What a palaver, Silkie. I hope they all sort themselves out and remember there's a real boy and his family at the centre of all this.

Floof looks gorgeous.

MissC is there any chance Mrs Duck is sitting on eggs? I want to move to the Hudson Highlands too. I'd be no trouble.
Hope you escape the storm currently hitting the northeast. You too ZZ.

We had a spell of snow, sleet, and hail earlier today. DD3 set out to bring a returned item to the UPS store but turned back as she was being hit in the face by hail five minutes into her walk. It was sunny but cold when she set out.

MissConductUS · 23/04/2023 02:01

Math, you are right, she could be at their nest with some eggs. They had ducklings last summer. The Hudson Highlands stands ready to welcome you.

We got the first of the storms, and a tornado was reported about 40 miles west of us. A downpour started as we were cooking on the deck, which was a bit of a challenge for DS, but he got dinner done nonetheless.

There are downsides to living in the woods. We have two trees just off the deck that are not sprouting leaves and appear to be dead. Our tree service bloke came by this morning and confirmed that they are now a threat to the house and should be taken down. He's very good and we've used him many times in the past, so we trust him, but the work is going to cost us $1,100. The bloody trees can be an expensive nuisance.

Thanks everyone.

Trees can be expensive MissC, we had to pay £700 to do work on 2 trees when we moved in though I love trees. Used to love the weeping willow most as a child.

Hope you feel better Lemons

Floof has been incredibly trilly, infact he maybe trying for the Guiness Book of Records, around midnight he rushed up trilling to me then had a cuddle went off trilling, played a game of ball trilling, went to Dd trilling, then dh trilling and this continued the whole night. We had pancakes and dh brought me a salmon one then Floof trilling appears in a flash then he trills and goes to see dd for her pancake. I heard one whimper from him tonight so went to find him, he was fine but me checking on him made him super excited and trilly again, he leapt and ran trilling all round the house and jumped on dh. Dh is totally converted to Floof, Floof woke him around 5am for a game of ball, dh said no Floof, Floof poked him again then dh spent the next hour throwing balls to a trilling Floof, exercised them both. 😂

Chickens coop was cleaned out and roses cut back. Dd did her punting job. Ds ate fine and took a bath.

IWanderedLonely · 24/04/2023 07:07

Roofing work finished. Now waiting for different men in hi-vis to take the scaffolding down.
Been in a grump all weekend, not sure why, probably overtired.

NancyJoan · 24/04/2023 10:33

Good morning. Greetings from soggy, soggy South Wales. I can't get myself in gear this morning, but have just booked some sessions with a hypnotherapist whose waiting list I have been on for ages. Won't see him until July, but fingers crossed.

Am looking forward to a trip to London on Thurs to see Paul Mescal in A Streetcar Named Desire. Sneaky midweek day off from work feels like such a treat.

MissConductUS · 24/04/2023 18:52

We had pretty epic rain Saturday night into Sunday afternoon, about 1.5 inches in total. This was very welcome as it had been so dry that there were brushfires in our area. Hopefully, the lawn will perk up now.

NancyJoan, your theater excursion sounds like great fun. Streetcar is classic American theater. I love Tennessee Williams.

We finally have a leading candidate to replace my colleague who left in February. We've done all of the interviews over Teams and she's coming in today for the in person meetings.

I cleaned all the rugs and carpets today (yesterday now as I've woken up at 4.00.a.m. and can't sleep). It was epic as it's usually an annual job but had run over to 18 months and they were very grubby.

There's something sporner-like in pouring the inky black muck down the drain. Very satisfying.

Or is it me?

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 25/04/2023 01:49

The rain finally arrived here too MissC. It’ll be good not to worry about wildfires for a while but I’m keeping a nervous eye on the basement for flooding. We have a sump
pump that only fails when DH is away, and of course he’s away this week.

Silkie, I’m belatedly catching up and am so pleased your news is getting better.

Totally with you on that.

mathanxiety · 25/04/2023 02:42

Nice work, echt. I remember gasping at the colour of my rugs after they had been cleaned a few years ago. Current Dcat has an incurable habit of scratching rugs, so they're rolled up in storage.

