The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

Rishi Sunak's Government has just published its list of ministerial interests.

Included: Sunak's relationship with his local community pub

Not Included: Any real details of his own financial investments, or his wife's shareholdings.

DuncinToffee · 19/04/2023 12:02

After 18 months with no public update to the List of Ministers' interests, finally it appears

Incredibly fortunate timing that it lands 10 mins before PMQs, 2 days after an ethics investigation was launched into the PM's declarations....

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/04/2023 12:17

I hope some of the MPs have got hold of it.

PMs, Sunak is digging himself holes left right and centre. He hasn't got a fucking clue.

If that letter from Raab to the judges about the lack of prison places is actually causing judges to suspend sentences, he needs to be sacked. He won't be though, the level of integrity is beyond the bottom.

At least we haven't had much change in who ministers are in the last 18months...

DuncinToffee · 19/04/2023 12:23

Nice of the speaker to make it clear that MPs will NOT be allowed to mention the parliamentary investigation into Rishi Sunak at PMQs

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/04/2023 12:24

Dvid Davis can fuck off with his first do no harm. The reason the junior doctors and nuses are striking is because they are so badly paid there aren’t enough of them because nobody wants to do the job due to low pay.

Operations have been cancelled due to lack of staff, those in the profession know they would possibly do more harm by carrying on as usual. The government who have the opportunity to fix this couldn't give a fuck, hence the strikes.

How fucking dare he.

"If that letter from Raab to the judges about the lack of prison places is actually causing judges to suspend sentences, he needs to be sacked. He won't be though, the level of integrity is beyond the bottom."

Does his letter refer to a vast number of prisoners on remand? That some prisons are almost full of those on remand - many held over the statutory 6 months. Because that is connected to the 60,000 court case backlog. No wonder they are closing courts - they've broken the system.

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 13:39

"Dvid Davis can fuck off with his first do no harm."

Do no harm.
Shouldn't this apply to MPs and Ministers? David "That's not my Brexit" Davis.

I've read on MN multiple times how we should be worried about bankers etc moving out of the UK if we raise tax levels.
Funny that the same posters seem less than worried about medics taking their highly transferable skills & taxes out of the country.

valadon68 · 19/04/2023 14:25

If anyone's interested, Ernest Moret has been released, but his phone and work laptop have been seized, and will be searched, and he has been summoned to a hearing next month. He has been interrogated about his views on Macron and has been asked to identify 'anti-government' authors published by La Fabrique. The initial story about his arrest has been investigated by the BBC and the Guardian, so I think definitely fair to worry about this development, which, if only provoked by his participating in anti-pension reform protests, is extremely disturbing.

Info from another press release written by the French publisher, attached.

@Notonthestairs this was a story not so long ago, of a drug dealer getting away with a prison sentence because the "prisons are full"

www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/cannabis-dealer-spared-jail-partly-8308365

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 15:27

Interesting. Thanks secretmumoffour.
Article also references that the original raid was early June 2021 and there was a long delay getting to court and if he had been prosecuted quicker he'd probably have gone to jail - and that the prisons are full.
Quite a revealing snapshot really.

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2023 16:42

I know, right? I mean, fancy all those public sector workers actually wanting to be able to buy food and pay their rent! So greedy and unpatriotic, they should just go out and hunt their own unicorns, then make a palatial tent out of the skins.

You forgot that many should remember their job is a vocation and having a vocation doesn't mean you should want money to live and enjoy life.

The difference is that doctors and nurses are actually useful whereas gamblers are not.

Please do not discuss the underfunding of the justice system, it offends some posters, instead concentrate on British Pakistanis.

Thank you.

Excellent point.

Or how Brexit meant we lost a huge number of our care sector workers who did an amazing job as they were happy to be given the chance to live and work in the uk.

Money is what rich people have and need.
Public sector workers are poor and so don't need money.

Rishi Sunak set to toughen small boats bill to avoid right-wing Tory rebellion, insiders say

twitter.com/singharj/status/1648690797779320835?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Suggestion is that they will ignore interim injunctions to stop removals to Rwanda.
Attorney General has rowed back on her initial legal advice - safe in the knowledge that it will never be published.

It's not like they might need something to distract from the Sharp & Raab reports or anything...

Is this honesty, integrity or accountability?

AdamRyan · 19/04/2023 19:45

I wonder if the conservatives have decided its less damaging to get the Johnson/Raab stuff published and Sunak to appear to be decisive, than to leave it hanging until after local elections?

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 20:08

Absolutely agree they want to get it out of the way before May.
And then announce another push to get asylum seekers to Rwanda to give the right wing papers something to print - regardless of the fact that the policy is impractical, unworkable, expensive AND that the Lords will intervene before then.

Raab was an early supporter of Sunsk and essentially his bag carrier during last summer's leadership election campaign. I suspect Sunak will bring him back as quickly as he can get away with.

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2023 21:04

Just watched PMQs.

Why does Braverman always laugh at insults at lawyers being lefties. Has she forgotten that's what she is?!

Roussette · 19/04/2023 21:38

This is going to go down really well... and before the May elections...

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/apr/18/channel-4-announces-partygate-the-true-story-docudrama

The broadcaster said the programme would contrast “the revelry inside the nation’s seat of power with the hardship and sacrifice experienced across the rest of the country”.

I can only assume she no longer considers herself a barrister.

That said there are obviously legal goodies (the solicitors & barristers advising Johnson/Raab/Sharp/Patel/Zahawi etc, Buckland deciding the Government is free to break the law in a "limited and specific way" etc etc) and the baddies (the Bar Council, the Law Society, Judges and any lawyer who pursues a judicial review).

itsgettingweird · 20/04/2023 07:26

Ah yes.

Limited and specific.

And

Where reasonably possible.

I forgot that's the rules we ran our country under now 🙄
