What state do you leave your house in when you go to work?

Breakfast dishes in the sink? Dirty PJs on the floor? Do you make your bed? Are your kids’ beds made?

I find that I struggle to leave any washing up, clothes etc around. I hate coming home and having to tidy up.

I leave it as it is. Could care less. Will tidy up when I get home. Too high pressure a job to care what my house looks like.
The only thing I proactively do is to ensure duvets are pulled back. People sweat in beds all night. Cannot understand why people make them in morning. Ensure pillows/mattress etc are exposed to air/breeze from window.
No-one is in my house during the day so who cares if it’s tidy or not.

I call straightening the pillows, shaking out duvet then folding it back halfway, 'making' the bed, as it's neat.

PetitPorpoise · 16/02/2023 20:15

Our bed is made but the kids- I just fold the duvet in half and lie it on top.

Open the windows.

If bedrooms are otherwise a mess, they stay a mess.

Empty dishwasher while my kids eat at snail's pace and then chuck the plates in as they get dressed.

PJs usually end up on the sofa or thrown in front of the washing machine.
.
Try to set a load of washing off.

I do most of the general tidying in the evenings but it's superficial at best. It never looks finished so I just feel like what's the fucking point going the extra mile?

Okunevo · 16/02/2023 20:16

My cats like the duvet shaken out then folded back so it's nice and pillowy to sleep on.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 16/02/2023 20:18

My absolute gem of a FIL takes my kids to school after I leave for work so he washes up and cleans the kitchen for me, it’s literally become part of his morning routine in our house. I’ll try and get a wash on and one out before I go and run the Hoover round downstairs but I’m not always successful. I have to leave the house at 7am and we currently have a new puppy so I’m doing all I can to make sure she’s fed and watered and ready for the day.

Gremlins101 · 16/02/2023 20:21

Straighten the bed covers ALWAYS. Turn on dishwasher (stacked before bed). Mine are baby and toddler and I really struggle to get more done than that the days I'm working.

Whyisitsososohard · 16/02/2023 20:23

I'm sure for a lot of people it's not a choice to leave it messy but a matter of time.

LindorDoubleChoc · 16/02/2023 20:28

I'm not a morning person so all I achieve is cup of tea, bathroom, shower, moisturiser, perfume, dress, brush hair and leave. Any dirty clothes went in the laundry basket the night before.

I don't eat breakfast, I don't wear make up, I don't even have children to get ready for school, I don't make the bed or do any sort of washing up other than putting my tea mug in the dishwasher.

I get up 7.45 and leave the house 8.45. Lucky me!

Italiandreams · 16/02/2023 20:28

I wish! Getting myself and two small children dressed, washed, fed and dropped off in two places plus me at work as close to eight as possible feels enormous enough as it is! If we all have what we need, in the right location I generally feel like I’m winning at life! House is regularly left in a state!

PandasAreUseless · 16/02/2023 20:29

Major caveat that I don't have kids...

I leave the house immaculate. Clean, tidy, washing up done. I throw the Shark around the kitchen, unload the dishwasher, make the bed and bleach all 3 toilets.

kitcat15 · 16/02/2023 20:29

Fairly tidy and clean….. nothing a 15 minute runaround wouldn’t sort

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 16/02/2023 20:30

Blue polo shirt from previous employer
Green leggings
Pink crocs .. cleaner uniform
Bed unmade .. so what! I just pull up the duvet no biggie 🤪
I finish at 3.30pm so the dishes can wait .
Kitchen tidy by 5.30pm
Saturday 5 loads of washing 30 min cycle and majority dried by evening

MargaretThursday · 16/02/2023 20:33

I roll out of bed, make sure ds is up, and feed the budgies and then we go.
I leave dh to get up later and sort things. he occasionally does so

MWNA · 16/02/2023 20:36

Very tidy. Spotless really.
Laundry done and folded in basket to put away after work.
House vacuumed
Washing up done and put away.
Sides wiped.
Toys tidied.
Sofa cushions straightened.
Beds made.
I'd hate to come home to mess.

SundayNightDrama · 16/02/2023 20:44

The downstairs is usually fairly tidy. Sometimes we leave dishes in the sink. DH works from home so he’s designated washer-upper Wink.

Upstairs can be a bit of a mess. Me or DH make our bed, but I often leave clothes, toiletries etc lying around as I’m a bit of a chaotic morning person. Teens are messy buggers - don’t even bother looking to see what state they’re leaving their rooms in!

I don’t feel the need to have an immaculate house, though, so a bit of mess doesn’t stress me out,

Italiandreams · 16/02/2023 20:55

I’m in awe at some of you! No idea how you manage!

millionsofproducts · 16/02/2023 20:58

Tippy, but I don't worry about it and don't sort it out when I get home either, because there are greater calls on my time. I make my bed just before I get in it. Never mind 15 minutes - it would take me about 15 years to sort my house out.

DidyouNO · 16/02/2023 20:59

I'm a foster carer and a childminder so my home is my work. We keep all rooms clean and tidy. Children make their beds, help with dishwasher etc before school then I'm set for the day and it's just the kitchen and playroom that get in a state again 😂

CatOnTheChair · 16/02/2023 21:01

When I leave the house, the dishwasher is full of clean plates, and breakfast and packed lunch debris is everywhere.
When I come home, the surfaces are clear and the cupboards full of clean stuff.
I have 2 amazing kids!

Beds a supposed to air, so never make those!

olympicsrock · 16/02/2023 21:02

We do whatever is possible but the priority is getting g everyone to work / school dressed and fed with all kit on time. Spellings done etc is the priority not tidiness

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 16/02/2023 21:04

Beds made
Dishwasher emptied (put it on the prior eve) and refilled with breakfast dishes
Sides wiped down
I wash clothes on an early timer so hang laundry out
Bathroom wiped down / loo cleaned briefly
Towels hung to dry on heated rail
Sofa cushions will have been plumped before bed the previous night
Curtains opened and straightened
Bins emptied if needed
Kitchen floor swept

LBFseBrom · 16/02/2023 21:07

I'm retired but when I was working I always rushed out of the house leaving some mess. Now I have no excuse but it is still quite messy -).

Slimjimtobe · 16/02/2023 21:10

I am not great on the morning but I’m home fairly early most days and my house is usually immaculate

but in the morning I would leave the dishes soaking in the basin and most likely put a wash on and might have something in the slow cooker - so I’m not too bad

WonderingWanda · 16/02/2023 21:16

I honestly couldn't tell you. Work days are so manic trying to get everyone out of the house at the right time with all the right bags, books, shoes, coats etc. If there are breakfast dishes on the side I'm usually just grateful they've actually had time to eat something! I'm just rushing to get to work on time.

MyMachineAndMe · 16/02/2023 21:34

I usually leave much before the dc. They wash (I use this term as loosely as possible) their breakfast pots before getting ready for and going to school. Dh does the rest because he stays home.

U1sce · 16/02/2023 21:35

I make the bed every morning, but after that, dishes will only get put away if the dishwasher has been emptied (one of the dc jobs so not always done) otherwise they get left on the side. There's never much mess to come home to though, it takes a few minutes when we come in. I have more time to sort stuff when I come in rather than as Im heading out