DD3 made coffee blondies after dinner and I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Hope your basement stays dry, ZZ.

Deathraystare · 25/04/2023 07:52

@Silkierabbit

I also used to get on a tube with a loop and sometimes it wasn't my fault that I got off the wrong stop as they often put the wrong info up! I do get sleepy on the bus though (I have Narcolepsy) so sometimes get off wrong stop. Not good if my rheumatoid arthritis is playing up in my knees and I have to walk back from the wrong stop!).

Deathraystare · 25/04/2023 08:05

@IWanderedLonely

There may be only one tulip but it is a gorgeous colour!!

Well supposedly on Sunday, everyone should have got an alarm on their phone. This is a warning . Flood? Nuclear attack? Who knows? They were testing it out. I heard nothing but at that time I was in work and we have no reception there. Well...I work on reception but the phones have no reception!!! I was late into work. My alarm went (usual wake up alarm which I usually turn off before because I am awake). I turned it off. Thought nothing of it. Eventually got up in shock at 7am (my work beginning time if on early shift). I tried to ring several times to work but it claimed it did not recognise the number. I tried the number of a friend who gets up early. Zilch. I then what's apped her to ask her to ring work and explain that I would be late. The guy on the desk misheard and thought she was the South Duty Doctor saying they would be late (even though they do not come on until 17.00 hours), so my friend has got promotion and is now the South Duty Doctor!!

I got into work and hours later found the techie genius porter (whose brother had been on the desk) and he sorted out my phone. He also had to sort out the printer this morning which refused to print my cruise trip- documents! Going to Norway in May!

I spoke to the genius' brother and said he should work in IT but should still work as a porter here part time for my benefit when technology confuses me!

WanderingaboutwithaYorkshire · 25/04/2023 20:03

The weather has been dull, actually it’s been monumentally wet, I apologise to anyone on holiday near Dover, yep, me and DH decided to try and go away for a few days, a bucket and spade holiday by the sea (a bit round the corner from Dover) - it’s very well known to not go anywhere near where we go on holiday as it always rains! Got here a couple of days ago to lovely sunshine and then it disappeared, so I’ve read my book, slept, had fish and chips, read more of my book, sewed a little, and slept some more. Hoping to get out tomorrow and wander the local town and maybe just maybe take a flask of coffee to the beach with our deckchairs in the afternoon (and my bucket, yep approaching 60 and have my own bucket and spade!).

in nature news, I saw the most delightful display by swallows, in their hundreds, they were swooping, diving and dipping right over the cottage and the field beyond. Not sure what it was all about, was just before dusk and they’ve not been seen since.

HelenaJustina · 26/04/2023 06:51

Hope the change has been as good as a rest Yorkshire the weather is certainly most un-spring-like. It’s freezing at work as we only have a north facing window in the office and the heating is no longer on.

MissConductUS · 26/04/2023 20:12

We've had lots of birds on the feeder, including quite a few woodpeckers. It's still getting very cold overnight, so I guess they need the extra calories. I've had no recent sightings of the ducks or the crane on the reservoir.

DS is going back into the city for work tomorrow. They are hosting a happy hour to thank everyone who put in so much extra time working up to the tax deadline. I think he's of two minds about it. He doesn't love the commute, but he knows he needs to reconnect with people. As usual, we will drop him off and pick him up at the train station to save him the $4 parking fee. 😀

Our candidate to fill the open job at work has accepted our offer. Now we have to wait for the background check to happen. That may be days or weeks. They seemed to go a bit bonkers with it during covid, asking for high school transcripts and the like. I'm hoping the process is back to normal.

Popping back on !

My uninteresting news over the week has been so uninteresting even for this thread 🤣 but loving hearing everyone else's news .
But....
I did make a mince and onion pie this evening ...almost from scratch!

Made a lovely filling ,but used ready made pastry ...but I still had to put it together , beat up an egg to stick the pastry where it is meant to go and cook it ,so that is nearly from scratch 🤣!

Miserable weather here down south .
Still got more grouting to clean but just can get the " oomp" to do it when it is pouring with rain ☔😞.

Plus I have had alot of medical admin to do for DS and DM .

