The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

Do they all lie? Here is absolute proof that Braverman knew all about the Rwanda 2018 refugees being shot.

Instead of living on a yellow submarine

We could live on Boris' bus of dreams? Wink

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/04/2023 20:24

Surely that has implications for national security? How the hell does a senior MP find themselves in that state? What might they have said or done? Who might they have met with?

Sleaze is one thing, potentially having access to top secret information and not knowing your whereabouts is another.

DuncinToffee · 02/04/2023 20:35

I was thinking more potential blackmail rather than state secrets pillow talk but
urgh at being caught in a brothel.

Blossomtoes · 02/04/2023 22:05

Goodness, you lot have been busy today. I honestly don’t know where you find the patience but bravo mon amies.

Blossomtoes · 02/04/2023 22:06

Or should it be mes amies?

DuncinToffee · 02/04/2023 22:09

I am watching Children of Men, the government detaining illiegal migrants is a bit too close for comfort

Rishi Sunak’s recent run of political success looks set to collide with electoral reality next month, when the Conservatives face a possible battering in local elections across England

Getting their excuses in early.
But right to say elections will be overshadowed by Coronation/royal gossip/Megan's tights or whatever.

Well if the Home Secretary isn't bothered by national security why should a mere MP worry?

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/04/2023 23:49

@Notonthestairs this is true.

Suggestion on Twitter that a clue is in the DM headline ‘I’m a naked Tory MP stuck in a brothel - get me out of here’

Piggywaspushed · 03/04/2023 07:34

Assuming male, that narrows it down to a field of one.

I thought the most recent Tory MP to appear on that programme is an ex Tory MP or has there been another one on it?

IClaudine · 03/04/2023 07:41

Wow. He always seemed more like an overgrown sixth former rather than a sex addict. If true obvs.

Unless it was a male or mixed brothel (is there such a thing?) then...

IClaudine · 03/04/2023 07:42

Oh true, jgw.

itsgettingweird · 03/04/2023 07:51

So today I went with my friend for our usual 5am walk whilst our boys swim train.

She's a staunch Tory whereas I'm more a centric voter. She's not extreme right wing but does have some quite right wing views.

Makes for great chats. Especially when she quotes stuff and I ask where she got that information from and she usually states "The fail".

Well this morning she was all over how Brexit is to blame to Dover crisis. How anyone could think otherwise is beyond her. She said it's what we wanted with Brexit but is still of the opinion a hard brexit was the only option despite me pointing out that was a government decision not a referendum vote.

We even agreed (which I tabled as a point) that the reason we cannot get over the negative effects of Brexit is because the government cannot move on from their rhetoric they are world leading and beating at literally everything - and it's because they won't acknowledge the negative effects they aren't addressing them.

We very rarely agree on politics - however it doesn't make it any clearer where people will vote because she will vote Tory out of principle. 🤦‍♀️

Roussette · 03/04/2023 08:00

itsgettingweird She sounds like my friend (who i'm seeing later today!) and she is the same politics wise as yours.
We have known each other decades but we do (at least I do!) avoid politics because we are so far apart, it's untrue!

And the times when I actually provide rock solid proof of something, or have a no brainer of a point, she can't bear it and can't listen, she hates it! And can only say repeatedly "they're all as bad as each other!" so we get nowhere! And it gets a bit heated. I honestly think it must be really hard for through and through Tories to accept that the party has been a bit shit!
So basically that means, we don't talk about stuff in the headlines at all

The only thing she has said which is quite groundbreaking is... "I know without fail they are going to lose next GE"

itsgettingweird · 03/04/2023 09:05

Yes I get "they're all as bad as each other".

To which I respond "what's Starmer done?"

She at least has the good grace to admit nothing and accept those form the past aren't who we are voting for and also says "Labour will win anyway".

But she does listen when I say facts.

Like she says "teachers are striking because.....". I say "No, they are ..... and can only strike on these grounds". I work in education so she knows I know more and if she tries to mention state education not being too bad I can point out her ds went to independent from year 5!!!!

And the other day talking about fiscal responsibility and you can tell Sunak has a finance background (I agree it's helpful) but when I mentioned it didn't stop him forgetting to insure debt and losing £11m she at least said "oh.... I didn't realise that".

I think we manage to chat politics because we avoid point scoring - or at least she knows I have statistics up my sleeve so is careful arguing her points Grin

DuncinToffee · 03/04/2023 09:28

NEW: National Education Union vote overwhelmingly - by 98% - to reject the pay offer.

It was a £1,000 one off payment plus average 4.5% rise next year.

More strikes on 27 April and 2 May, NEU general secretaries announce.

They say the education secretary has three weeks to make an offer “ that’s fully funded, that matches other rises, that our members would accept

twitter.com/tamcohen/status/1642800114589728769?t=NW6JWIWKZy2rPqQ1Tp3BDA&s=19”.

Blossomtoes · 03/04/2023 09:46

I honestly think it must be really hard for through and through Tories to accept that the party has been a bit shit!

It is. The furthest my bloke will go is to acknowledge how damaging Johnson and Truss were. Apparently Sunak is now steadying the ship and all will be well. We don’t talk politics much because I run rings round him.

Saucery · 03/04/2023 10:51

Not surprised at that NEU percentage. NEU member colleagues have described the offer as “offensive “ and I have to agree.

IClaudine · 03/04/2023 13:05

This is funny (Dover queues).

Very good thread from Carol Vorderman

#ToriesDeletingTory

Let's start with one of the tax dodgers?
Former Tory Chairman until he was caught out lying about his tax on camera
NADHIM ZAHAWI

Seems to have gone green and non Tory on his Twitter profile.

Send me more please?

Tories now deleting any reference to Tory

My MP has gone pink and also removed any mention of the conservative party. Hmm.
