Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

We're having a gentle flurry of snow at the moment, just as my daughter is walking to school. Hopefully, it won't distract her and make her late...

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/03/2023 08:40

A good few cm of snow over night here in London. However the temperature has risen a little, so it is now sleeting and all the snow is turning to grubby slush.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/03/2023 08:51

Bright and sunny, but the birdbath is frozen solid.

angelico53 · 08/03/2023 08:51

Well, angelico, I also hope you're not reincarnated as a slug ... have you done anything to warrant that?

Man, I hope not. But the gods can be capricious and who klnows who I've offended? Angelica thinks not - she thinks it'll be a lavatory brush. :(

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 08/03/2023 09:07

Yesterday's hill snow has gone, so now it's a waiting game.

Britinme · 08/03/2023 09:41

This is weird. I've posted on this thread a few times and I've checked that it's showing (on the header) as a thread I'm watching, but on my phone when I look at the "I'm on" and"I'm watching" lists, it isn't showing up. I have to keep going back to Kuc's link on the previous thread to find it.

MrsBertBibby · 08/03/2023 09:42

The cats are taking it in turns to sit by the flap and glower at me for making it snow. It's melting fast here.

bignosebignose · 08/03/2023 10:08

It didn't feel all that cold here this morning yet I found myself scraping ice off the inside of my windscreen as well as the outside.

MavisMcMinty · 08/03/2023 10:09

This was me on the last Exiles thread 24 hours ago:

I looked up Devon on the weather news, and got told there was 0% chance of snow here, which upset me. I’d’ve coped much better with a “2% risk of snow”, it would effectively be the same as 0% but without the hope-dashing.

And it snowed anyway last night! 0% risk my fucking arse.

angelico53 · 08/03/2023 10:18

hahahahaha, mavis!

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2023 10:20

It's getting sunny and melting here, too. There's a slight breeze, which is very cold and Northerly.

I'd be fed up if I was stupid enough to lie on a cold, tile floor.

And it'd be ALL YOUR FAULT

MrsBertBibby · 08/03/2023 10:24

Underfloor heating baby!

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2023 10:25

Well, it's hard and uncomfortable, damn you!

artant · 08/03/2023 10:25

Just a very light dusting of snow here in North London. At one point in the night it was snowing quite impressively but I guess that didn’t last long or there’d have been a proper covering.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/03/2023 10:45

@Tricyrtis2022 It is for me. Pollen season starts in February, when the hazel catkins open. It never used to be like this and only started in recent years. It's yer age, love

I have allergic rhinitis all year round but my allergies are most horrific in February and March, and have been for the last few years. I’m currently a constantly sneezing mess to the point I sneeze blood. I can’t breathe in without the sensation of a sneeze coming on and my nose is perpetually streaming. I have Dymista spray which is a steroid and antihistamine combo, but I can’t use it every day anymore as it makes the nosebleeds worse. I also take fexofenadine but it doesn’t seem to touch it.

To make things worse, I had a gastroscopy under sedation last summer and had to have a nasal cannula for oxygen which I reacted badly to. I woke up a streaming snot covered mess and I’ve never been the same since. The allergic rhinitis ramped up but worse than that, I also developed constant catarrh and post-nasal drip which often makes it difficult to swallow. I’ve tried every spray and antihistamine under the sun but nothing helps. I’ve been in tears over it many times, sitting up awake at night and unable to swallow properly. Was supposed to be seeing ENT but no idea if my referral went through or not. I’ve had to blow my nose four times just in the time it’s taken me to write this post Sad

Anyway, have gone off on a bit of a tangent but was intrigued by the blackthorn and hazel catkins. There’s some blackthorns near me so perhaps that’s one of my triggers this time of year.

Kucinghitam · 08/03/2023 10:58

Oh @CyanCrystalViolet poor you! That sounds terrible. I hope you do get to see an ENT soon.

MavisMcMinty · 08/03/2023 11:01

I once fell into the river on a dog walk, and as I toppled off the bank in slow-mo, reached out and grabbed a bit of blackthorn to save me. It didn’t save me, but it did put several deep and painful holes in my hand, exacerbated by my then-lodger telling me how poisonous blackthorn is and how I should go to A&E (the nearest ones are 23 and 30 miles away) to save my poor hand from amputation.

That is my blackthorn story.

Britinme · 08/03/2023 11:05

@CyanCrystalViolet - oh you poor thing! That sounds awful. I hope the ENT consultant can find something that helps you.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/03/2023 11:07

The ENT referral was actually for something else and am just hoping they’ll also talk to me about this issue as well. I’ve been to the gp once about it and they gave me a new spray but it didn’t help. I feel bad going back about it because I’m not sure what they could do other than refer me to ENT, and although it’s absolutely miserable it doesn’t feel like a priority for the NHS right now.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/03/2023 11:08

@CyanCrystalViolet, my issues are tiny compared to yours, that sounds like a nightmare. I hope you get to see an ENT bod soon.

You no doubt will have tried them already, but do sinus rinses help at all?

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/03/2023 11:09

it doesn’t feel like a priority for the NHS right now.

That may be so, but it's a priority for you.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/03/2023 11:10

You no doubt will have tried them already, but do sinus rinses help at all?

They give me some relief immediately after the rinse but within 5 minutes it all starts again. I had to stop using them as the bottle melted in the microwave.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/03/2023 11:11

That's so crap, I'm sorry to hear it!
