I have just been to a reunion dinner at my former university which was nice, drinks on the Fellows lawn and then dinner in the old hall. It was very nice and DH came too. We took DS back this afternoon before it and stay overnight at Hol Inn tomorrow and then get DS back on Monday. Picked DD up from work on way back she had been serving the dinners at another college. Ridiculous number of meetings next week re DS, its the most bureaucratic and inefficient system but they let me kick anyone out of the meetings who annoys me. 😂Quite a few people fall into that category with the things that have happened to DS.

Gosh woke up today to Floof on top of me, gosh he's a heavy boy and his tail was all over my face and it was like death by fluff though a lovely way to go, he's 8kgs at the moment and eating like an eating machine. Guess what he's currently doing.

Dd is off to an Elton John concert which seems very middle aged to me. But should be good.

Wanderingaslonelyasacloud · 16/04/2023 00:07

Can I join in?

year four still shielding pretty much. Long story. Life is very quiet.

had my parents to dinner. Made up a dinner of chicken with bacon, thyme and garlic with small roasties and green beans. Red berry fruits with a dairy ice cream for after. We all enjoyed it.

then we played a couple of games and DH won and was very happy. It was nice to see people in real life.

my yellow tulips opened today, yesterday was really hot and today was soooo cold I bet they wondered why they opened up. Looking forward to the weekend as it’s supposed to be really warm. (Just outside London).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/04/2023 02:40

@Wanderingaslonelyasacloud your dinner sounds delicious. I'm always happy to read about what people cook. 😋

silkie, I bet Floof was trilling happily!

My dinner turned out (yea, polenta!) and I am happily savouring each bite of the tiramisu. Havoc is being treated to raspberries with a bit of the mascarpone and whipping cream mixture. His hands and face are covered. 😂

AussieKoala01 · 16/04/2023 03:50

Just finished a lovely roast chicken lunch with DH and DS and now they are outside playing and being all cute while spending some quailty time together.
Meanwhile I'm inside and planting my butt on the sofa to watch an episode of a Kdrama I started watching earlier on in the week. I may well indulge in some easter chocolate and a cuppa while swooning over all the pretty boys in the drama as well 😉

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/04/2023 08:35

Love the orange hard hat on the high vis man MissC.

Havoc I took to putting DS on toilet/potty for last few months last thing and have taken him into the toilet with me when I go for a wee sometimes (DH does the same) so he can see what happens. He now has a potty in the living room and I am picking up his cues for when he wants to use the potty. No specific method but no pull ups. No putting you DD on potty to get her used to is isn’t bad.

that said havoc children tend to go about 30 mins after food. I also blow bubbles to relax him

Hope your dinner went well Silkie.

Doing slow cooked lamb for tea tonight.

MissConductUS · 16/04/2023 10:53

Welcome, @Wanderingaslonelyasacloud, and thanks for sharing your calming news. Of course you can join in, all are always welcome. Your chicken recipe sound fab. Bacon makes everything better. Feel free to post a picture of your tulips if you like.

Silkie, I haven't returned to my old uni in many years, but I think it would be fun. It's also not that close. I'm surprised they let you kick out anyone who annoys you in those meetings. Bureaucrats are usually not that accommodating. Eight kilos is a truly massive cat.

We had thunderstorms in the forecast last night, so we couldn't cook out. The men made chicken piccata again instead, which we had with pasta. We'll do burgers on the grill tonight.

It's still quite early here (I think it's a four hour time difference currently), so I will spend half an hour on the stationary bike and then get organized to go to church and the supermarket for a few things.

Potty training was ruined for me by DC1. They had a wee on the potty before their bath one Thursday evening, woke up dry on Friday morning, did a big wee on the potty and didn’t look back, no accidents, no training pants. We went to messy play in a village hall 5 miles away that day, and did a weekly food shop. Completely ruined the potty training experience for me and the other 3DC as it was always going to be so much worse by comparison!

When I decided to do it/thought they were ready, we just went for it. Didn’t chop and change between pants and nappies, except nappies at night time until they were dry 5 nights on a row. All 4DC were trained by 2yrs 7months. I did have to wait for a school holiday for the younger two as I did block out a few days to stay at home until they cracked it (the longest was my youngest which took 3 days).

