Help me find this food from late 1960’s/1970’s!

Having a conversation with family tonight about childhood foods, I remember a ‘honey type sandwich spread’ in a fairly flat round tub, bit like a set honey, obviously cheaper, bulked out with god knows what! White tub, maybe a bear 🐻 on the lid… distinct memories of it being really sweet & sugary texture on bread & butter for our tea. No one else remembers it! Am I imagining it?

My mum often talks about something called 'Sunny Spread' which would have been in the 50s.

StaceySolomonSwash · 23/02/2023 20:18

I do remember it but I can't think what it was called! We had it on buttered crumpets Sunday tea time. Really lovely.

Katrinawaves · 23/02/2023 20:20

I remember this too. I think it may have had a red lid?

I remember it as quite granular, yes. 😊

Willowtre1 · 23/02/2023 20:23

It's so familiar to me, the sugary gritty texture. But I'm an 80s child so maybe something else!

I remember a cinnamon spread. Pretty sure there were no natural ingredients…..

We used to have butter and sugar on toast

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/02/2023 20:25

I remember that. I thought it was honey. Duped by my grandma...

It was the 60s/70s 😂
we had playground equipment that could maim you for life and ate food that could scare a dietitian to death!

Chatterboxy · 23/02/2023 20:27

Vague memories of it being called something like ‘Honey Bear Spread’? Maybe that’s where I’m getting the bear reference from?

It definitely had that set honey appearance!

I vaguely remember something that was rather gritty.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/02/2023 20:34

It was Honey Bear honey spread. I can't find a picture of it on the www, but you have described it perfectly OP.

BarrelOfOtters · 23/02/2023 20:34

That’s just come back to me…cheap honey spread. The first time I had real honey I realised I actually liked honey.

feliciabirthgiver · 23/02/2023 20:36

Oh my god, I wasn’t imagining it! 😱
I can’t find a picture either, which is why I can’t prove it existed….

still not being believed by family family though! 🤦‍♀️

We were poor, cheap white bread and blue band margerine!

Chatterboxy · 23/02/2023 20:38

feliciabirthgiver · 23/02/2023 20:36

Is this it?

No, it was a flat tub similar to this pic, but flatter.
