Up yours, Gillian Keegan - teacher pay offer.

£1000 this year one-off payment (unclear if taxed?)

4.3% pay rise for experienced teachers from September, (well below inflation), 7.1% for newbies, presumably to meet their £30k manifesto promise.

Fuck all on Ofsted
They'll set up a "Workload TaskForce" (so fuck-all on workload).

The £1k will be funded, they reckon schools can afford the 4.3% next year (hah) so will only fund 0.5% of it.

NEU have strongly recommended that members reject.

Appalling.

Waitingfortaco · 27/03/2023 18:45

Just been in the Zoom. Pretty poor IMO. And not fully funded which is my main issue.

Hercisback · 27/03/2023 18:45

They can do one.

Rejected.

Do they think we're stupid?!

How are they affording their 'workload task force' and what are they paying them? It's nonsense. They need to look after the teachers they have and listen to what they're being told. It's an awful offer. In fact, it's hugely insulting and dismissive of the huge importance of having good, happy, healthy teachers.

MrsHamlet · 27/03/2023 18:46

That's a no from me

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/03/2023 18:46

I will reject. As Toast would say, they can fuck that offer sky high.

Insulting.

Perfect28 · 27/03/2023 18:46

Big fat no.

toomuchlaundry · 27/03/2023 18:47

Whatever they offer has to be funded

ladybee2 · 27/03/2023 18:48

Just voted. Rejected!

Piggywaspushed · 27/03/2023 18:49

Post the graph on difference in pay between home countries, if you can noble.

Parents with DCs at schools near borders ought to be very worried about teacher recruitment and retention.

All parents would be livid really at how little regard their children's teachers are held in.

noblegiraffe · 27/03/2023 18:49

Oh, and because the NEU recommended that its members reject, that means the offer has been withdrawn and we get nothing.

Hi hi hi ho it's back on strike we go.

Matildapower · 27/03/2023 18:51

Utter joke

PotKettel · 27/03/2023 18:51

I think the NEU should hold the line. The £1k will be taxed (otherwise they’d have said £1k net of tax).

Im not a teacher but I wouldn’t agree to this offer. It’s pathetic on workload, and ignores the systemic funding issues, which aware both a huge part of the problem.

Disco2023 · 27/03/2023 18:52

My friend works in a school that is making support staff and one teacher redundant because they can’t afford it on current budgets. Some children will lose support etc. How do they find any money to find partial or full pay rises. It’s disgusting. Fight all the way….from a knackered NHS healthcare worker.

noblegiraffe · 27/03/2023 18:53

Here you go, piggy.

A teacher on top of the pay scale could earn £12k more in Scotland from September. That's fucking ridiculous.

Why do the Tories not value education?

LSA who spent this morning sellotaping together Biff Chip and Kipper books from 1986 because we can't afford up to date ones. Not sure where the payrise will come from given our projected £80,000 deficit this year.

Strike all the way.

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 27/03/2023 18:55

Horrific. As a head, my budget has been completely annihilated by the recent un-funded pay rises..any more and simply do not see how i will manage. We have pared staff back to the bone and it is genuinely hindering the quality of education we provide.
Disgusted with this government and long for the day we get a skilled, knowledgeable Education Secretary who knows what schools are battling and gives a shit, as opposed to someone dragged in at the last moment or who sees the job as a stepping stone.

SeanMean · 27/03/2023 18:55

Such an insulting offer 😡

I’ve already rejected!

LolaSmiles · 27/03/2023 18:57

It's an awful offer and I don't blame NEU colleagues for rejecting it.

JanglyBeads · 27/03/2023 18:58

They do value education.... that's why they pay for it for their kids...

It's just another facet of how selfish and uncaring and distant from so many many people they are.

All unions get a vote on it. All union members can vote 'fuck-off Gillian'.

LolaSmiles · 27/03/2023 19:01

I'll check my email then as I haven't seen anything yet.

It'll be a no from me.

WGACA · 27/03/2023 19:02

I haven’t had an email or text yet either.
