Anyone else really loving M&S recently?

Im 27, so not sure if it's just the fact I'm older now... or if M&S has become newly amazing in the last year or so.

I first went because I'd seen a thread on here about all the nice food, I'm very easily swayed by a MN rec it seems. Then wandered into the clothing and home sections and I just bloody love it! Even the clothes! I always find really lovely things in there and it really isn't as expensive as I thought it was.

I've just bought a load of bedding from there that's spurred me on to redecorate my entire bedroom. I feel like I've joined a cult! I can't get enough!

Is this a new thing or has it always been great? I feel like more people need to know! Please let me know any recommendations of things to try. I'll tell you some of mine to start.

Layered Mexican dip
Thermals (leggings and long sleeved tops & socks)
The candles! At Xmas I had a frankincense and myrrh one which was gorgeous.
The ivy jeans, the black ones don't fade.

Things that I've ordered that I'm waiting to arrive are:

'Just like down' pillows and duvet
Washed cotton bedding set in 'storm'
Period knicks

I'll report back! I have high hopes!

There's loads of their clothing on Vinted at the moment. I'm currently a very poor student so I'm having a good look on there for some bargains

Do the PR department know you're out? 😁

I gave up on M and S clothes years ago when the only way to buy plain black trousers for short people was to order them online in various sizes and have them delivered and then return them to the store. I did venture into one before Christmas last year as I had some vouchers I'd been given but the only thing that had changed was that the fabrics were thinner and shinier.

Some of the food is okay but a bit pricey for what you get. A friend calls them Markies and it really annoys me, irrationally, they were always Marksies or M and S or the full name for everyone else I knew. Mind you, that friend just aggravates me generally so that's possibly part of it....

Several M and S stores have closed in places where I've lived (including Bristol of all places) and for me it's had quite an old fashioned blue rinse vibe for a long time now. I'm no spring chicken but the second I walked into most of the ones near me the average age of the shoppers dropped by 30 to 50 per cent....

Agree that its clothing competitors on the high street are even worse though.

@tiredpuppymum We're apparently not allowed to say we like M&S on Mumsnet without being accused of being their marketing people. 🙄

(Frankly, I'd start with Mint Velvet, Saint and Sofia, Me & Em and Sezanne if I was 👀👀👀 for product placement on MN, but there you go)

Gutted that they’ve discontinued the almond and vanilla hand cream, loved the smell and it was a decent consistency. I like that all the gummy jelly sweets are vegetarian but not overly keen on the clothes. Actually prefer matalan, similar quality but cheaper and good styles for us 40+ year olds. One thing I do love- big daddy bars, luckily the price stops me getting them often.

@NowZeusHasLainWithLeda oh I see haha. My actual job is causing me great stress at the moment and my colleagues are leaving in droves so the thought of working in a lovely shop sounds tempting! I'd also love the discount! Maybe I'll become an M&S influencer like that Instagram girl upthreadWink

Also I said I'd update on the things I ordered that hadn't been delivered yet and overall I'm pleased.

'Just like down' pillows and duvet are great. The pillows are huge though so you only need one which is odd as I'm used to having 2. Maybe they'll squish down though.

Washed cotton bedding set in 'storm' the colour is different IRL to on the website. It's more of a duck egg rather than a deep green. I was unsure at first but now I really like it and the bedding is fab quality.

Period knicks - haven't tried... due on in 6 days right at the beginning of my 4 night shifts so that'll be fun. I'm a bit worried about trying them for the first time at work because my uniform is white. Recipe for disaster.

No idea what you mean?

There was a poster long time ago going on about m&s in a slightly deranged way. Harmless but a bit weird all the same. Now whenever you ask about ms the "witty' all come out the woodwork .

I agree about the cost of food. They’ve kept theirs the same whilst others have increased, so suddenly they seem reasonable.

still not lidl and aldi cost, but not bad value on the whole. Especially their weekend meal deals, we had their fake nandos the other weekend. It was really good and I picked carefully so managed to stretch it to two dinners and a lunch. All for £15.

I'm too busy laughing at OP saying 27 is "older now" 🤣

Greenfree · 11/04/2023 12:00

I love their kids clothing and I like the few bits of clothing I have bought myself from there.

I love the food though! I often shop at Ocado and love that I get m&s food on there

Yes, M&S have really upped their game recently especially in the beauty department. So many lovely, reasonably priced cruelty free products especially under their own name.

Love a wander around the food hall too. Their sandwiches have always been addictive!

Some clothes and knickers are still a bit hit and miss quality wise, but overall I love M&S.
