What state do you leave your house in when you go to work?

Breakfast dishes in the sink? Dirty PJs on the floor? Do you make your bed? Are your kids’ beds made?

I find that I struggle to leave any washing up, clothes etc around. I hate coming home and having to tidy up.

Spotless I can't live any other way.

custardbear · 16/02/2023 19:05

Hopefully the dishes are in the dishwasher, beds straightened sometimes, floordrobe not too bad ... but cats and dog fed, humans fed, everyone had their hugs and kisses, that's more important ... housework can wait

Bookaholic73 · 16/02/2023 19:05

I hate coming home to a dirty messy kitchen specifically. So before I go to work, I load the dishwasher and wipe down the counters and hoover.

Nimbostratus100 · 16/02/2023 19:06

Breakfast dishes in the dishwasher, unless it needs emptying, Then they get left on the side. I rarely make the bed although DH does if he gets up last. Err, PJs usually chucked on the bed or in the washing basket.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 16/02/2023 19:08

Breakfast pots in the sink definitely, I do wipe down the worktops and generally tidy kitchen. I try to make sure that the living room is tidy for the burglars 😂 I chuck dirty clothes in the wash basket and any left out PJ's in bedrooms but that's about it. Everybody is usually home before me so dh has the washing up done usually.

DelurkingAJ · 16/02/2023 19:08

Depends. I aim to do one job before I leave and if that’s empty and reload the dishwasher then that gets done, if it’s hang out a load of washing then the dishwasher might not get loaded. Not a big deal. More important that everyone is fed and has all the stuff they need for school and work…never gets left that long.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 16/02/2023 19:09

Oh and beds are not made no

itsgettingweird · 16/02/2023 19:09

Whatever state it's in!

I don't specifically set out to do tasks but I do what needs doing in the time I have to do it - if I have time.

Life's too short

pasta4me · 16/02/2023 19:09

All the dishes in the dishwasher.
Beds made.
Bathroom towels hung up- we're working on this....
Generally tidy. I hate coming in to mess.

Northernsouloldies · 16/02/2023 19:10

Tidy for the burglars. 😁

CMOTDibbler · 16/02/2023 19:10

However it ends up. I never make the bed anyway. Dishwasher is unlikely to be on, maybe a load of washing but who knows

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/02/2023 19:11

Bed made, dishes in dishwasher, tidy. I don't wear anything in bed, so nothing to do there 😁

I love coming home to a tidy house!

TheChosenTwo · 16/02/2023 19:12

I leave it as I want to come home to it. So tidy. Bed made (can’t speak for anyone else in the house as I’m often gone before everyone else!) and then kitchen is clear, sides cleaned but then that’s all done the night before. I don’t eat breakfast but I will make ds a packed lunch for the day in the morning and will clean up after that.
Generally though our house is kept pretty tidy, clothes aren’t on the floor - they are either being worn, put away or in a wash basket!

sendbackaletterfromamerica · 16/02/2023 19:12

I make the beds, straighten everything out and leave the kitchen tidy. My kids are bigger now though. I remember the days of throwing their toys behind the sofa = tidying up!

bloodywhitecat · 16/02/2023 19:12

I used to leave it tidy, I hated coming home to a messy house so would rather get up slightly earlier to make sure this little jobs were done before I left home.

mamaduckbone · 16/02/2023 19:13

Generally I make the bed and Dh empties the dishwasher. I leave first so have limited control what happens after that!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/02/2023 19:14

My husband and I both leave the house before the kids do so it’s a good day if the breakfast dishes are next to the dishwasher…

Melbourne12 · 16/02/2023 19:15

I was I was as chilled as some of you. Way back before I was married with a child, I slept in one morning and left my towel on the floor, hairdryer out etc. It played on my mind that day until I got home and sorted it out. 😐

Erm.... Blush

I usually don't eat breakfast and leave before the kids get up, so there's not much to do.

DH does breakfast with them and takes to school, he doesn't clear up before going out. But he WFH so can put dishes on the dishwasher after the school run. If I'm lucky...

SkankingWombat · 16/02/2023 19:17

Time is limited and priority is given to getting a wash into the machine or hanging out newly washed clothes rather than wiping down sides. Of your list, our bed is made, I don't wear PJs, and breakfast stuff is left neatly stacked by the sink. DH is in charge of the washing up/dishwasher, and is very rigid about how to load it so it's best not to get involved! Neither DC makes their bed but one will put PJs on her pillow (the other is proving untrainable at this despite being older!).

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 16/02/2023 19:17

In such a state that incoming burglars wouldn't bother as they would think wr'd already been turned over. It's a lifestyle security choice.

PritiPatelsMaker · 16/02/2023 19:18

Well I empty the dishwasher and relax with my breakfast dishes and have a quick tidy, usually the mess that's been made after I've gone to bed. I have teens though so I think that's pretty normal.

I'm the first one to leave though so I leave it tidy but it rarely is when I get home...

Hopeforrainbows · 16/02/2023 19:18

Ummmm ….

I don’t tidy up every day as it’s endless.

I might roughly throw the bed duvets back on and kick the floordrobe to one pile in the corner.

kitchen may still have last nights pots there if the dishwasher was full.

lounge I do nothing too as i don’t go in there… so the cushions are likely to be on the floor from the girls.

so in short I focus on getting us all out the house dressed and fed and calm and worry about the other stuff in a mad panic if someone is coming over!!!! 😂

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 16/02/2023 19:19

*we'd - but we leave unnecessary rs lying around.
