Just took my neighbour to local Asda for a monthly big food shop...wow...she spent about 35% more on the same items compared to last month as she keeps the receipts....some examples of the increases:
sugar up 40p
coffee up 50p
burgers up 47p
crisps up 38p
lentils up 34p

I have noticed that Asda and Lidl seem to be the worst offenders by chucking an extra 40 or 50p onto an item....not even a slow gradual increase...it's bonkers..luckily we are vegan so our bill is lower

The cost of food is up in all supermarkets, not just Asda.

mumyes · 08/02/2023 22:02

Just so sad...so many people will be screwed by this.

This. ^ Why pick on Asda? Confused Mind you, it makes a change I guess. People usually start threads berating Aldi!!!

This. Have you not seen any of the news articles about inflation, especially on the increased cost of food.

pictoosh · 08/02/2023 22:04

Yes. The cost of food has rocketed. Did you not know?

ssd · 08/02/2023 22:05

I was only posting a few weeks ago about my medium chicken costing £6.67 in asda

Crazy

Yes am aware of course but am shocked at the big jumps...not 10 p...and as we are mostly vegan and bulk buy pulses and rice etc every few months....just shocked at the cost of other non vegan items which neighbour buys !!

Coca cola has gone from £9 to £14 in Asda!

Cas112 · 08/02/2023 22:18

There is a cost of living crisis.. this will be pretty much all supermarkets and if it isn't showing in some just yet it will in the next few months

SO224350 · 08/02/2023 22:21

You must know prices have gone up in all shops? Though you managed to tell some people you're a vegan so worth posting 😀

CornishGem1975 · 08/02/2023 22:26

I did an online comparison the other day with the items I regularly buy and Asda was more expensive than Sainsburys.

merrymelodies · 08/02/2023 22:30

Rising food costs are global.

AngelinaFibres · 08/02/2023 22:36

Are you vegan Op. Honestly can't tell, you barely mentioned it

DogSaysWoof · 08/02/2023 22:40

Everything is up.

Food inflation is 16%

Some of those prices seem much higher than that.

It would be interesting to see how much more people are spending compared to last year (assuming they bought the same items)

Some people will be experiencing inflation much higher than 16%

DialsMavis · 08/02/2023 22:46

I had to leave Co-op without (vegan) pesto tonight, it was £4.75. I know Co-op is expensive, but that felt extreme. I had to shell out over £3.50 for marmite in there though as it is an essential item.

Maybe Vegan TV doesn't mention it.

LorW · 08/02/2023 22:50

I’ve just done my Asda online food shop and it is £6 more expensive than last week for the same exact items and none of the items I got last week were on offer so literally just price increases 😬 every week it goes up a few quid at least. I budget best I can and found shopping around doesn’t really help as everyone is increasing their prices anyways.

Mossstitch · 08/02/2023 22:50

I agree re asda, go regularly as only couple of minutes away so I walk to do most of my shopping. This week my coffee pods went from £2 to £2.60 and a sauce my son has regularly which a few months ago was £1 was £2.75😦 that's way more than inflation, someone is profiteering! I did wonder if they are trying to recoup what they are giving away on their new app, although I haven't got it as phone too old but I believe it takes 10% off🤷

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 08/02/2023 22:51

Let me guess you also moaned at the cashier about the prices and told them you where vegan 🙄

Blinky21 · 08/02/2023 22:55

Blame the Tories, not ASDA
