Thing is since I'm boycotting the BBC today I can't find out what is happening!

As in happening on the network

I was thinking about the 1930s Germany references earlier. It made me think about all the 'first safe country' nonsense that is constantly spouted. In the 1930s many fleeing Germany did just that and settled in safe France. And we know how that turned out for them.

France kept them safe by creating handy lists of who everyone was and what their background was.

Get thee onto twitter [popcorn]

Jonathan Pie is brilliant pointy

He regularly just nails it. And always starts off calm then gets more and more angry!

BBC Radio 5 Live has just had to replace today’s scheduled football programming with a podcast repeat…

He barely has to say a few words and can sound far more intelligent than the opposition.

pointythings · 11/03/2023 15:05

Sunday's schedule now also at risk

L1ttledrummergirl · 11/03/2023 15:08

I'm at a service station on the motorway at the moment, it's been bloody hard keeping up with everything.
Dh is having discussions with football fans on football forums and groups about it. I never thought I'd see the day!
He's team Lineker.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2023 15:10

Vanishingly few football fans who aren't tbh.

A lot of the MN derision is very very thinly veiled sneering at a working class man leaving his lane and generalised anti football sentiment.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2023 15:13

Apologies if Goodall has already been posted. Lost track.

HIGNFY producers hoping BBC don’t find out that Ian Hislop also edits a satirical magazine occasionally critical of government policy.

Loved that from Fatboy Slim.

tobee · 11/03/2023 16:32

Catching up on my news I see Ian Dennis is commentating on 5 Live football as scheduled but no explanation or comment as to wider details of this? Although I've read his statement.

Roussette · 11/03/2023 16:50

How in god's name are the BBC gonna contain this?

My only worry is he will get sacked, and everyone will go back to normal next Saturday.

Is that one of the senior BBC managers?

Notonthestairs · 11/03/2023 16:56

There isn't a way out now.

If they bring him back Dorries, John Hayes etc will whine.

If they sack him ITV will swoop and probably pick up a few other defectors.

Lineker is an extremely skilled presenter. I'm not pretending he's irreplaceable just very good and it won't be easy to slot in a replacement - particularly if there is an alternative programme available featuring the usual team.

And in amongst it all they've revealed quite how terrified the BBC really is of the Government and their impartiality shield (such as it was) is shredded in the process.

That guy in the photo is like a walking parody.

tobee · 11/03/2023 17:01

"And in amongst it all they've revealed quite how terrified the BBC really is of the Government and their impartiality shield (such as it was) is shredded in the process."

I feel like it's gone beyond that now. I feel they're no longer terrified because the BBC now is the government.

itsgettingweird · 11/03/2023 17:07

And in amongst it all they've revealed quite how terrified the BBC really is of the Government and their impartiality shield (such as it was) is shredded in the process.

Absolutely.

This whole shit show has revealed far more about the government and the BBc than it has an ex footballers opinion.

Roussette · 11/03/2023 17:13

It was getting very frayed round the edges with the likes of Fiona Bruce as chair of QT. And the BBC's very dubious selection of repeat guests like Farage and others.
