Am I out of touch or is this bordering paedophilia?

This person popped up in my Facebook suggestions.
After having a look it seems they are a 'steamy romance' author.
However, the subject matter of this post (and some of the 'enthusiastic' comments) made me feel like it's just wrong.
Admittedly I've not read things like this, also, I was taken advantage of as a young teen by a teacher so maybe I'm projecting but isn't it bordering/stepping into the lines of child abuse?

Just porn...

You think you're so cool but you have no idea. Porn does such damage.

Yeah I don't know why people are so accepting of porn like this

CountryCob · 29/03/2023 08:57

18 year old girls don't wear school uniform like that. I agree it normalises sexulising school girls, whether women or men read it isn't the point for me

Yes this seems to be true, I went back to check who the comments were by and it is predominantly female.
I find that weird too tbh.

it's fantasy smut and no real people are being harmed

I don’t agree with this. As a society we would not accept racist movies and books on the grounds that ‘it’s fantasy and no real people are being harmed’ as we would understood creating, normalizing and enabling these attitudes through fiction does lead to real life attitudes and behaviour to people of Colour.

It’s the same with porn. Real life school girls do have to deal with real life harassment from adult men who sexual use school girls. I heard one girl speak who said the most sexual harassment she gets on the streets is when she is wearing her school uniform. Sexualising school girls has real life effects for school girls.

And we all know ‘ all are over 18’ is cover/ legal thing. Just like in the ‘barely legal’ mags. The guys are getting off at the thought that they are young girls.

This. It's not harmless smut. It's grim AF. A generation ago it was relatively difficult to get hold of this type of material, you had to go to a physical shop or order it. Now it's served up and so more and more men are getting into it. When it comes to porn, there's emerging evidence that supply creates demand.

Grim on every level.

"Author writes creepy book oh no!"

This is far less creepy than the Flowers in the Attic which I read secretly in my room at the age of 14. It's porn, not porn to your taste but no real kids are harmed. I object to this far less than the miserylit of "real life description of autobiography of someone's awful child abuse". Put your pearls down.

Bit grim yes but it's just porn, and sounds fairly tame relative to a lot of stuff out there. I can't believe anyone is surprised this exists 😂

Oh we're not surprised.
Just repulsed.

I find people with ideas like pps tend to be so subjugated they no longer realise what normal relationships are. Or men.

It is a fantasy aimed at women who want to imagine themselves as young and innocent, its quite common for women to like erotica with that kind of theme.
It's not to my personal taste, but it really isn't harming anyone.
Previously the vast vast majority of porn and erotica was aimed solely at men, but self publishing has opened up the erotic novel space for women. Most of the writers and readers are women, if women aren't interested it won't sell.

Coffeeandcake15 · 29/03/2023 09:25

It wouldn’t be for me, personally I think school uniform should be left out of porn novels/films, in my opinion it just sexualises young girls.
Is it a female who has posted it?

Whatever name you attach to it, wrong on many levels.

Thedarkestblue · 29/03/2023 09:28

NortieTortie · 29/03/2023 08:26

@Thedarkestblue I don't think fantasising about being in uni/American college and sleeping with the hot, married professor can be equated to wolf whistling 16 year olds in uniform.

But you’ve made up that it’s college students. The picture is girls in school uniform. That’s how he is marketing the book.

Fuckityfuckfuck123 · 29/03/2023 09:33

I'd say so, but I think that being a CSA survivor skews my viewpoint a little.

I'd think the educational setting, big age gap, and power imbalance between teacher and student would all link to thoughts very close to paedophilia, but like I said, maybe my viewpoint is somewhat skewed

It looks like it’s a woman author as there’s a woman in the picture holding a book, also the poster said the comments on the book were mostly female.

Well said @Queenofscones

Porn is the scourge of our society. It has ripped marriages apart and warped this generation and beyond as to what to expect/ how to act. It is the only addiction you will never truly get rid of as it is cemented in your memories.

There is nothing "just" about this vile thing

It’s (probably very poorly written) smut. It’s by women for women it’s meant to be taboo. It’s not real. Are women only allowed to read about vanilla sex?

Now you are victim blaming the OP who was clearly puzzled to receive this suggestion.

I've had totally weird random suggestions - eg a type of wooden holder to hold my imaginary ammunition to load my imaginary gun much faster if I was going on an imaginary shooting spree. I will say that it was beautifully carved. I reported the post to Facebook who did not see it as a breach of their rules, I suggested it might be terrorism. I blocked the advertiser and have had nothing similar since then.
