Think I am upto a cuppa and chocolate time !

Silkierabbit · 28/06/2023 22:33

Welcome Cheezecake

Hope you can fix the washing machine Bizzey

Sorry your family stressed you out ZZ

Glad you had good day at work Lemons

Hope you had a nice anniversary meal MissC

Busy day here DD talking to me until 1.20am then she gets up at 6am to go to Oxford Uni for the day, I've just had a 2 hour breakdown of everything including how annoying she found a lot of the mothers. She looked round the course facilities and several colleges and really liked it. She got lift there and train back and now doing homework.

I had 3 meetings today including a home one then plumber / carpenter has been in touch and we've been discussing plans for kitchen and utility and he is coming round tomorrow. A meeting with cahms tomorrow. Collected 2 mattress toppers memory foam, one for me which have put on my bed - Floof was seriously impressed, mattress topper, taking bedding apart, a big box, what's not to love. Had a pizza hut meal as DDs favourite and not had one in a while. Currently washing bedding, the sheet and mattress protector. Floof is so trilly now.

Cheezecake · 28/06/2023 22:34

@MissConductUS English, I'm afraid. I can only say four words in Swedish.

mathanxiety · 29/06/2023 01:48

Havoc I am in IL. Apparently the visibility has been so bad thanks to the smoke that flights have been canceled. The sun is currently going down and looks like a blazing dayglo orange ball through the haze. The air quality warning ends later tonight. The heat dome currently scorching Texas will be our next atmospheric event.

Before I go to bed I need to wash the hummingbird feeder and refill it. They have managed to guzzle about 10 ozs of sugar water in less than a week.

Your deck looks so lovely and peaceful, MissC.

bizzey · 29/06/2023 02:07

mathanxity and all...I for you all with this terrible air pollution and smoke .ust be so difficult

And here is me moaning about my washing not spinning!

I hope you all get better air to breath soon x

bizzey · 29/06/2023 02:09

Words and letters are missing from post above 😂😂😂😀!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/06/2023 02:38

Oh, Math, how awful. I just heard on the news that Toronto currently has the worst air quality in the world with Detroit and Chicago in the top 5. The wildfire smoke back east is the worst ever in Canada. Just the mention of "heat dome" gives me anxiety. We had one June'21. I was pregnant and temp was 40c. I think we had 700 deaths here in BC.
I hope things don't get worse for you there. 🤞

Bizzey, careful - your washing machine news is bordering "exciting."

Welcome back, ZZ. A calm walk with doggo sounds good.

Silkierabbit · 29/06/2023 08:37

Bizzey Do you have the users manual for your washing machine, that would show where the filters are / error codes etc. If not if you know the make and model one might come up if you google. They can vary where they are on the machine though with an older machine might just be worn out. But ours stopped working other day and I said to DH about filters and he cleared that and worked fine again. I once did an internal repair to a washing machine and got it working again though its gone what I did.

Sorry to hear about awful pollution.

Just awake here and washing now in dryer. Floof was trilly and pokey for a game, had a quick game and has decided to go back to sleep on the upstairs fridge. That mainly seems to be a cat bed now. Carpenters coming round today and afternoon meeting. Having a cup of tea in bed listening to birds outside. Chickens are up.

MissConductUS · 29/06/2023 21:01

Good to see you back, ZZ. Didn't Benjamin Franklin say that houseguests are like fish, they need to be binned after a few days?

I met my new boss today and briefed him on what's going on. He starts officially on 1/8. He seems like an improvement, but time will tell.

On my first loop around the reservoir I saw mum and baby duck on the top of the spillway together. The second time I walked past I only saw the mum, panicked a bit, then spotted the little one climbing up the side of the spillway. Sorry for the poor image quality on the second shot. I didn't want to get too close and scare them.

Gosh sorry to hear about the pollution Math, these events are sadly becoming more common.
Silkie hope DD enjoyed her day in Oxford.
So Bizzey is there a cycle on your washing machine that's working now? They are frustrating appliances!
DS had his prom last night and a good time was had by all. I am stressing as he has been told that he must take Welsh Bac alongside the EPQ and he had hoped to study Maths Biology,Chemistry and ancient history until AS level but that looks as though it will be difficult now.
Mumtobabyhavoc we will have a day in Vancouver at the end of July. Any recommendations?

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 29/06/2023 22:46

very cute ducks @MissConductUS Only the one baby?

MissConductUS · 29/06/2023 22:58

Welcome, @ReleaseTheDucksOfWar, and thanks for sharing your fowl opinion. 😁

I think she had more, but she lost some to predators, or they got washed down the spillway. The water goes from there into a drainage tunnel, so if they get swept down by a swift current, they're gone. Other ducklings in years past have been lost this way. It's not shown in these pictures, but on the left side of the spillway, someone has piled up some rocks and soil to allow the ducklings to climb back up to the top. I'll get that in the next set of duck pics.