Out all day tomorrow for medical stuff for a DS .

And keeping my fingers crossed for another DS that his online job interview goes well 🙏.

bizzey · 26/04/2023 22:31

MissC ...i think I would have just given one of mine the $4 than be a taxi ....but then I am lazy 😀

HildaTablet · 26/04/2023 22:39

It’s been a bit cold and miserable here too. We’re highly amused by our latest garden visitor, a pheasant who seems to have adopted us.

We had one a couple of years ago who used to come and skulk about with his little friend, a partridge, but I think this is a different one as he’s much more habituated to humans. When I went out to throw down some suet sprinkles for our nesting robin, he lurked nearby then came up and scoffed them. Then he spent the afternoon marching round the garden calling loudly. I managed to get a picture of him in mid-stomp.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 25: Calmly through the day
sproutsandparsnips · 26/04/2023 22:40

Just catching up!
I hope things continue to improve and they see sense Silkie.
Hope you are feeling better Lemons.
NancyJoan greetings from my part of South Wales! I was planning on going to London to see a friend next week but we have, on the spur of the moment decided to both go to Cardigan......
Busy evening today. I have been to work but DS2 has played a rugby match and then DS2 and DH have been to see the seniors in their semifinal cup match which they lost!

sproutsandparsnips · 26/04/2023 22:40

Ooh love the pheasant Hilda!

bizzey · 26/04/2023 22:58

You all have lovely animals coming in your gardens .

I only have a cat who uses it for toilet needs and ....1 magpie today 😮😯😒!

I greeted him , saluted him and asked how his wife was !
🤣

Silkierabbit · 26/04/2023 23:43

Good your roof is finished Iwandered Hope you feel better.

Thanks Sprouts Hope you have a lovely time in Cardigan.

Thanks ZZ Hope the basement is OK still.

Nancy Hope you had a good trip today to see the show.

Lovely pheasant Hilda

Glad you found someone for work MissC

Tuesday we had two organisations round the house to do "assessments" that's all these organisations seem to do as once they finish assessing they need to spend money so they never finish. I told them DS would not like it and after 20 minutes DS got so distressed by them (they were nice and mean well) he started kicking the wall and made a 1 metre hole in it. 🙀Never done anything like that before. I can't say I blame him and at least it got the message across he doesn't want people round the house. And it seems to have got through. They are finally backing down from their plan of sending everyone round our house. Which is an improvement but shame they had to stress DS out so much. He's slowly getting back to being OK again. Had 3 meetings today to discuss plans and they are finally listening after the hole incident. And the discharge meeting is tomorrow, he was supposed to be discharged tomorrow but two of the organisations are saying they need longer but hospital said a max of 2nd May. He does not go back anyway and all agreed on discharge to home and that he's much better here. Yep we could have saved almost a year. A special school got in touch to say can't meet needs based on what LA had sent so now I have to establish what on earth they are sending. Though it would suit them if all schools say no as it would save them loads of money.

Floof is super trilly. DD is revising for mocks.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/04/2023 06:45

Hi all
Am catching up slowly.

Aww Silkie your poor DS . Yes be interesting to see what the LS have sent through as why are they doing this because they were/are in the wrong?

Beautiful pheasant but be mindful Hilda pheasants will disturb and destroy flower beds by burrowing in them.

Am feeling better but still not 100 percent,

DS and DH not wellHave taken DS to doctors a few times due to him being poorly with bad cough and lethargic he also held his wee for a couple of days eventually weeing after like 8 hours.

He then developed a raised rash this rash has got worse - the doctor said viral but to moisturise it when dry. I felt the rash wasn’t and was quite bad. Yesterday it started weeping and became very sore. Took DS back to doctors ( yes I became demanding for once as we had no appointment) and he is now on antibiotics due to a skin infection.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/04/2023 06:54

Your poor dh and esp ds! Sounds awful! I hope both recovery quickly. 💐

halfpasteleven · 27/04/2023 07:09

Some people should not work with vulnerable people @Silkierabbit. I'm really hoping they back off from your DS now and that he gets his education sorted in the best way possible for him.

Really wishing that April will warm up for the final few days... what a cold month it's been