I’m jealous of the tiramisu, I’m really the only fan in my house so never make it. I think we are all ready for school/work to start again tomorrow, no Sunday night dread/drama yet…

Silkierabbit · 16/04/2023 21:15

Welcome, @Wanderingaslonelyasacloud,

Everyones meals sound lovely.

We are at Holiday Inn just been swimming 100 lengths again and dh did too. Just getting dinner now. Free breakfast and free drinks. Will miss it here. Yes I was surprised to MissC but think they need to make it work and they also realise they were awful at the start.

That looks delicious Silkie!
I am going to a school reunion in June and very much looking forward to seeing people again but it will just be lunch in the old school hall I think!
Potty training was a pain Lemons. Daytime not too horrific but neither DS was dry at night until 6 years and 8 years respectively........

Silkierabbit · 17/04/2023 18:44

Thanks Sprouts Collected DS today and they said we don't have to return him ever, section to be lifted on 27th at cpa but he's basically discharged now.

Hope you have a lovely reunion with school. It was very posh there, most are public school boys and I'm from a very ordinary comprehensive background though I love all the dressing up but I did put my water in the wrong glass then had to try and move it. 😂

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/04/2023 19:16

Wow Silkie that’s amazing re your DS. Am so pleased.

I am so tired ended up teaching all day today. Was busy but fine.

Childminder got to me today am concerned as she says DS doesn’t talk with her much aside from mummy and daddy. He does loads of talking at home continually with putting words together. I dunno what to do.

Deathraystare · 17/04/2023 19:24

@Silkierabbit

Wow that looks nice but glad I have nothing to do with school reunions! Hated school from the minute I got there to the minute I left!

My work mates know how daft I can be but I topped all expectations yesterday. As I left work I saw a bus at the stop so I shuffled along as only someone with rheumatoid arthritis can and managed to get on. Yippee I thought. Then noticed the bus going on a different route. Very cross, no announcement of a diversion. A woman got on asking if it was going to Edgeware Road. Yes the driver replied. What!! Why the hell would my bus be going there???. I turned my head to see that the single tier bus had an upper deck! Yep on wrong bus!

I got off and couldn't find the opposing bus stop so walked around the corner. I saw a 31 come along. Oh great I thought I can get off at White City (well just before). Nope, this bus was going to Camden (other way!!) . So I crossed the road but had just missed one and a number of other buses when I realised that if I stayed there I would not be able to get the 7 or 70! In walking back I missed both those buses!

I still managed to get home by 9pm (left at 8pm) but it does not normally take me an hour to get home!

I had also forgotten and thought it was Monday and that I would be late for MAFS Aus (yeah I know I could have watched later on E4+1 but I was all worked up!

Tonight I will not panic as I can get a choice of bus home!!!

Silkierabbit · 17/04/2023 19:27

Thanks Lemons

Sorry about your DS, mine was like that though used to sing I'm going to nursery so appeared happy there (went part time). I think his was an autism flag. It can also be anxiety or both. If he appears happy at childminders would leave him there but might be worth getting on list for autism assessment as its several years long and schools now deny help if you haven't got one, didn't used to be like that but sadly has gone that way with funding cuts.

Silkierabbit · 17/04/2023 19:31

Death I hated school as well though loved university. There were only 20% girls so everyone was very nice. 😂

I used to have a route home with a loop in the underground and when half asleep on return would sometimes go down the wrong part of the loop which was super annoying. There was nothing you could do other than go back as the loop was so slow.

mathanxiety · 17/04/2023 20:34

Fabulous news about DS, Silkies. They owe you a massive apology, but you won't ever get one, I suspect.

Our weather changed from the sublime to the ridiculous overnight. I hadn't paid enough attention to the weather forecast over the weekend to shut my bedroom window before hitting the hay, and when I woke this morning I realised the reason I felt so chilly was that it had snowed. Winter coats all round for the family today.