Sprouts, Off the top of my head: A bike ride around Stanley Park and the Seawall, a visit to the Aquarium while there; afternoon visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery; lunch on Robson Street. All easy without the hassle of needing a car. Near the cruise terminal I like ARC restaurant for dinner.

Silkierabbit · 30/06/2023 12:13

Hope new boss continues to be Ok MissC

Glad your DS enjoyed his Prom Sprouts Yes DDs school make EPQ compulsory and it can't be related to any of the subjects she studies though it can be related to a job or hobby.

Had cahms meeting yesterday but just same as before just me updating them what I've updated them on before. Floof has been very hyper, I was tired so after poking me and seeing I was tired he went to poke DD and I heard him being told off. Then she felt guilty and came to play with him, he had apparently been jumping on her when she was doing abdominal crunches. He is very trilly. DH has gone to work's office for an hour or two. Going swimming tonight. Cut down some plants in our lane last night. Was watching MH370 last night.

Silkierabbit · 30/06/2023 12:16

And the carpenters came yesterday to discuss revamping the kitchen so been discussing that, what colour to paint the units, what type of cooker and what colour etc.

MissConductUS · 30/06/2023 14:21

Silike, are you doing a full kitchen remodel? I'd love to do one too, but the expense and inconvenience are really offputting.

While walking this morning, I stopped to take a picture of the duck steps on the side of the spillway and saw the mother duck all by herself, which is quite concerning.

We completely re did kitchen at old house including making 2 rooms into 1 when the kids were toddlers, it looked wonderful afterwards but it took 2 months. This kitchen we have isn't that big, old one was big, this is like a galley kitchen but our house is listed so we can't alter things too much though its still manageable as we have a second smaller room. The main part has a custom made built in wooden kitchen a carpenter has made which fits perfectly but it's wooden and now looks dated. The worktop height is also a few cms too low for fitted appliances and cooker one of the two ovens now doesn't work. So we are planning on new worktop, new ceramic sink, units heightened a few cms and painted pale blue and dishwasher and fridge installed and new Range cooker installed, just a small 60cm one. I hope it won't take too long, we hopefully can just give them that part of house and we stay in rest of it and we have a fridge upstairs and can take a few appliances upstairs. I have to decide whether to get a cream cooker or a red one. Cream is the sensible choice but for some reason I have a strong desire for dark red though DH says cream.

Silkierabbit · 30/06/2023 15:03

I keep thinking it will be much cheaper as keeping units but I bet will get a shock when I see the quote. 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/06/2023 15:14

Just waking up here... well, woke up coughing a half hour ago amd now lazing chatting to Havoc who is saying, Crow!Crow ! and looking out the window. 🥰 Need coffee....

Silkie, I'm voting red!!!

I think I'll make blueberry pancakes and a latte. Looks like a lovely day here. Canada Day tomorrow. No plans, but weather will be good, so will go to park. We gave lots of parks with water features for the kiddos.

Havoc is now saying, Good morning, over and over. Learned this yesterday. Guess I'm getting up. 🤷‍♀️🥰☀️

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 30/06/2023 16:31

Oh dear, poor Mama Duck. The ducklings are so vulnerable :(

MissConductUS · 30/06/2023 16:41

I'm just about to go out for my lunchtime walk, so I'll have another look.

Unfortunately, we're back in the Canadian wildfire smoke, so it's not a great day to be outside.

@Silkierabbit

Well whatever paint colour you use it cannot be as vile as ours in the reception lobby! Bearing in mind it is a mental health unit, someone went for a pale light blue and slightly darker door. It looks grim and miserable, will look gray in the wintertime! Should be a much more cheerier colour. Our reception is a rather nice yellowy green. Real spring like. but that blue!

Deathraystare · 30/06/2023 18:33

@Silkierabbit

Sorry I am saying cream for the cooker too. A nice classic colour!

Silkierabbit · 01/07/2023 00:48

Thanks Havoc Good choice. DH has now switched his choice to red but DD has come in with cream and then looked at me and said I chose the wrong choice didn't I? 😂I said to DH it might look like the British flag though but a lighter blue then DH said it will be the French flag. Though currently the walls are yellow and tiles are white. White tiles is fine but don't think we can have the French flag kitchen and yellow walls. I bet when the worktop height gets raised we will need new tiles too. Can see this getting expensive.

MissConductUS · 01/07/2023 19:07

Silkie, for me it would depend on the shade of red. A fire engine red would be too much, but a dark red or crimson could be quite nice.

The posh Italian supermarket has live lobsters on offer for $6.99 per pound, thanks to the holiday weekend, so I got some this morning. I'm taking a day of annual leave on Monday, and Tuesday the 4th is Independence Day, so I have a four day weekend.

There was no sign of the duck or duckling yesterday. When I arrived home last night there was a large stag in the front yard. He saw me move inside the house as I was getting my phone and jumped over the wall just as I took his picture.
