Anyone else really loving M&S recently?

Im 27, so not sure if it's just the fact I'm older now... or if M&S has become newly amazing in the last year or so.

I first went because I'd seen a thread on here about all the nice food, I'm very easily swayed by a MN rec it seems. Then wandered into the clothing and home sections and I just bloody love it! Even the clothes! I always find really lovely things in there and it really isn't as expensive as I thought it was.

I've just bought a load of bedding from there that's spurred me on to redecorate my entire bedroom. I feel like I've joined a cult! I can't get enough!

Is this a new thing or has it always been great? I feel like more people need to know! Please let me know any recommendations of things to try. I'll tell you some of mine to start.

Layered Mexican dip
Thermals (leggings and long sleeved tops & socks)
The candles! At Xmas I had a frankincense and myrrh one which was gorgeous.
The ivy jeans, the black ones don't fade.

Things that I've ordered that I'm waiting to arrive are:

'Just like down' pillows and duvet
Washed cotton bedding set in 'storm'
Period knicks

I'll report back! I have high hopes!

Nope. It's still full of clothing made from artificial fibres. I remember when the majority of their products were natural fibres.
DH is an M&S employee (not store based) and even with staff discount its difficult to find anything worth buying.

This! Endlessly disappointingly. I think the style has got better recently and I do get more tempted by the displays, but I rarely buy after feeling the fabric quality and checking labels. Maybe I’m picky but I just like natural materials and for clothes to last!

I do like a few treats from the food hall and regularly buy basic cotton knickers.

AllInADay · 30/03/2023 20:43

Terrible colours, and they will take a decent looking garment and ruin it with a stupid flounce or frill. Their cashmere jumper ribbing at the bottom is too deep (therefore, too frumpy). Also, not enough Size 6's. Food is good.

Morningcoffeeview · 30/03/2023 20:44

I used to think M&S and next were for old folk, I’m 32 and love them both now.

Have I got older or have they got better 😳

I walked through one this week and was surprised by how lovely the clothes looked.

The clothes have got significantly better recently. Great jumpers and trousers and some nice dresses too.

This.

Love them, used to live next to a huge one and used often for fruit (head and shoulders above other SM)

Sons school shirts from there and stay white.

I get some lovely jumpers

And of course as everyone knows you can't beat M&S knickers

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/03/2023 21:02

I bought some work shirts for my DS , I tried other brands but the M&S were much better , non iron , always looked smart
Colours a bit limited but a nice range of striped/subtle patterns .

I need to take DD out for a work blouse buying trip , it'll be M&S .
I like their skater style dresses , stretchy , pull them on.
Some of the patterns are a bit "M&S" that you;ll see half a dozen people wearing the same thing ! And they seem very keen on animal prints .
They have trousers with annoying seams on the outside which put me off them.

I buy their non=leather footwear
Their own brand cosmetics , toiletries and cleaning products

I’ve recently overhauled my wardrobe after coming back from maternity leave, and about 90% of it is M&S. Good basic smart trousers, merino sweaters, well-cut t-shirts; all of it at decent prices. It’s getting the basics right again and I’m here for it!

ThePoshUns · 30/03/2023 21:15

I'm 51. Love their sportswear, jeans, dresses and shoes.

ThePoshUns · 30/03/2023 21:17

And their towels

TheaBrandt · 30/03/2023 21:21

The food is high quality we have a food hall v near by and even the teens notice when it’s non M&S food.

My gripe is all their clothes come swathed in layers of plastic. Other shops use just paper / card to post clothes. I have complained online but just get a word salad response.

Im inspired by the thread to go to marks soon

fetchacloth · 30/03/2023 21:27

M&S has definitely improved in recent years. 😊The clothing range is much better and the food hall is good value compared to most of the supermarkets with quality products.

The only downside is that the quality of the underwear is not as good as a few years ago. The padding used in bras becomes lumpy after a couple of washes and the knickers are so thin they're almost see through. I'm beginning to look elsewhere for these items 😐

Butteredtoast55 · 30/03/2023 21:51

I've sometimes struggled to keep the faith with M & S over the years but I am an absolute die-hard fan. I buy most of my clothes from there (or Sainsbury's) and they wash and last really well. I got a gorgeous coat from M & S in 2010 that comes out every year & still gets compliments. Their shoes and boots are especially good and you can't beat an M and S bra whether for sports, everyday or a bit of ooh la la! 😚

Noodle421 · 30/03/2023 22:08

Fabulous M&S in Gyle, Edinburgh. Everything well spaced out, thoughtful lay-out. Clothes categorised in groups. Easy to browse. No overwhelm. Large well-stocked food hall and on-site florist - seriously impressed

Lavender1974 · 30/03/2023 22:13

I have become obsessed with M&S clothes over the last year and they have become my go to (whereas before it would have been JL). So many items I love:

merino jumpers in various colours
wide leg jeans
boyfriend jeans
wide leg trousers for work
gym wear
chunky loafers
great blazers
two winter coats (one faux fur, one biker)
several pleated skirts
I love their linen mix t shirts- best t shirts I have by a mile and I have some much more expensive ones.
long sleeve thermals
kids uniform trousers
wool jumpers in various colours
side stripe casual wide leg trousers

Apologies for unnecessary list but I am enjoying thinking about my M&S stash. 😂
All so reasonably priced. I feel like I look pretty stylish these days without having spent a fortune. My DH gets most of his stuff from there too and he is very fussy.

shouldhavetakenmorenotice · 30/03/2023 22:27

It's got way better since Richard Price took over from Tesco.

I know a lot of people in the industry who consider M&S a well kept womens wear secret.

MeinKraft · 30/03/2023 22:36

M&S baby clothes are fantastic. Really good fit and quality, nice and soft for newborns. Actually their children's clothes in general are really good.

Do they still do that delicious lemon drizzle cake? My nearest is ten miles away but I would almost drive it for a slice of that cake.

I hope you got a good recommendation for something to go with your steak.

😂 I wonder if she ever did get a Christmas temp job. I suspect not - she was batshit!

lollipoprainbow · 30/03/2023 23:14

Love a mooch round after work on a Friday.
Got some lovely silver kitten heel sandals last week.

Layered Mexican dip

Should have got a pic of the side of the pot so you could see the layers but this is it!!! It's probably my favourite thing they do. Top layer is like a sour cream with cheese and jalapeños, then guacamole, then salsa. Bloody delicious!!!

No but just followed her! She's almost the exact height and clothes size as me too so that's really handy. Thanks!