Prok - great to see you back.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/04/2023 20:34

Sprouts, Helena, Lemons: thanks for sharing potty training info.
Silkie: I'm so happy for your son, you and family. Are you going to miss your swims etc at Holiday Inn, though? ☺️💐

The last of the tiramisu was had at lunch. I'm such a glutton when it comes to dessert, though and have been eating it at lunch and dinner for three days. 😛🤷‍♀️

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/04/2023 20:43

I think with DS is a great communicator without words. He will take you by the hand for anything he wants . He has the words to say what he wants but doesn’t. He does seem to speak his own language at times I mean not babbling it’s more than that. I think maybe try and get a speech referral might be an idea.

Wanderingaslonelyasacloud · 17/04/2023 22:01

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I obviously need new glasses because when I went to photograph the tulips there was only 1. So here’s my 1 tulip and my fabulous Euphorbia that DH hates and I love.

we were late home from the appointment today, maybe get some news tomorrow, so dinner was a frozen Sainsburys steak and ale meat pie, I actually really enjoy them, DH eats just the filling and leaves all the yummy pastry. Years ago I used to teach in industry and we took the course delegates to the local pub and had pie, with chips and gravy, my mum always said chips with pie and gravy was wrong, I just love pie with chips and gravy so this last year I’ve chosen to ignore her and have chips and gravy with the pie if I want to. (I’m approaching 60, lol).

DH bought me a very special craft kit for my birthday and tonight I am reading the instructions. It’s very beautiful and I don’t think I’m good enough to start it yet so I’m going to practice some of the intricacies this summer with a view to starting it properly in September.

I’m enjoying reading all your posts, they enables me to switch off from the whirl of life.

That euphorbia is magnificent, Wandering!

Silkie, how wonderful that you have your boy home. But what a catalogue of utter disasters they’ve put you through. I can’t imagine how you’ve coped with it but you’ve been amazing getting to this point with everything else you’ve had to face on top of it.

It was a lovely, sunny and quite warm day today and I got out into the garden to do some much-needed weeding (haven’t been able to tackle it thanks to Covid and a bad back, which may be linked). A robin was very interested and kept flying down to perch on the edge of my trug, eyeing the worms I was bringing to light. Eventually he just started flying down to rootle around a few inches away from me. I really like it when robins are so bold. We feed them anyway and they wait outside the back door for their rations of suet snacks.

Having a haircut tomorrow, thank god. I feel like a Shetland pony in need of a trim. My faithful hairdresser of over 20 years has been forced to close her business thanks to the effects of Covid, insane rents and even crazier energy prices. She just couldn’t afford to keep going 😢

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 18/04/2023 01:10

Cold and wet here. We got the patio furniture up from the basement yesterday so I suspect that's what caused the weather reversal :-)

IWanderedLonely · 18/04/2023 07:19

Silkies so glad to hear that DS is home permanently.
In Hi-vis news we're having some overdue work done on our roof. 3 men in Hi- vis are doing this. They've gone for yellow. They also drink tea like there's no tomorrow and each have 2 sugars, going to cost me a fortune in sugar Grin. They never ask to use the toilet - do they have a bucket?

echt · 18/04/2023 09:26

I had my chimney swept today (not an euphemism) as pre-winter prep.

I forgot he only takes cash Hmm so he'll be back tomorrow, at which point I'll remember to shake his hand for luck. Which I also forgot.

MissConductUS · 18/04/2023 14:18

Lovely pictures and flowers, Wandering. What a thoughtful birthday present from your DH too. I'm a few years older than you and long ago ignored what my mum thought about what to eat. I do still use her fab mac & cheese recipe, though.

Hilda, prices for haircuts here have gone up sharply, even for men. I think it's less supply and more demand now that covid is largely behind us.

Iwantdered, when we had our roof redone a few years ago the workers brought their own coffee and snacks. I can only assume they hopped over the stone wall and went in the woods if they needed a wee.

DS was up working until 1:00 AM this morning, but today is tax day so he should be winding down. I only know this because I got up to use the loo and heard him going to bed.

I saw one of the duck couples back on the reservoir this morning. I hadn't seen them for a week or so. I'm glad they are still with us.

Got my haircut. Phew. Bonus men in hi-viz working on mysterious holes in road outside.

I just took DH to the station to catch a train into London for an evening event. A lovely indulgent solitary night of trash TV and even trashier dinner awaited me.

Then he rang me and confessed that he'd got the date wrong, it was actually tomorrow and he was on his way home 🤔
