

I still have many of the books mentioned here! Does anyone else remember the Sisters series?

I adored these!! I remember them so vividly, think I still have them at my parents house.

nowaworriedmumma · 02/04/2023 15:38

Point Horror
Sweet Valley High.

IceCreamWithSprinkles · 02/04/2023 15:43

Also just remembered the Jill pony books by Ruby Ferguson, and the Jinny books, and the Misty books where she won a pony in a competition…..I loved a pony book!

IceCreamWithSprinkles · 02/04/2023 15:46

I also read tons of books by Noel Streatfield

Toddlerteaplease · 02/04/2023 15:47

I liked the Trebizon books and the Sadlers Wells books. Does anyone remember The Bewitching of Alison Albright?

Yes, I’ve still got Alison Albright! I loved the ‘split’ cover.

I read Point Horror, but tbh I was so easily scared 🤣 I'd always regret it!

Loved:
Sweet Valley - both the middle school and high school books
Babysitters Club
Goosebumps
The Adventure series (Willard Price)
Nancy Drew/The Hardy Boys (not 90s, but when I read them all)
Animorphs
all the Tamora Pierce
Everworld
and there was an updated series about Barbie, where she went to an international college in NYC, I was very, very secretly into that.

Does anyone remember a high-quality hardcover series about girls from all over the world/different periods of time? Each book was a different girl and story, I seem to recall reading one following a girl living through the French Revolution and drinking hot chocolate for breakfast...

Robin Jarvis's the deptford mice trilogy was huge in our school when I was about 8/9.

LOVE!!! The Wyrd Museum (?) books totally captivated me, and the ones set in Whitby were terrifying but completely engrossing.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 02/04/2023 16:11

Another love of Point Horror (Dream Date being my fave) and Point Romance collections too. If they weren’t so expensive second hand I’d rebuy them for nostalgia.

AtSomePointInLife · 02/04/2023 16:11

The Kevin and Sadie series
Across the Barricades, late 80s we read this in school.

CandleInTheStorm · 02/04/2023 16:20

Does anyone remember Josie Smith? There were lots in the serious such as Josie Smith Christmas, Hospital, Seaside etc...

nowaworriedmumma · 02/04/2023 16:24

I used to like books by Judy Blume.

LauraIAm · 02/04/2023 16:36

I had totally forgotten these! Thanks for reminding me of them, among my favourites together with the Paula Danziger books.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/04/2023 16:58

Loved Trebizon and Paula Danzinger.

Did anyone read the Sisters series by Marilyn Kaye? They were great. I think my Frist literary crush was the boyfriend from Daphne.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/04/2023 17:00

Massive cross post due to crappy 4g!

I have only just realised, on thinking about it, that my DC share names with two of the Marilyn Kaye Sisters, so they must have made quite the subconscious impression.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 02/04/2023 17:13

I loved the Making Out series and was so attached to the characters. I liked the diary entries that were written in different scripts.

There was also a Making Waves series by the same author but it wasny as good

AnneShirleysNewDress · 02/04/2023 17:27

Point Horror, April Fools and Weekend were my favourite. Judy Blume. I also loved the Flowers in the Attic although they were not age appropriate.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/04/2023 09:27

Pretty much used to read what everyone else has already said but I’d like to add the author Paula Danziger to the list!

How could I forget Paula Danzinger. I loved The Cat ate my Gymsuit.

browbrows · 02/04/2023 17:32

The worst witch

Diorinthecountry · 02/04/2023 18:06

I absolutely loved sweet valley high and point horror. I didn't know you could get books where Elizabeth and Jessica are in their 30s. Will have a look for them.

I bought some point horror books from ebay not long ago and enjoyed them just as much as I did all those years ago.

Angus, thongs and full frontal snogging as a teen I remember CRYING with laughter when she waxes her eyebrows 🤣
