The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

I've just got annoyed by FWR refusing to vote for starmer because he "doesn't know what a woman is"
Based on him saying his position is trabs rights shouldn't overrule womens rights

I know wedont discuss trans stuff on this thread but it's like turkeys voting for Xmas again. Just like Brexit

I'm GC for the record but also not an idiot who thinks a party of Braverman, Rees Mogg and Johnson will be good for women

That's how I feel, which is a real shame because there are important issues being raised on that board,

Evan jgw can't make that thread amusing. It is really nasty.

I'm trying, I have upped my game a bit in the last hour.
I think we are all now agreed that Braverman is a left wing momentum member due to her love of whataboutery.

Notonthestairs · 03/04/2023 21:15

I find the dogged refusal to acknowledge that it's been 13 years and that probably long enough for them to addressed issues before now.
Ideally of course they wouldn't have made them worse.

Notonthestairs · 03/04/2023 21:22

Suella Braverman wants to make it a legal requirement for professionals with safeguarding responsibilities to report suspected child abuse.

Turns out Keir Starmer called for something which looks remarkably similar 10 years ago.

www.theguardian.com/society/2013/nov/04/child-abuse-keir-starmer-prosecute-professionals

In an interview with BBC1's Panorama programme to be aired on Monday, Starmer says: "I think the time has come to change the law and close a gap that's been there for a very long time. I think there should be a mandatory reporting provision."
Starmer says Britain should be brought into step with countries such as the US, Canada and Australia, where it is a criminal offence for care professionals not to report child abuse allegations to the authorities.
DofE rejected it saying it was not the answer and could leave children more vulnerable. Wonder what has changed...

Funding promised to develop the social care workforce in England has been halved, the government has confirmed.

In 2021 the government pledged "at least" £500 million for reforms, to be spent on training places and technology over three years.

But that figure is now £250 million, according to the Department of Health

Notonthestairs · 04/04/2023 08:41

So the "refreshed plan" is missing lots of key areas -

"There has also been no mention of the previously announced £25 million to support unpaid carers or the £300 million mentioned in the white paper to integrate housing into local health and care strategies."

Don't get old or ill.

I would really love to have "behind the scenes" access to MN records - very curious how many people are posting under multiple user names 😶that's apropos of a thread with users reminiscent of other posters. I'm just venting Grin

Oh yes! I bang on about this a lot, (being someone with the same name for as long as I can remember!)

AdamRyan · 04/04/2023 15:26

I do name change occasionally but not frequently and I'm pretty sure people could track me if they could be arsed, as my opinions mostly don't change

However I am concerned some posters "amplify" a particular fringe viewpoint by name changing frequently

Honestly the Internet makes me despair for humanity at the moment

DuncinToffee · 04/04/2023 15:51

It's a new MN function now that you can switch between user names so I guess it is easier to sock puppet.

Too much faffing about for me

DuncinToffee · 04/04/2023 16:16

40 new hospitals? What about 800 new ambulances

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-65056941

The number of new ambulances in England will be far less than the hundreds promised by the government, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.
In January, 800 new ambulances were announced, with a 10% fleet increase.
But vehicles being ordered by trusts are mostly replacements they were prevented from purchasing because of procurement changes and the pandemic.

If you spot it within a thread do report it, 'cos it's not on!

I didn't know that. Makes sense of a few things. I haven't name changed in over a decade - laziness really.

That thread certainly demonstrates why Braverman said what she did.
Whether there are enough people of the views expressed out there for it to be a successful political platform remains to be seen.

Fwr used to be my favourite Internet hang out but it's a cesspit atm Sad

AdamRyan · 04/04/2023 17:29

I just looked at Adil Ray's twitter and he's getting a hard time from racist twitter users. It's awful.

L1ttledrummergirl · 04/04/2023 17:36

I couldn't keep up with that thread. It was batshit crazy!

Notonthestairs · 04/04/2023 17:49

I'm struggling with Virgin media - I can't open threads I'm watching or anything new - typed the same post out 3x now. 4th time a charm...

The jist was - Not solving social care (despite Johnson claiming he would) and no extra ambulances means Winter 23 will be the same as Winter 22/21/20/19 etc - what ambulances there are queuing outside hospitals and complaints about bed blockers and recurring suggestions of introducing euthanasia. And on we go.

Well at least it's branched out into Albanian cannabis farmers

L1ttledrummergirl · 04/04/2023 19:56

@jgw1 I might just do that. I'm not commenting though, whatever you write someone will take issue.Grin

DuncinToffee · 04/04/2023 20:07

I am following Trump's indictment but might pop over to that fhread whilst waiting for the 34 felonies to be published

Sharing this article from the Institute for Government regarding social care.

"Funding changes signal an end to the government’s ambitious social care reform package

@StuartHoddinott says today's announcement is short-sighted and leaves a key manifesto pledge unfulfilled"
