The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

And you forgot the poor pot plants Sad

Is "fucktastrophy" a word?

@AdamRyan I have zero sympathy for that man. He's happily colluded for over a decade with the slash and burn of council funding, the withdrawal of support for the poor and disabled and the systematic starving of funding in health and education. He can fuck right off with his article.

Oh really? I don't know him, just found the scathing rejection quite amusing.

Well I guess if people like that are turning away from the Tories they really do have no hope!

'Trussterfuck' is now so I would say yes.

Interesting that Amin skates over the two most significant Conservative policies of the last 13 years - austerity & Brexit.

newnamethanks · 18/04/2023 17:31

Trusstastrophe? Everything's completely Kwartenged.

pointythings · 18/04/2023 18:05

@Notonthestairs that is exactly the point I was trying to make. Amin was perfectly happy with Brexit and austerity. He didn't mention Windrush either - because that wasn't affecting his community. He's a hypocritical POS and he needs to shut up and be ashamed.

He's certainly clinging to the idea that Cameron/Osborne were cozily "socially liberal and inclusive".

🚨

scoop from top @FT colleagues:

  • BBC chair’s position in balance over ‘grim’ conclusions of draft report
  • one person briefed….said the criticisms made it “probable but not certain” that Sharp would have to resign as BBC chair

Report likely to come out next week.

Raab's bullying report likely to be published next week too.

I thought the reason the report into Johnson's lying wasn't being published yet because local elections, surely the same might apply to other reports into the government's corruption as well?

Roussette · 19/04/2023 06:25

Has everyone received voting cards for May? I am assuming there are no elections where I live because I've received nothing. I googled to try and find out and couldn't!

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 07:08

Yes we've had our cards for a few weeks.

Roussette · 19/04/2023 07:17

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 07:08

Yes we've had our cards for a few weeks.

Thanks. We obviously don't have local elections then, because we've not moved or anything.

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 07:31

"I thought the reason the report into Johnson's lying wasn't being published yet because local elections, surely the same might apply to other reports into the government's corruption as well?"

Good point. But I thought as the reports are findings of facts and do not necessarily recommend next steps or provide a verdict etc they can still be published.

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/04/2023 08:49

We don't have local elections here. I checked after not receiving our cards and the information was on the councils website. We didn't have them last year either.

Roussette · 19/04/2023 08:54

I think my council website is a bit flawed, it was very hard to see, but I understand there might be some re-drawing of boundary lines

More worrying news on the inflation front. Inflation (CPI) remains above 10%. Most analysts had expected it to be lower by now.

Worse, food price inflation is at its worst for 45 years- since 1977. (19.2%) Devastating for Britain’s poorest.

lInfation in the UK the highest in the G7- by some margin (latest figs for each)

UK 10.1%
France 6.6%
Germany 7.8%
US 5.3%
Italy 8.1%
Canada 4.3%
Japan 3.3%

I know, right? I mean, fancy all those public sector workers actually wanting to be able to buy food and pay their rent! So greedy and unpatriotic, they should just go out and hunt their own unicorns, then make a palatial tent out of the skins.

Angry

Joseph Rowntree Foundation: “The cost of food risks perpetuating this crisis long into the future, as families are increasingly unable to provide what they need to be healthy – regular, nutritious, cooked meals…It is a moral outrage that fresh food is increasingly out of reach.”

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2023 11:34

& somebody(30P etc) will complain about obesity levels.

DuncinToffee · 19/04/2023 11:51

I saw a post that said due to inflation it's now 33p Lee

it's depressing, baby formula being security tagged and/or kept behind counters, food banks running on empty
