Help me find this food from late 1960’s/1970’s!

Having a conversation with family tonight about childhood foods, I remember a ‘honey type sandwich spread’ in a fairly flat round tub, bit like a set honey, obviously cheaper, bulked out with god knows what! White tub, maybe a bear 🐻 on the lid… distinct memories of it being really sweet & sugary texture on bread & butter for our tea. No one else remembers it! Am I imagining it?

@ToffeeNotCoffee I remember Kraft used to do a jar of cheese spread, I used to love it. The spread was the colour of Red Leicester-ish and I remember the jar having a red lid. Do you think we're talking about the same product?

ToffeeNotCoffee · 28/02/2023 14:41

Yes I do.

Maybe I thought it was Sun Pat but it was Kraft.

It was nice. Primula cheese was nice too.

Yes!

@SoupDragon
It was definitely Honey Bear Spread. Same/similar pattern in the lid as the lid on the ceramic jar, but a shallow plastic tub like the Vitalite tub.

It was called honey bear spread in a white round tub like margarine tubs used to be. I think it had little pink and orange teddy bears around the tub. No idea who made it but it was delicious on bread🙂

Oh my goodness, that’s it!!!
A staple teatime item on white bread as a kid.
I knew I hadn’t imagined it! 😅
Thank you 🥰

I'm sure that was the one I remember from back in the day too , this would've been early/mid 1970s .
DH has no recollection, maybe it was only in some areas ?

I’m in South East of the country, my mum shopped in the local supermarkets, ie: Co-op mostly, but we also had Keymarketin our town, so she had to get it from either of those! 😊

We were in Leicester , either the local corner shop or Moneysave supermarket

Ah yes, that’s the one I remember too. Weird how the recognition and memories hit you - I’m back in my grandma’s pantry.

I was in Manchester - I expect it came from Spar or the Mace grocery.
