How much did you pay towards your child's wedding?

One of my children is getting married and this is a first for me. I am going to offer money towards it, and wondered how much. Me and her father are not together. I know many people will say, it depends on what you can afford, but I'm just trying to gauge what would be the norm, as I have no idea what her Dad will offer, nor the grooms parents. Cost of wedding is Circa £11k. Taking place Spring 2025, so plenty of time to save.

Is this a thing? my parents didn’t pay anything 🤔

My parents couldn’t afford to give us anything towards our wedding, same with dhs parents - we knew that from the start, we didn’t expect it & we paid for it ourselves.
My parents ( and brother & sister) helped us in other ways ( which I preferred) doing the flowers, decorating the church, favours etc and dhs dad helped us set up the venue, sorting tables & chairs, putting lights up etc.
We really appreciated that and that meant more to us.

My mum paid £12,000 for my sister's wedding. Groom's parents paid for the morning suit hire.

A colleague gave his daughter a couple of thousand towards her wedding, but told her if she wanted him to wear a new suit it would have to come out of that money.

I worried about this as I have 4 daughters. I'm 42. My parents saved monthly from when we were born so I've done the same. I save £20 a month for each of mine in a high interest account and they can choose to spend it on a wedding or big holiday or furniture. I plan to save it until they are in their 20s. Each to their own might not be for everyone but really appreciated it. So doing the same.

25k
Worth every penny

My parents paid for mine (roughly 10k) but I was their only daughter, we have 3 dds and can’t afford 10k each. £5k is more doable so this thread gives me hope.

We paid for their weddings, we had set up a wedding fund when they were born, which we put money into each month.
