Anyone else really loving M&S recently?

Im 27, so not sure if it's just the fact I'm older now... or if M&S has become newly amazing in the last year or so.

I first went because I'd seen a thread on here about all the nice food, I'm very easily swayed by a MN rec it seems. Then wandered into the clothing and home sections and I just bloody love it! Even the clothes! I always find really lovely things in there and it really isn't as expensive as I thought it was.

I've just bought a load of bedding from there that's spurred me on to redecorate my entire bedroom. I feel like I've joined a cult! I can't get enough!

Is this a new thing or has it always been great? I feel like more people need to know! Please let me know any recommendations of things to try. I'll tell you some of mine to start.

Layered Mexican dip
Thermals (leggings and long sleeved tops & socks)
The candles! At Xmas I had a frankincense and myrrh one which was gorgeous.
The ivy jeans, the black ones don't fade.

Things that I've ordered that I'm waiting to arrive are:

'Just like down' pillows and duvet
Washed cotton bedding set in 'storm'
Period knicks

I'll report back! I have high hopes!

Also I promise I do not work for M&S. Although I wish I did as I imagine they get discount and nothing can be worse than NHS maternity service at the moment which is where I do actually work 😂

I like M&S too, but is it possible that as a lot of other shops stuff has gone to shit, it looks better in comparison?

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/03/2023 11:46

Nope. It's still full of clothing made from artificial fibres. I remember when the majority of their products were natural fibres.
DH is an M&S employee (not store based) and even with staff discount its difficult to find anything worth buying.

Since the COL crisis, my high street M&S is cheaper for a lot of basics than Tesco. And the fruit & veg is x1000 better quality.

I also like their jeans, underwear and a lot of the beauty/fragrance stuff.

leafygarden · 30/03/2023 11:51

Love M and S 😀.

I go regularly to just have a mooch around- food section / cards/ plants etc.

Recently got the French cheese platter thingie - 100 per cent worth the money!!

Bluevelvetsofa · 30/03/2023 12:09

The online service is rubbish. I’ve had no end of problems with online stuff and it’s not even that it’s delivered to the house, because I do click and collect to a food store. Often late, dispatched in several parcels.

I’ve ordered flowers as a gift, which have been poor and a couple of weeks ago, I ordered a gift box of brownies to arrive on a designated day, which they didn’t. I had to return a pair of jeans that arrived without tags and a ribbon in the pocket, which had been worn, then returned, so stock checking is poor.

Customer service is poor and impenetrable. I’ll go to the food store, but the nearest decent M&S with decent stock, is too far away.

Oh ... that platter!

If only I had a food hall closer I'd definitely be swapping out more Waitrose stuff for M&S as I think that their vfm and range has improved recently.
Clothes meh, apart from their trousers/jeans/jeggings which are always a perfect fit for me I don't see much to get excited about. Agree about the man made fibres, especially noticeable in their poor quality knitwear.

Timshortforthalia · 30/03/2023 15:11

I walked through one last week and was amazed by how many items of clothing I wanted to buy.

I also needed to get a non-wired comfy bra to wear post surgery. I’m not sure where else I would have gone, but i had loads of choice at M and S and the one i bought is awesome.

VictorianBathroomTiles · 30/03/2023 15:22

The clothes have got significantly better recently. Great jumpers and trousers and some nice dresses too.

coffeemoon · 30/03/2023 15:31

M&S is one of those things most people take completely for granted, but actually it's really good. If we didn't have it I don't know where I would buy underwear, PJ's, jeans, nice food. It's great really. My grandma loved it so I'm continuing her legacy 😂

soddingspiderseason · 30/03/2023 15:36

Their candles are excellent quality. And Rosie bras are also very lovely and not overly expensive as a nice treat. Kids uniform definitely the best quality for the price.

Deathraystare · 30/03/2023 15:36

Happy with the jeans and t shirts. Most of the dresses are that vile viscose shite.
Sometimes I get some food from there but not often.

Cherrysherbet · 30/03/2023 15:36

I love M&S food, it’s amazing. Would shop there all the time if I could afford to. My fave is the nutty salad they do.

The jeans are good quality and good value.

M and S is great to walk around at Christmas. I always buy foodie pressies in there.

Oh and the very best thing about M&S is Percy pigs 😁

MissyB1 · 30/03/2023 15:43

Love the foodhall! It has better choices and is definitely better value than Waitrose. I also buy quite a lot of clothes from M&S I’m going on holiday tomorrow and got my new holiday clothes from there.
I’ve been looking at their bedroom furniture as well.

Pourmeanotherwine · 30/03/2023 15:47

I miss M&S. Our city centre branch closed and I can't be bothered to get a bus to the out of town one very often. I used to get basics like underwear and work trousers there.

beakyboo10 · 30/03/2023 15:50

The boys clothing has been great and I always buy school uniform from there especially when the 20% offer is on. The mom jeans have been really good and super comfy. I buy it all online and have it delivered to our local food hall.

Hazelnuttella · 30/03/2023 15:54

It does very much sound like you work for M&S OP!

I have to agree though, the clothing has really improved in the last few years.

The cotton knickers however have become really poor quality. You don’t seem to be able to get proper cotton anymore, too much Lycra and very thin.

hippygirllucky · 30/03/2023 16:13

30 and recently discovered M and S, after thinking it was for old women before. Recently bought 2 pairs of jeans and love their plant based sausages. The bread section is really nice too! Now that everywhere is expensive I don't think the prices seem that bad any more.

Houseyvibe · 30/03/2023 16:19

Best shop on the high street by a mile at the moment. I’m buying nearly everything there

TempsPerdu · 30/03/2023 16:21

I think it’s basically that they’ve got a bit better, maintaining a basic level of quality, while many of their competitors have got an awful lot worse.

Their fashion offer has notably improved imo. I’d never have bought clothes from them a few years’ back; now lots of my staples come from M&S. I’ve spent a few days away this week in a different city, visiting a lot of high street shops, and M&S was the only one that had anything I was tempted by - it was a sea of creased polyester everywhere else.

TempsPerdu · 30/03/2023 16:23

Also, even DP, who has precisely zero interest in shopping, recently commented that M&S has improved while most other high street shops have deteriorated, so it must be quite marked!

usererror99 · 30/03/2023 16:27

Since I turned 35 I seem to live in M&S - LOVE the jeans - I've got loads of styles and lots of tops and sweaters. I find the quality good (for what you pay) and they always seek to have new things out on the shop floor

Freespiritwannabe · 30/03/2023 16:28

Me! I'm 37 and think M&S are the cats jammies

BebbanburgIsMine · 30/03/2023 16:50

I enjoy looking round Markies (as it is known as here)

I only buy something if I really like it, and if I can afford it as they're very expensive for me.

Having said that I bought a top for £30 which isn't cheap, and less than six months later it's developed a hole, so quite disappointed about that.
