Am I out of touch or is this bordering paedophilia?

This person popped up in my Facebook suggestions.
After having a look it seems they are a 'steamy romance' author.
However, the subject matter of this post (and some of the 'enthusiastic' comments) made me feel like it's just wrong.
Admittedly I've not read things like this, also, I was taken advantage of as a young teen by a teacher so maybe I'm projecting but isn't it bordering/stepping into the lines of child abuse?

Oh for gods sake.

It’s spam.

It’s also clearly porn.

Why would you click on it let alone screenshot and post it?

FB is almost unusable these days with all the spam and ‘suggested’ posts.

BeLuckyy · 29/03/2023 07:55

No it's not spam.
It is a genuine author.

Yes and if you clicked on it, now all you’ll get is adverts for this kind of “porn” 🙈.

BeLuckyy · 29/03/2023 07:57

@Idratherbepaddleboarding
Luckily I didn't click on the post, I just viewed the profile.

Thats gross

Does mafia vibes mean as in the mafia?

NortieTortie · 29/03/2023 08:09

The author is serving a niche of romance readers that like big age gaps and an educational setting. They really have to nail it with the tropes to get clicks, hence it all being spelt out like that. There can be a lot of money in self publishing romance so often the author isn't into the thing they're writing about. Mafia has been big in romance for a few years.

It'll be stated frequently that the characters are over 18, no publishers would accept anything else.

I don't think any of them are paedophiles, including the (majority female) readers. It'll likely be a US college setting. The morality might be questionable but at the end of the day, it's fantasy smut and no real people are being harmed.

BeLuckyy · 29/03/2023 08:11

@Fluffodils I assume so.
@NortieTortie That's interesting, I find it creepy though.

What's ARC, FMC and br33ding? Or shouldn't I ask.

NortieTortie · 29/03/2023 08:15

ARC: advanced reader copy (x amount of readers get a copy, for free, before publishing in return for an honest review of the product. Helps boost visibility when it's published and it's always declared in the review they got the book in exchange)

FMC: female main character (in this instance, the student)

Br33ding: Breeding kink, censored for Facebook. Unprotected sex and pregnancy.

Ignore all the I’m so cool brigade, it’s grim.

NortieTortie · 29/03/2023 08:15

@BeLuckyy that's fair. It's not my cup of tea either.

Thedarkestblue · 29/03/2023 08:18

I don’t agree with this. As a society we would not accept racist movies and books on the grounds that ‘it’s fantasy and no real people are being harmed’ as we would understood creating, normalizing and enabling these attitudes through fiction does lead to real life attitudes and behaviour to people of Colour.

It’s the same with porn. Real life school girls do have to deal with real life harassment from adult men who sexual use school girls. I heard one girl speak who said the most sexual harassment she gets on the streets is when she is wearing her school uniform. Sexualising school girls has real life effects for school girls.

And we all know ‘ all are over 18’ is cover/ legal thing. Just like in the ‘barely legal’ mags. The guys are getting off at the thought that they are young girls.

Thedarkestblue · 29/03/2023 08:19

Just to add, I really don’t agree that things that are ordinarily considered not ok, become ok just because someone gets an orgasm out of it.

50Pence · 29/03/2023 08:22

Bit grim yes but it's just porn, and sounds fairly tame relative to a lot of stuff out there. I can't believe anyone is surprised this exists 😂

Believeitornot · 29/03/2023 08:24

It’s one thing for someone to have these fantasies in their head. Quite another to advertise and monetise them.

NortieTortie · 29/03/2023 08:26

@Thedarkestblue I don't think fantasising about being in uni/American college and sleeping with the hot, married professor can be equated to wolf whistling 16 year olds in uniform.

I find it more than a 'bit grim' tbh.
I can't really see why that's so funny.

Well I haven't actually read it so wasn't sure what the age range was, especially if it was American as a pp referred to above.

Yes, this

C8H10N4O2 · 29/03/2023 08:45

Of course its porn, porn to appeal to those who get their rocks off "breaking taboos" (aka perving over under age kids).

Is the author a regular "MAP" or just someone profiteering from them?

DahliaBlue · 29/03/2023 08:47

The picture shows school uniform through. So implication is school and under 18 rather than college. Grim.

tabulahrasa · 29/03/2023 08:47

Those porn style books are marketed at and predominantly read by women though... the kink is being the student not the teacher.

Just porn...

You think you're so cool but you have no idea. Porn does such damage.
