What do you think of this amount of alcohol?

Two bottles of 11% wine every Sunday night. Starting at around 5pm, finishing around midnight. Total of 16 units. No alcohol consumed throughout the rest of the week.

I wouldn't get worked up about it but I suspect I will be one of the few on here that feels that way!

Orland0 · 08/02/2023 19:57

Binge drinking.

Hohofortherobbers · 08/02/2023 19:58

I think over 7 units in one go is a binge isn't it? So it's too much.

Shortpoet · 08/02/2023 19:58

We’ll guíseles are no more that 8 units in a single fitting for a man, and no more than 6 for a woman, so either way it is a lot regardless of none during the week.

Do you have Monday off work? I wouldn’t be able to stand up after drinking that?

WimpoleHat · 08/02/2023 19:59

For one person? That’s a lot. You’d be better spreading it out over the week as a glass a night….

FT123456 · 08/02/2023 19:59

I wouldn't say that's to bad considering no alcohol is consumed through the week...

nurseynursery · 08/02/2023 19:59

It is a lot, to me it seems better if it's a night out and socialising, would bother me more if it's a night in alone (no idea why).

Shortpoet · 08/02/2023 19:59

Guidelines
Don’t know what guíseles are!

Don't work / drive on a Monday

I’d be fucked and face down! My liver would be in shock until Thursday. I think it’s a bender and I can’t believe it won’t have some impact on life.

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/02/2023 20:01

Is this somebody who’s downing two bottles of wine to get blind drunk because they hate the thought of going back to work the following day? Or do they work a non traditional week and is Sunday is the first day of their “weekend” and they’re relaxing into it?

Does it change their personality negatively? Do they get drunk? Does it cause problems with relationships or work? Or are they cheerful?

Behaviours around drinking and why somebody drinks are just as important (if not more so) than the amount they drink.

Technically by NHS guidelines it’s binge drinking, but I can’t say, in the absence of any negative features accompanying it, that it would overly concern me.

jackstini · 08/02/2023 20:04

Not great all in one go but it's a hell of a lot less than DH or I drink in a week so no judgement here

Does something very stressful happen on a Sunday?
Is it the only day they can drink as they are driving/responsible all other times?

gawditswindy · 08/02/2023 20:05

As ever, context is key.

OoohISay123 · 08/02/2023 20:14

It IS mainly by myself but not because I'm depressed or dreading work on Tuesday. I just genuinely love my own company and enjoy winding down with it whilst listening to music or watching something on Netflix or sitting on my porch if the weather is nice. It's my way of taking the edge off if you like, after a week of socialising and working all week. I don't start crying over my ex or anything. Sometimes friends do join me but not always. I prefer it when they don't to be honest!

I've been in this routine for a long time. For full context I have been depressed before and used to drink a LOT more but now I just happily enjoy it and once it's over the only thing I want the following day is a bacon sandwich and a walk with the dog. I don't even think about having a drink any other time during the week.

I would take it down to a bottle.

I agree. Pace it out with some water or soft drinks. You might find you appreciate the wine more if you drink less.

FallonofDynasty · 08/02/2023 20:35

I would feel dreadful after that much booze, so it wouldn't be at all worth it for me. Do you not feel dreadful the next day?
I drink around 6 days a week, but only about 2 units most nights

JetPlanesMeetingInTheAir2BRefuelled · 08/02/2023 20:36

It's a lot and sounds like it's pretty much just a habit at this point. Does the drinker even enjoy it?

Plus it's about a day's worth of calories

Nope. Sometimes a bit fuzzy but fine by noon and as I say I used to drink a shit ton more. I'm 39.

I'm with you. Not something I'd worry about.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/02/2023 20:42

I do this on a Friday night ebety couple of weeks.Im healthy and eat healthily and exercise but I do like my wine Blush
For me it's a binge which isn't good but it is what it is.I enjoy it.

shinynewapple22 · 08/02/2023 20:42

Entirely up to the drinker but I would rather spread my units out over the week. Also prefer to drink with others as a social thing .

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/02/2023 20:43

*every

Growlybear83 · 08/02/2023 20:44

That wouldn't worry me at all. If it was two bottles every night, I would be concerned.

JimDixon · 08/02/2023 21:00

11% is a low alcohol content for wine. It’s quite common to see 14%-15% these days. I think 12-13% is the sweet spot.
