Up yours, Gillian Keegan - teacher pay offer.

noblegiraffe · 27/03/2023 18:44

£1000 this year one-off payment (unclear if taxed?)

4.3% pay rise for experienced teachers from September, (well below inflation), 7.1% for newbies, presumably to meet their £30k manifesto promise.

Fuck all on Ofsted
They'll set up a "Workload TaskForce" (so fuck-all on workload).

The £1k will be funded, they reckon schools can afford the 4.3% next year (hah) so will only fund 0.5% of it.

NEU have strongly recommended that members reject.

It's so insulting. I've voted to reject it. I can't really afford to strike again, but I'm not prepared to continue under the present conditions.

Didgerydoo · 27/03/2023 20:47

Retention is what you want not people who will leave, long term professionals not teach first rubbish.

How insulting

I've voted to reject.

It's totally offensive.
The unfunded but it absolutely shocking.
I agree @noblegiraffe
Money aside they could have at least tried to show they had listened about workload, but it's all falling in dear ears.

twinkletoesimnot · 27/03/2023 20:53

*the unfunded bit is totally shocking

Matildapower · 27/03/2023 20:56

This and the Ofsted debacle, and people wonder why we’re striking

neitherofthem · 27/03/2023 21:08

A "Workload TaskForce"? How much is that going to cost, one wonders?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/03/2023 21:13

Apologies - I misread the offer. I thought it was £1k plus the 4.3% this year, not next year.

Yeah - for soooo many reasons, that's not worth the breath they used to offer it.

Nothing, they can just recycle the Workload Agreement and the Workload Reduction Toolkit and Teacher Workload Survey and not actually do anything.

Just blatant disrespect.

The government haven't listened at all, not to teachers, school leaders, governors or parents.

I am so, so thankful that my DC’s are older. Worry about children today. Education is a mess.

@InsertSomethingMotivationalHere
Totally agree. Without funding this will annihilate any last reserves I've managed to cling onto in my budget and it'll be redundancies without a doubt. Need is rising like a tide in our schools and capacity and energy to address it is being decimated. Why isn't this being taken seriously?

Clarabellawilliamson · 27/03/2023 21:28

It's an insulting offer. I am currently NASUWT, we don't have an NEU rep at school. I'm giving them 2 days to contact me with information about reballoting before I move to NEU regardless. They are not making our voices heard.

Interesting that some people have heard from them today. I have heard nothing!

They emailed me the survey earlier this evening!

Meredusoleil · 27/03/2023 21:34

It was around half six time.

MrsHamlet · 27/03/2023 21:35

Some areas were close to the line with the NASUWT so I think they're looking at reballoting those first.

Clarabellawilliamson · 27/03/2023 21:35

I've triple checked my email @Meredusoleil and nothing!

Have you had all previous emails from them? Have you checked your junk/spam folder? Maybe they've not got your correct email address on file?

MumOf2workOptions · 27/03/2023 21:36

This is outrageous
Reaching out to all teachers!

Fight for better ❤️

Clarabellawilliamson · 27/03/2023 21:38

Yes, I get regular emails from them. Nothing since Friday!

Yellowdays · 27/03/2023 21:42

I think that the amount matters, as well as % , because it's a cost of living issue. So, for example, MPs got 2.9%,, bringing the overall salary from £84,144 to £86,584 from 1 April 2023. And teachers start from a mi h lower salary, but cost if living is not less.

noblegiraffe · 27/03/2023 21:45

I've not seen a single positive response to this offer anywhere.

Not even a 'better than the nothing I thought we'd get'.

They seem to have managed to personally insult an entire profession.

Did they mean to?

Everyone I’ve spoken to is appalled by the offer being unfunded.

Yes this. I feel insulted. Worthless. UPS3 and the value of my pay is so much less than it was. Plus lunch duties are now expected daily rather than paid when we did them. So an actual pay cut on top of the real terms one.

and today I received a request from above to do Easter school…. for free. That shipped has well and truly sailed.

The difference between our pay and wales is an insult. The difference between our pay and Scotland is heartbreaking.

Ca58 · 27/03/2023 22:48

They ThemJugs
Simple answer is neither Scotland or Wales have a Tory govt. And yes our nurses have also been given a better deal

MakeMineABourbon · 28/03/2023 06:35

Why would anyone want to come into teaching when it’s clear the government don’t even value the teachers they’ve got?

Woken up staggered that our unions have even put that deal to us.

I’m giving NASUWT 48 hours to announce a re-ballot on striking, otherwise I’m switching to neu.

I urge those people who didn’t vote/strike to do so this time!
