The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

They're all colourwashing themselves in anything but true blue. Cowards.

I'm willing to predict that my MP will not go yellow.

Mines certainly not swerved away from anything but far right Tory.

Braverman never will.

She has too short a memory. She's a lawyer yet attacks lawyers for being lefty wokerati.

My favourite comment from someone on her Fb page lately has been

"Congratulations Suella. You've made Priti Patel look like Mother Theresa" 🤣

There could be a change itsgettingweird

There's been a flurry of recent media appearances and interventions from Suella Braverman after months of hiding from the cameras.

In other news, she faces a selection battle with fellow Conservative MP Flick Drummond on Wednesday for the new seat of Fareham and Waterlooville.

Yes we were surprised she wanted the Fareham seat and not the other seat that includes the areas of Fareham she usually frequents for cakes and sailing photo OPs!!!!!

I would LOVE Drummond as our MP. I may not agree with all her politics (she's a Tory after all!) but some of her ideas align with mine.

Plus she's actually nice and Braverman..... well ..........

Ah that provides some context. I was surprised to see her do the Sunday shows.

They'll issue the same denials come November when the new entry/exit procedures are finally implemented. Unless they reduce capacity people in cars will have to wait much longer.

Blossomtoes · 03/04/2023 17:54

The colour washing is intriguing. It’s interesting to see this weekend that our MP - who’s normally so invisible we might as well not have one - is dabbling in the Auriol Grey appeal. What’s particularly fascinating is that local feeling is very much against her so this won’t win him any votes.

She does seem to have got some of the usuals excited by her hot air about Muslim gangs attacking white girls this morning as well.

I cant take anything they annouce related to law and order seriously until they also address the funding of the legal system underpining it all. No point throwing money at one area unless you are willing to increase support for the corresponding allied areas.

This is an old report - 2020 - but I don't think the issues have changed.

"In 2017, the Institute for Fiscal Studies calculated that in the decade from 2010/11, the Ministry of Justice’s (MoJ) budget would be cut by around 40%. Spending plans have been revised upwards since then, so that in 2019/20 the total MoJ budget was only around 25% lower than in 2010/11.

The distribution of funding across the various stages of the criminal justice process is important. In November 2019 the Public Accounts Committee warned of potential “downstream impacts” for courts, prisons and probation services if extra police officers were recruited. It concluded it was “far from certain” that these services were sufficiently resourced to cope if caseloads increased.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Max Hill QC, called for a “thematic approach” to criminal justice funding in evidence to the Justice Committee in December 2018. He said it was important “not to create a bulge in one part of the system, or still worse a blockage in another part of the system, but to resource all parts equally so that they can meet an increase in demand.”

I imagine part of that is aimed at our local electorate.

We are sadly not a very diverse area.

Judging by the responses on another thread it seems to be working.

Roussette · 03/04/2023 19:28

Seriously, it is even worse than the usual threads.
A particular classic earlier was a number of posters complaining about the vilification of Braverman, because it is right for her to vilify people.
Its a thread about Braverman taking on muslim men because they are bad.

Roussette · 03/04/2023 19:52

I had a look, that was enough for me, it really was. Well done @jgw1

I'm afraid it's too close to home for me and I will end up a mixture of raging angry or upset, so best I avoid....

Apparently the UN Convention of Refugees applies differently in the UK to every other country because I don't understand how UK laws are made.

I've stuck to being quite sensible and factual.

AdamRyan · 03/04/2023 20:40

I've just got annoyed by FWR refusing to vote for starmer because he "doesn't know what a woman is"
Based on him saying his position is trabs rights shouldn't overrule womens rights

I know wedont discuss trans stuff on this thread but it's like turkeys voting for Xmas again. Just like Brexit

I'm GC for the record but also not an idiot who thinks a party of Braverman, Rees Mogg and Johnson will be good for women

Blossomtoes · 03/04/2023 20:41

Same @AdamRyan and I’m sick of doing battle with them. One particular charmer told me I was privileged because I’ve never been raped the other day.

DuncinToffee · 03/04/2023 20:55

I read that thread earlier, gave up when they mentioned Braverman being villified.
You scare them jgw1

I thought about posting a link to an article from 2013 where Starmer was calling for it to be a criminal offense not to report child abuse but decided it would be a waste on that thread.

Humour is wasted on the thread.
I do like the post that says that asylum seekers are the legal subset of illegal migrants. My mind is boggled.

IClaudine · 03/04/2023 21:00

I just read a bit of that thread. I won't be venturing on to it. I saw that subset nonsense, jgw. Talk about twisting reality and facts to suit your agenda.

Evan jgw can't make that thread amusing. It is really nasty.
