Help me find this food from late 1960’s/1970’s!

Having a conversation with family tonight about childhood foods, I remember a ‘honey type sandwich spread’ in a fairly flat round tub, bit like a set honey, obviously cheaper, bulked out with god knows what! White tub, maybe a bear 🐻 on the lid… distinct memories of it being really sweet & sugary texture on bread & butter for our tea. No one else remembers it! Am I imagining it?

This sounds similar to your description but the packaging is glass.

To echo PPs, it was definitely Honey Bear spread. My sister's favourite thing to have on toast.

Mumteedum · 23/02/2023 21:19

I remember the name sunny spread. What was that then? 🧐

JasmineTeacup · 23/02/2023 21:19

And, yes, in a round plastic tub like a margarine tub.

TellingBone · 23/02/2023 21:27

No bear though

I remember this too! I’m pretty sure we thought it was set honey but yes to slightly gritty texture and a bear..maybe blue and white packaging? Blast from the past OP!

SoupDragon · 23/02/2023 21:38

It is odd that there's no Internet evidence of it though. We can't all be misremembering.

SoupDragon · 23/02/2023 21:40

I would have accepted it being 1970s packaging of the Bear Brand Breakfast Spread linked to as that could easily have morphed to "honey bear spread" as a name for it. We definitely called it that but it might not have been its proper name I guess. However, there's no 1970s plastic tub pictures - not as attractive as the glass jars I suppose 😂

EVHead · 23/02/2023 21:41

My best friend’s family always had this! Such a treat being invited for tea at their house! We never had honey - too expensive.

No it was a shallow, wide plastic tub.

We used to have a chocolate spread in the same kind of tub. It was dark and glossy, not at all like Nutella.

I definitely remember this! Very dark and a bit runny

Sadcat22 · 23/02/2023 21:51

Could it be golden bar honey butter?

Ahnobother · 23/02/2023 21:51

Was it Clover Crest? Canadian honey in a white tub with either a white or red lid and blue writing.
We had that in the 80s in our house. It was gritty, pale and spreadable

I loved that stuff!
It was the same size, for some reason I have a picture of a wine the pooh type bear on the tub in my head... I loved that too.

Clarabellawilliamson · 23/02/2023 21:59

Does anyone else remember pear and apple spread? Looked like marmite but sweet. It might have just been a hippy health food thing though!

Google tells me you can still get it!

DontMakeMeShushYou · 23/02/2023 22:04

I definitely remember it, although I don't remember it being called Honey Bear spread.

But yes, it came in a flat round plastic tub I think.

paintyhands · 23/02/2023 22:06

I definitely remember this, but it’s also a vague memory and I think I was very young so it would have been late 70s / early 80s. I remember it as having bears all around the side of the shallow plastic tub.

I'm thinking little bears round the edge of the circular lid. Maybe round the edge of the tub though.

Chatterboxy · 23/02/2023 22:16

Well, I’ve been down a complete worm hole tonight, still can’t find it, but reassuring that others remember it too, like another poster said, it’s weird there’s nothing on the www though. 🤔

I remember chocolate spread in 1970's. Came in a shallow white tub. It was the forerunner to chocolate spreads to come.

Anyone remember Nutella in a glass ? Did anyone else keep the glasses like we did ?

I remember Vitalite spread. I remember the advert, set to the tune of Desmond Dekker's Israelites.
